40 A Minor Acciden
Han Jin hid in the woods while the others were still talking. He didn't want to waste all his time with such aimless chatting. He was much stricter with himself and spent more effort than anyone else. Others simply didn't know that he cultivated with most of his time.
After a long period of meditation, he slowly moved his finger in the air. A cloud of mist-like black light appeared on his fingertips, which finally turned into a weird paper charm.
Han Jin let out a slight sigh. He had absorbed energy from more than ten black magic crystals in the past few days, and although he could use his energy to control the dark elements to prevent them from harming his body, he still felt somewhat uncomfortable. Now, he had finally expelled almost all the dark elements out of his body.
When the paper charm was formed, Han Jin looked at Steelberg in the distance and waved his right arm. "Go!" he ordered in a low voice.
The air around Steelberg tangled up suddenly and five floating monsters appeared out of nowhere. They grabbed Steelberg's limbs and hair respectively then dragged him into the air.
"Help…!" Steelberg screamed harshly.
"Ghosts!" Moxinke roared. He abruptly jumped out of the ground and swung his sword down on one of the ghosts. Oddly, instead of disappearing, the ghost merely flickered and turned less visible.
Then, Cessacioun chanted some incantations with his wand held over his head. The sky was lit up in a flash and a curved lightning bolt struck down straight from the sky and accurately landed on one of the ghosts.
It seemed that the power of Cessacioun's magic was much stronger than that of Moxinke's sword. The ghost which was hit by the lightning immediately turned into a wisp of blue smoke and let out a chilling cry before finally disappearing. Ghosts were actually monsters formed by dark elements, thus, it was more accurate to say that its cry was felt rather than heard.
"Go to hell!" Moxinke jumped up again. This time, his fighting strength had undergone some strange changes. His body was now surrounded by a swarm of dazzling lights, like the stars in the night sky.
Han Jin looked at the battle in the distance with his mouth wide open in astonishment. "What the hell are they doing?" he thought to himself. The charm he had used was only a Five Wraiths Carrying Charm, what's this 'ghost' they mentioned? The whole point of the Five Wraiths Carrying Charm was 'carrying', which meant that it would allow something to disappear from one place and then reappear at its destination. What was the point of using the Art of Carrying if they made such a big scene with the wraith?!
The remaining four ghosts didn't know how to fight back or dodge at all, thus they were all wiped out in a short amount of time after Sunier joined the fight as well. Moxinke then caught Steelberg from midair and set him down on the ground.
The crisis had ended, but they still kept up their fighting postures. Sunier held her bow in one hand and an arrow in the other while she carefully listened for sounds in the distance. Cessacioun was still grasping his magic wand tightly and holding his breath due to nervousness.
Ghosts were a kind of undead creature that could only be controlled by necromancers that were knowledgeable with undead magic. Often times, they were the most powerful among the various kinds of magicians. After a warlock becomes a sage, he or she had two choices for further cultivation. One was to become a grand magician by cultivating traditional types of magic, while the other was to become a wizard. Any magician that could control ghosts was at least a ninth-grade professional. That's why Moxinke and the others appeared so nervous.
Time went by silently as they kept themselves as still as statues. Miss Keeley and Steelberg were also aware that they were in grave danger, but the two of them could do nothing but hide in a corner and await their fate.
No one had unlimited patience. After an unknown amount of time, Moxinke finally couldn't take it anymore and shouted out, "Who is it? Come out!" If it was not for the fear deep within his heart, he would probably have added some other insults.
But the woods remained quiet. Something occurred to Sunier suddenly. She turned around and immediately spotted Han Jin with her good eyesight.
Han Jin leaned against the trunk of the tree immediately and peeped his head out from behind. He looked around as if he too was trying to spot the unseen enemy.
"It's all right," Sunier said slowly, "whoever it was is probably gone by now."
"Gone? Then why would he try to capture Steelberg?" Moxinke was suspicious of this and shouted, "Get out! Don't hide in the dark like a coward!"
But still, nothing happened. Only two howls of wolves came from the distance, which were obviously unrelated to the hidden wizard.
"Is he really gone?" Cessacioun was confused.
"Yes, I am sure." Sunier put away her bow and arrows and slowly walked to Han Jin.
Han Jin couldn't pretend like he didn't do anything anymore. He looked at Sunier with an innocent expression in his eyes.
"You did this, didn't you?" Sunier asked directly. She was not that easy to fool, "Don't deny it," she said, "no one here can release dark magic aside from you."
Han Jin simply smiled without replying.
"So it really was you!?" The expression on her face suddenly turned serious. This weird and mysterious prophet could not only release magic to enhance one's spirit, but also control ghosts. His capabilities were out of her imagination. Even stranger, she was confident that his strength was far inferior to a wizard, thus, logically speaking, it should have been impossible for him to accomplish what he just did.
"It was just a minor accident." Han Jin looked at the others in the distance and said with a low and deep voice, "I was going to cast a very special spell. Who knew that it was going to turn out like that."
"What spell… were you trying to cast?" Sunier asked in astonishment. She could tell from Han Jin's tone that he was very dissatisfied with the ghosts he made just now, which meant the magic he intended to release was supposed to be even more powerful.
"I can't explain it right now," Han Jin shook his head, "and there are certain questions I can't seem to answer no matter how hard I try."
"Oh..." Sunier hesitated for a bit and then continued, "Don't experiment like that anymore. What if you hurt Steelberg just now?"
"Rest assured. Believe me, I care about him more than you. What just happened was a simple accident." Han Jin cracked a weary smile.
"I don't mean to be offensive. Just be more careful." After that, Sunier gave Han Jin a meaningful look and walked away.
Han Jin leaned on the trunk with his hands folded across his chest. His mind was somewhat confused. In this world, all of the charms he had made had produced different results. For example, the might of fire charm was greatly magnified, and the effect of the spirit refreshment charm was strengthened significantly. As for the advice Sunier just gave him, that was simply out of the question. He had to make a new assessment for each one of his charms, otherwise, he might accidentally kill himself with his own charms during certain dangerous situations.
"Sunier!" he called out.
"Anything else?" She stopped and turned around.
"Do you still have any third-grade magic crystals? I want some with fire elements."
"You can absorb elements from third-grade magic crystals now?" Sunier's face instantly lit up as she answered.
