78 Vampire Guards
Youkedo turned his horse around to leave, and happened to cross sights with Han Jin. Though Han Jin and his group had decided to avoid trouble, it didn't mean they approved of this atrocity. The old man had made it clear before dying that the knight named Youkedo was an utterly ungrateful bastard who bit the hands that fed him. Thus, the expression reflected from their eyes was more or less disdainful.
Youkedo must have perceived the disdain in their eyes. An evil thought crept into his mind. In all honesty, he was not a bold man and had only done all this to scrape a living in this turbulent world. His old master had been killed on the spot due to disobeying the order of the castellan; it was understandable for him to switch sides for the sake of his own future.
He was neither purely a bad guy, nor purely a good person. Unfortunately, it took great wisdom, as well as ability, to stay neutral, or costly mistakes would eventually happen. If Youkedo had chosen to be a good person, he would have taken his young master and fled. Though life on the run might have been hard, it was better than being condemned by his own conscience. On the other hand, he could also choose to be a complete villain and kill the old butler earlier, instead of wearing a guise of mercy. If he had, he wouldn't have gone through all this trouble! The young master Reg would not have had the chance to escape!
The facts had proved that it was never a good thing to be indecisive. He had tried to be kind to his former young master, but his young master had seized the opportunity to slip away. He wanted to spare the life of the old butler, whom he had flattered in the past, but had only made himself look like a fool. How could he command the other knights if he let the old guy insult him like that?
Now, even the villagers dared to show contempt to him. He could no longer control his anger. "Why would a group of professionals hide here so suspiciously? Are you spies from Black Raven City?" he shouted.
Han Jin and the rest were totally dumbfounded. How did they manage to get into trouble even though they were silent the whole time? Before they could explain, Youkedo had waved his hand. "Arrest them!" he gave the order.
Some of the knights stormed toward them, but hesitated when they saw the badge before Moxinke's chest. "My Lord, they..." one of the knights whispered with some timidity in his eyes.
Youkedo slapped the knight across his face without consideration. "You dare disobey my orders?" he roared.
The knight ground his teeth and went ahead, regardless of his fear. He raised his lance and pointed at the professionals in the distance. "Lay down your arms, or suffer the consequences! Did you hear me? Lay down your arms..." he shouted to them.
Han Jin let out a long sigh. It was too outrageous! At least the knights before had some sort of excuse. What was this all about?
Moxinke stared at Han Jin, and so did the others. Among them, Han Jin had taken up an unshakable position as the decision maker due to various reasons. For instance, he had helped them in advancement through his special magics, he had risked his own life for their safety, and he had put forward a great aim, or a remote dream, to lead them into a new road, even though it was a very long one.
Han Jin raised his head, looked into the eyes of the knight called Youkedo, and said word by word, "Fuck... you!"
"What?" Youkedo was stupefied.
"I don't get you. Every time someone insults you, you insist on hearing it again... Do you enjoy being scoffed?" Han Jin ridiculed. "If so, I'm happy to oblige! Fuck you!"
Moxinke slowly moved forward a few steps with a grim smile on face. He coldly looked at the knights opposite him.The giant sword at his waist was ready to be unsheathed. Sunier let out a slight sigh, stepped back, and then jumped onto the roof, taking off her long bow. At the same time, Cessacioun had already released his Magic Shield with his staff firmly grasped in hand, waiting for a fight to break out. Meanwhile, Steelberg, Michelle, and the others who were not fit to fight disappeared into the cellar as fast as possible.
Though Han Jin's team did not have proper rules in place, everyone knew their place. At least, they knew where they should be when certain things happened.
The knights in front of them this time were different from, and far inferior to, those they had met last time. The latter were a team of elites from Holy Crown City, while these were just guards responsible for escorting heavy weapons.
"You..." Youkedo trembled in rage. He was also aware of his own recklessness when he saw Moxinke's badge, but it was no use crying over spilt milk. He had no other way to conciliate the conflict except for fighting.
The steed under Youkedo restlessly snorted. By pure chance, its hoof treaded on the man who was lying unconsciously on the ground. The man let out a slight groan, and then opened his eyes. The first thing he saw was the approaching knights with their lances held out, and on the other side, the sturdy Moxinke, who was raising a giant sword, and the grinning Han Jin. He immediately fainted again.
"Kill them!" Youkedo growled.
Suddenly, an arrow silently appeared out of nowhere and pierced through his back before it showed again on his chest. Blood splashed out like a fountain. Youkedo looked down at himself in disbelief, and heavily tumbled down onto the ground from his horse.
Han Jin was also stunned and wondered when Sunier's archery had become so dramatic. How and why did she curve her arrow to strike from the back? He turned to look at the roof, only to find that her eyes were also wide open with shock and nervousness.
A bunch of black dots suddenly swooped down from the sky. They looked like bats, but much larger, with their wings more than three meters long, and pupils red with a faint red glow. Inside their mouths were sharp teeth, making them look even more terrifying.
They folded their wings before landing among the knights, one after another, and turned into human-like creatures with disgusting appearances. Their long and thin nails looked soft, but were, in fact, extremely sharp. They tore open the knights' armor as if they were tearing paper. Even the horses weren't spared.
Streams of blood spattered out everywhere. Debris of flesh and organs fell down like rain drops. The whole village was turned into a slaughterhouse as those strange creatures killed the knights as if they were butchering animals. They stepped on the fallen knight's shredded flesh, and on their cloaks was the fresh blood that kept spilling from their prey each time they swirled their bodies.
The knights who were swaggering a moment ago all became lambs waiting to be butchered. But despite their imminent collapse, they kept fighting. This greatly baffled Han Jin.
The fact was, the knights hadn't chosen to keep fighting. They simply couldn't run away!
"Gods... The Vampire Guards of Zaganide!" Moxinke's face turned pale.
