177 I Can't Wai
"Jiaaaaaaaa, where's you brain! "
She covered her face with both of her hands and squealed into it at the top of her lungs. How could she ever face him? Even if he was clueless of the reason why she was crying, who could ever tell her transparency in his eyes? How could she ever overcome from shame if he would speculate that the reason of her miseries was him and her forbidden jealousy?
Thanks to her dumbness! She wouldn't have the nerve to face him anymore in their breakfast later and in the rest of their activities.
She stood up and began walking by the shoreline. But everytime her thoughts overwhelmed him, she would wriggle and run. If only
she would count how many times she walked around the resort's premises, she would know that the distance she covered would already be from where she was up to their homeplace!
Damn it Jia! How could you be so absent - minded? You're digging your own grave of guilt and shame....
By the time she ended at the pool, she was already panting and exhausted. Yet, those forceful ways of releasing her energy were her most effective ways of venting out. She settled into a chaise lounge and closed her eyes to relax, trying to empty out her mind from undesirable thoughts.
Looking into the pool later, she lost her excitement to dip into the water but she remembered that her eyes may had been puffing out already. The beckoning waters will be its therapy. She slowly stood up to take a shower and then returned to the pool with her boyleg tankini.
She then treaded and lied on the water with her back, kicking gently and slowly to maintain her bouyancy. With eyes closed, she felt the coldness of the water as it gently soaked her whole body. The chilling sensation it brought was a buffer to her blazing disgust towards her own self.
As she opened her eyes later, she saw a figure of a man standing by the pool staircase. Blurred by the splash of water droplets in her eyes, she brushed it away and realized that it was Anthon. Right then, the calm emotion that had just settled within her, flared again into a mess. She closed her eyes again trying to ignore him, pretending that she did not notice his presence.
"Jia, you already have twenty missed calls. It might be urgent." Anthon called out, as he went over to the corner of the pool closer to her.
Twenty missed calls? She remembered that she left her phone in the chaise lounge together with her clothes. And for him to know about the calls would likely be because he had been in that seat. How long had he been watching her?
She glanced at him without a word, then turned into a prone position as she propelled herself gracefully towards the ladder through a front crawl.
Picking her phone up once she was back at the chaise lounge, she saw indeed that she got twenty calls from Koko. She gave him back a ring and the call was picked up instantly.
"Ko, I'm sorry for missing your
calls. " She said as she looked around to make sure that she was not being heard.
Anthon was no longer on the spot where he stood. Perhaps, he already went ahead with his morning jog. So,
she turned the speaker on as she was still dripping. Then, she sat into the lounge and leaned on the backrest as she put on again her shirt and pants over her tankini.
"Anna, where are you? You're killing me with worries. What is it? " Koko asked worriedly through the other line.
"Ko, I can't talk about it yet. Can we just talk personally, please? "
"What is it all about? It was still four in the morning when you sent me a message. Were you not able to sleep? " Koko tried to initiate the conversation for her to talk out.
"I'm dying to talk to you alone but I can't as of now. Ko, promise me that after our talk, you won't condemn me. " Jia said desperately.
"And are you sure that it can wait? " Koko 's voice sounded so worried.
"Yes, it can wait. " She replied briefly as a lump began to form in her throat.
She then ended the call and hurried to get away.
"But I can't wait! " Anthon's voice rang into her ears.
She glanced back and there was Anthon towering over her. Her heart went drumming crazily again but she tried hard to conceal it and acted as if nothing happened.
"Hi, ton! " She smiled sweetly as she paused for a while, ignoring what he said.
'How's Giselle? " She added, trying to look worried.
Anthon did not answer. He looked straight into her eyes and his gaze harbored a sense of danger.
"Don't change the topic." He said imperatively.
Suddenly, she did not know what to say. She was still overwhelmed by her shame and was not prepared yet in this confrontation.
After a moment of silence, she finally found her words. "Please excuse me, Ton. Jianna... "
To her relief, Anthon did not insist. She swiftly fled from his sight and went back to their room.
Later in their breakfast which was again set up outside at around seven, everyone had already gathered around except Anthon and Giselle.
"I am really hopeful that these two would end up together with each other. " Casey smiled confidently.
"Would our Anthon care that she is somewhat a mistress and the ex - girlfriend of his brother? " Mr. Wayne spoke out his doubts.
"Dad, it really doesn't matter if he would learn to love and accept her as she is. And besides, they are already close friends since high school." Jim wanted to remind him of their own tragic experience just because of his disapproval and non - acceptance.
As they were exchanging opinions about Giselle's personal background, Anthon and Giselle appeared at a distance. Giselle was holding on to Anthon's shoulder while Anthon was wrapping his arm around her waist.
