45 Cowardly Commander
Cowardly Commander
Han Jin quickly absorbed the energy from the three black raven magic crystals and drew a charm in the air after a few moments of hesitation. The Five Wraiths Carrying Charm appeared once again. Han Jin had hundreds of magic crystals of darkness, but only a few of other elements. The three black raven magic crystals did not provide much energy, and even with his previously accumulated energy, there was still only enough to cast a Five Wraiths Carrying Charm or a Soul Catching Charm. The latter was not an option, because he hadn't had the time to experiment with it yet. He couldn't very well use Moxinke or any of his friends as a test subject, especially when this world was so different from the one he came from; even the wraiths he summoned were different from what he expected. Since the Soul Catching Charm targeted the three souls and seven spirits, he didn't know what kind of disastrous effect it might have in this world.
"Go!" Han Jin waved his hand and shouted after targeting a rock.
Five floating ghosts appeared out of nowhere and gathered around the rocks. They held them up together and floated back to Han Jin. Plop! They dropped the rocks onto the ground.
Han Jin watched with his mouth open for a moment. He let out a sigh of frustration. It seemed that he was right: the Five Wraiths Carrying Charm was completely useless now. All the scenarios he had dreamt up had went to waste.
"What about using this charm to catch a living holy animal?" Han Jin pondered. Just then, he felt the air around him turn cold. The five wraiths were emitting a thick atmosphere of darkness, which annoyed him very much. However, as soon as that thought crossed his mind, the wraiths immediately floated back twenty meters and stopped there.
Han Jin was stunned. A moment later, he carefully waved his hand at the five wraiths, whom all immediately floated back to him.
He held out his hand and touched the body of one of the wraiths with his fingertip. He felt a sticky texture. He drew a circle with his finger, then pulled it out. The wraith immediately returned to its original form as if it wasn't affected at all.
An idea popped into Han Jin's head. He waved his hand again and again, and the wraiths came and left according to his instructions like well-trained soldiers. They appeared to be able to see him and sense his thoughts even though they had no eyes on their mist-like bodies at all.
Han Jin fixated his eyesight on an old ancient tree. In the same instant, all five wraiths pounced on the tree and started to slam into it in a frenzy. Their blurry arms randomly flailed around without any break, which caused the trunk to start shaking violently. Leaves started to fall down like rain drops.
"Hey... did I interrupt you?" Moxinke's voice called out from behind the tree.
A whole morning of industrious practice had worn him out, and he had once again come to Han Jin for another "try". Normally, Han Jin would just ignore him if he was cultivating, but it must be said that this time he had chosen the worst moment.
When Moxinke came out from behind the tree, he was met face first by the five wraiths. "What the hell!" he shouted and stretched out his hand to get his sword, but it was not with him. Somewhat flustered, Moxinke bent down, immediately picked up a stone from the ground, and threw it at his attackers before running away.
Wraiths were not dangerous creatures, but they were very annoying, especially for a warrior who was unable to release their fighting technique. It was also hard to get rid of wraiths once they got close. You couldn't rip them off, and if you attacked, it would the same as hitting yourself. If Moxinke had his sword, he might have been able to resist for a while, but now he could only run.
However, the wraiths flew a bit faster than Moxinke could run. A few seconds later, the distance between them had shortened to three meters. Moxinke, realizing that he had no chances of escaping, showed his brave side. He howled and punched at one of the wraiths.
Moxinke's River of Star fighting strength, which was near its first stage of completion, was indeed quite powerful. The punch produced a large hole in the wraith's body. However, the problem was, the wraiths were not fully tangible. When Moxinke's fist struck, the wraith likewise dove at him and wrapped itself around his head.
The other four wraiths all rushed up as well and surrounded Moxinke. He roared and struggled to rush out, but to no avail.
Sunier and Cessacioun finally caught up to him. Cessacioun was shocked by the scene in front of him was about to incant a spell. However, Sunier waved her hand, signaling him to stop.
"What are you doing, help me!" Moxinke cried.
Suddenly, the five wraiths left him and flew back directly to the top of a tree. Han Jin quickly walked out from behind as well.
"It's you! So the ghosts that appeared a few days ago were also summoned by you?" Moxinke suddenly understood everything and shouted angrily. In reality, he wasn't as angry as he acted. He did that to hide his own shock. After all, Han Jin had truly brought him too many surprises these past few days.
"I just wanted to do an experiment; did they hurt you?" Han Jin said in an embarrassed tone.
"That's not fair!" Moxinke grumbled. "The puppet you made bullied me, and the ghost you summoned still bullied me! Why don't you do an experiment on him?" He pointed straight at Cessacioun.
"It's not my fault you chose exactly then to come here," Han Jin snickered.
"I..." Moxinke was utterly irritated. He cast a glance at the wraiths on the tree. "Get them down here! ...Actually one is enough!" he shouted.
Han Jin waved his hand, and a wraith flew down from the tree and floated in front of Moxinke. Moxinke took a step back. Seeing neither this wraith nor those on the tree moving, he instantly found his courage and struck the wraith's chest with his fist. The sparkling fighting strength produced a large hole in the wraith's body, which also caused its shape to become blurrier. Moxinke didn't stop, and punched two more times in succession. The wraith couldn't stand the power of the fighting strength and disappeared into a wisp of blue smoke.
"That felt good..." Moxinke heaved a long sigh of relief and cracked a smirk.
"Which grade do ghosts belong to?" Han Jin asked.
"You don't know? Then how can you summon them?" Cessacioun asked with his eyes wide open.
"Ahaha… My spell is special."
Cessation opened his mouth, but then swallowed his thoughts. He was going to ask if he could learn the spell, but if Han Jin could summon the ghosts with his current power, it must be because the spell allowed him to surpass the limitations of the various grades of magic. A spell like that was unheard of on the entire continent, and it must be extremely secretive information passed down through the generations. He couldn't, and shouldn't, ask Han Jin about it.
"Third or fourth grade," Sunier answered in a low voice.
Han Jin started his calculation in his mind. Releasing a Five Wraiths Carrying Charm required the elements from six dark raven magic crystals, which meant he could make around forty such charms at present and summon a total of two hundred or so wraiths.
"I see." Han Jin nodded. "If I can summon more than two hundred ghosts, how powerful would that be?"
"More than two hundred ghosts?" Sunier was startled, then she smiled. "If you can do that, you can defeat Moxinke more than ten times over."
"You think you can deal with more than two hundred ghosts?" Moxinke asked in an irritated voice.
"No, but I can run away," Sunier replied coldly.
"Run away..." Moxinke felt discouraged. He muttered, "Weren't you a commander? How do you know nothing other than running away..."
