153 She's Going Out!
Anthon was shaking when he lifted Jia up into his arms. Though he never heard a sound from her, his heart broke to see her grimaced in so much pain.
Anthon had just placed her in the seat next to him when Jia squirmed in a concealed fear.
"Ton, I'm afraid we can't make it to the hospital. Just take me to the maternity clinic on the next block. My bag of water has ruptured already. Sorry for the mess. " She looked at the bloody water stain on the covers.
"Jia, hold on. Don't scare me. Why did you let Jim go when you're already expecting your delivery?
How he wished he could fly his car to skip the traffic jam. Jia was already crying silently. He watched her toss up every now and rubbing her lower back. Everytime they were caught up in an obstruction, he would help her rub her back.
This must be exactly how scared Jim was when she gave birth to Jian. How ironic it was to dream for a baby when the labor itself was frightening.
Finally, Anthon pulled over in front of the lying - in clinic. He cried for help and two nurses rushed up to see them.
"Miss, hurry up, please. She's going out!"
The nurses saw her shaking and taking deep breaths while holding back the urge to push.
Anthon did not wait for them to come back with a stretcher or wheelchair. He carried her into his arms and rushed towards the clinic.
The nurses, whom he met by the door pushing up a stretcher, turned back inside and guided him towards the maternity table. The obstetrician was already donning her gloves.
After removing her undies and helping her feet into the stirrups, she put all her strength and pushed hard. The baby's head was then crowning.
"Good. Once more... " The OB - Gyne said with an approving look though Anthon could only see her eyes.
At her second urge to push, she put again her whole strength and did her last push. Then, the cry of the baby was heard.
Anthon almost fainted when he saw the blood and Jia's pain when she pushed. But when he heard the baby's shrill voice, he felt his heart leapt with joy.
This must be how Jim felt when he saw her in pain...and this must be how overjoyed he was when he saw the baby.
After the cord was cut, the baby was placed in Jia's abdomen. Jia smiled in happiness while her tears flowed out endlessly.
"Congratulations to the mommy and daddy! " The doctor greeted them and the nurses followed.
Anthon felt flattered that even just for once, he could be misconstrued as her husband.
Jia glanced at him with a pursed smile.
"Thanks again, ton. " Jia said when finally, the doctor and the nurses left.
He did not reply but bent instead and kissed her forehead. She did not resist and instead, held his arm.
"Ton, would you mind if she will call you daddy as well? "She looked into his eyes as he waited for his reply.
"If she's as beautiful as her mom, why not? " He teased her without smiling.
"My goodness! You're always making it difficult for me. "
Then, her phone rang.
"Sweetheart, where are you? I've been asking around but nobody knew where you are. I even called up the hospital. "
"I"m in a maternity clinic near Gee's Cafe. Your Jianna couldn't wait until I reach the hospital. "
Jim was astonished. "Really? She's out already? How does she look like? Does she got my looks?" He bombarded her with too many questions in his excitement.
Suddenly, he remembered his failure as the father of the child who was supposedly to be there to witness his daughter's first cry.
" I'm really so sorry for not being able to make it to be with you...I'm so sorry, sweetheart. It such a heartache..."
"Jim, I understand. Don't worry so much. I and your daughter is
alright. "
" Why didn't you come earlier to the hospital? You shouldn't have endured the discomfort of being there. " Jim reprimanded her but quickly softened when she replied.
"It's because I want to wait for you. "
While she was overwhelmed by Jim's excitement, she forgot momentarily that Anthon was there. She felt guilty.
"Jia, I should go now. I have other matters to attend. "
She understood that his real reason why he suddenly wanted to leave. Jim was coming over and he wanted to give them the privacy. He knew it was one of Jim's most precious moment to share with her for the joy of having an added blessing to the family. Most of all, it was now his own flesh and blood.
His thoughts went back to his dream as he watched baby Jianna being wrapped tightly. She was their flower girl...Her lovely face was the last scene he saw before he was awakened by Jia's call. But why did she looked exactly like this lovely bundle in Jia's side? It was only a dream...
"Bye, Ton! Words are not enough to thank you. " Jia's voice cut into his train of thoughts again.
"My pleasure... And by the way, congratulations to both of you. " He said as he patted her head before turning to leave.
On the other part of the city, the cries of the twin babies were heard. The joy of the Ybañez family in the coming of the lovely pair was far more than the breakthrough they had foreseen in the launching of Hailey's Pen and Pill!
Soon, the press gathered around in the hospital's activity hall. They had been notified early on that the moment the children will be brought into the Ybañez' home, another great and wonderful news would also be proclaimed to the world!
