70 Assassination
Leopold was scared and chilled as if he had fallen into an ice cavern, but he still boosted his courage and raised his head. He was right. Han Jin was smiling at him, along with five floating ghosts.
"What did you say?" Han Jin asked in a low voice. "Get revenge on me? No one forced you this time, am I right?"
"No... My Lord..." Leopold felt a bitter taste in both his mouth and heart.
"A weathercock like you behaves just like a dog when you are frightened, and suddenly becomes as fierce as a wolf when your situation turns for the better." Han Jin smiled and suddenly lifted his foot.
Leopold was kicked around involuntarily. His hand grabbed onto empty air, and his body fell forward. Below him was the surging river of lava which was getting closer and closer to him. "Ah..." A sad and shrill cry rang in the canyon.
Quincy and his knights, on the other hand, felt that something was wrong and hurried back, only to find that the bridge in front of them had already been destroyed. The canyon of hundreds of meters in width was like an insurmountable ditch for them. They couldn't do anything and helplessly watched the things happening on the other side.
Both sides stared at each other from across the canyon. Intense fury filled the knights' eyes while Han Jin stared back at them with hostility. To a certain extent, such hatred between the two parties was absurd. The knights never had considered their actions wrong; no matter if it was the attack against the mercenaries or hunting down Han Jin, these were all orders they had received from their superiors. In their point of view, those mercenaries, including Han Jin, deserved to die.
On the other hand, Han Jin also had his reasons to be angry. They took up the task to make some money and to help out Sylner. He and his friends had never thought that they would be attacked by the knights when they had finally managed to deliver the goods to the boundary after over a month's hard trek. If it wasn't for Moxinke who had captured the young knight as a hostage, they would have all been thrown into the gutters as dead bodies. This wasn't something that could be tolerated!
A moment later, Han Jin let out a cold laugh and turned around, stepping into the tunnel. He didn't need to fight the knights himself, because as long as their backup force was cut off, it wouldn't take long before they collapsed. Judging from their equipment, they did not prepare for a long-term battle. The only thing that was in their way was the river of lava. To live around the river of lava was definitely a problem. The shortage of food was not as urgent as the lack of water, for they wouldn't be able to survive for more than two days without water.
The tunnel was still dark, but Han Jin was used to moving in the dark. Therefore, he could walk very fast. After turning at a corner, a faint light was emitted. It was from the torch left by the knights that indicated the road for reinforcements, or even for themselves on the return journey.
Han Jin pulled out the torch and inserted it into the ground at the corner. The flame flashed a few times and died out. Han Jin went on and continued destroying the beacons left by the knights. After a while, he had passed six intersections and had ended up with six torches in his hand. He paused for a while and threw the torches onto the ground randomly. Each intersection was left with one or two torches. After that, Han Jin walked toward the last one.
After a few steps, a creepy feeling came to him, as if he was being watched by someone in the dark. The human sight could create a sense of oppression, and Han Jin had learned this a long time ago; that was why he would never look steadily at his target when he was tailing them.
Just then, a faint figure appeared behind him. Its right hand reached out, stabbing a dagger into Han Jin's hindneck like a viper.
Han Jin had sharpened his vigilance, but he hadn't thought that his enemy would appear right behind him with such a close distance. The speed of the figure was as sudden and as swift as lightning. The moment he felt that someone standing behind him, a pricking pain had transmitted from his neck.
The dagger was stabbed deeply into his neck until his body trembled and fell down after a loud cry due to the pain. The figure pulled out the dagger and watched Han Jin's figure toppled over in silence. Then, she moved forward with the intention of turning over his body, but as soon as she touched him, the body exploded with a loud bang.
The figure was caught off-guard and immediately closed her eyes. Countless debris splattered around and ruthlessly struck her all over her face and body. The figure was shocked and stepped back. A large tabletop-sized fireball shot towards her and passed over her head.
It didn't hurt her, but it caused severe consequences. The figure's face became distorted as she stared at Han Jin with cold eyes.
It was a woman in her thirties who was well-maintained with healthy colored skin. She was a real beauty. Unfortunately, her smooth and beautiful long hair was now burned into ashes, and even the hairs left on her head were curled up with puffs of smoke, giving off a strange feeling beyond description.
The woman's body slowly faded away and finally disappeared into the air. Han Jin was shocked. Thanks to his experience in fighting, he knew what he should immediately do, and what he should prepare to do.
A fire charm was thrown out by him without hesitation and hit the last torch. "Boom!" The torch was immediately smashed.
The light from the sparks was too faint to illuminate the surroundings and it became pitch-black again. Han Jin waited quietly. "Trying to play hide-and-seek with me?" Han Jin thought to himself. "Sure, I'll play with you!"
The whole tunnel fell into extreme silence. Both of them held their breaths. Han Jin moved to another place to hide with a long sword in his right hand. He waved his sword from time to time. It was obvious that he was a bit nervous.
To fight or to flee, it was a hard decision to be made. The woman's attack was too ruthless. She had destroyed Han Jin's fake corpse which he had made through the Art of Faked Earth Corpse after consuming a large number of earth elements, as well as nearly seven thousand Yuan of energy. He had not accepted his defeat enough to flee, but he was also not confident in himself if he chose to fight with her. The stab just now still frightened him.
But Han Jin was wrong. The woman could see him all the time and had been continuously moving toward his position, even though his image was very misty. She moved in a patient way, like a viper sneaking toward its prey, which was totally in contrast with the quick and thunderous attack just now.
The five ghosts were all lying on the ground under Han Jin's control. Ghosts were something neither material nor illusory. They could maintain their shapes when floating in midair but would lose their support and turn into thin pieces like pies if they touched the ground.
When the woman was less than three meters away from Han Jin, she incautiously stepped on one of the ghosts. Han Jin would not have been able to feel her movements if she sneaked forward quietly, but he could feel her presence once she stepped onto the ghost. However, he decided to remain still.
"What did you say?" Han Jin asked in a low voice. "Get revenge on me? No one forced you this time, am I right?"
