283 Let's Promise One Another One Thing
Ashton pursed his lips.
He ended up getting injured on his training causing him to land on the hospital. And for Ashton to end up in the hospital only means one thing, it was that serious.
He was already in the advance mode of his training where he was to face off with real guns on four sides, shooting him at certain intervals but not fixed.
He ended up having been shot on his shoulder and was sent to the hospital, well hospital not under Price but where his mother works.
He already listened to an earful from his family and it was already three days.
He asked everyone not to tell her but she still found out.
"Just who do you think I am? I would have fly over there already if I was not thinking that you deliberately hid it because it was an injury due to your training. But Ash..."
Ashton sighed, she didn't continue and that only means one thing. She was truly mad of him keeping quiet about it.
He knew what she was thinking right now, 'You told me to tell you if I am to get injured or get in trouble. Is it because you are the man that you didn't want to tell me? That you have to be strong between the two of us?'
'Didn't we already said that we would tackle everything together? Why must you keep quiet about it?'
Amber knowing that he could tell what she wanted to convey continued what was on his mind, "I feel like I was not a good wife to you at all. Whenever I am sick, you would always be there for me. So why am I not there with you?"
"Thalie-"
"Why don't you want me to be there? Whenever I feel sad you would always show up, yet when I realized that you are injured my feet just couldn't move because it was already days passed. I am such an incompetent wife."
"Thalie-"
The door opened and came Amber and for the first time since they met, Ashton couldn't read her eyes.
"I am not yet as good as you are in feeling that my other half is in danger. Or that my other half is not in good condition. But I will strive to be just like that, I don't have to wait for your call or for me to call you and suddenly find out that you are sick."
"I will strive to become someone who would suddenly feel uncomfortable and my other half would be the first person that would appear on my mind."
She nodded at Cedric who bowed towards her and left the two of them in the room.
Ashton couldn't speak, this was just like the day she came barging in his office and giving him a strong headbutt.
She placed the fruits she brought on his bedside table before looking at his injured arm. It was his left side so his eating and all won't be affected.
"When did you arrive?" he finally asked.
She walked towards the window and looked outside, "About half an hour ago."
"Thalie-"
"I know. I understand what you feel, for I too would feel that way whenever I am injured and the thought of you worrying would pop up in my mind. So just let me get over this anger inside me for a bit."
She understood everything very well, but the fear when she found his location in the hospital was still too much for her.
She even made something she vowed not to do by hacking through the hospital's CCTV just to know what exactly was going on for he was not telling her nor did the others.
She felt him behind her but she didn't look back, then she felt him place his chin on top of her head without raising his hands to touch her, just his chin.
He didn't apologize nor did she want him to.
It was not because it was no longer necessary with the way they understood one another but because they both knew more things like this would happen again in the future.
Either Ashton would keep quiet about his injury or Amber would. They knew with their line of work and their path of revenge and the way they didn't wnat the other to worry about them, they knew that this would happen over and over again.
Ashton finally got the reason why he couldn't read her eyes or what she was feeling when she came in. It was because she, herself didn't know what to feel towards him or herself.
Whether to get mad or to get hurt for being placed on the dark.
He understood because when he thought and placed himself on her shoes, he too would feel that way, conflicted.
"Maybe understanding each other too much is also a burden for the two of us," Amber finally spoke.
"Maybe."
"But, it's not regrettable isn't it? That we understood each other this deep," she then said.
"It will never be."
She finally turned around, her eyes finally showing her worry.
"Let's promise one another one thing."
Ashton smiled at her and fixed her hair behind her ear.
"I know, I would have the same decision as you. I might hide my injury to you and may only tell you or you may only find out when days have already passed."
Ash remained staring at her. His black eyes staring straight in her amber colored ones.
"So let's promise, that we would call each other. No matter how big our injury is, we would tell each other that we are fine."
"A code?" Ashton asked.
Amber nodded her head, "Yes a code at the same time not. When we hear the other say that they are fine, we would understand that they were injured."
"And that we are fine and out of danger," she finished.
Ashton once again smiled, "I promise."
"Then I promise too."
They remained staring at one another for a good few minutes before Ashton returned to his lying position while Amber started peeling fruits for him.
"When do you return?" he asked.
"Tonight, I really couldn't leave now even though I really wanted to. They are starting to get impatient already," she replied with a dejected look.
When she realized where he was, she jumped on a plane and the moment she landed she called Aldger to know the condition.
If there was still no movement then she would have stayed in Celestial for another week or so. But since there was already a movement she could only return immediately after making sure that Ashton was really alright with her very own eyes.
"Let me accompany you," he suddenly spoke.
Amber looked up at him in shock, "Really?"
Ashton chuckled, "She finally sent me a proposal, the land they wanted to acquire this time was also in Achernar country. Though it is on another city from where you currently are."
"Then isn't that a good news? But I think this is abrupt, when were you planning on coming?" she asked once again.
"It should have been a week from now since I would be able to move my hand by then. But you already know so there's no point in prolonging my stay here."
Amber could only shake her head, the fear she felt when she found out he was in the hospital dissipated when she finally saw him alive and well.
"Very well, please do accompany me to Achernar country. But you must not show up in front of Ashley. She might suddenly decide to runaway."
"I already told you, I am leaving her in your care. Knowing that she is fine is more than enough for me and my family. And knowing that you would really take care of her, puts us at ease."
The two of them spoke and told each other things they didn't get to say through the phone. Even the most trivial of things were shared between the two of them.
It was already sundown when they realized the time.
Amber decided to give Simon a call and postponed her flight to at least night of the next day. She still need to know that Ashton was really fine to be discharged.
For the whole night until they fell asleep, they just talked to one another. As if the phone calls they shared were not enough for them to tell each other what had been going on with their lives.
"I guess my wish still couldn't come true even though we are already married," she sighed just before they fell asleep.
"Hmmm?"
"My wish of the two of us just lounging around our place for days to come without a care of what is going on outside. That no matter how long, we don't need to worry about the future."
Ashton caressed her cheek, "Surely that day will come. Both of us will make that happen after all."
She smiled at him and enjoyed the warmth coming from him as the two of them drifted to sleep.
