CH 133
“I didn’t know there was such a thing …… I’d better be really careful or I’ll lose by a narrow margin.”
Jack is rummaging through the items on the simple shelves.
I’d like to win because I know he’s been walking around Luciel’s house and the shopping district for this day. There’s a figure approaching, and Jack senses the presence and turns around, hands in his pockets.
“…… Oh, Nemigo. What do you want?”
“What do you think, Jack?”
“Do you think going to tell you? You guys did a great job fighting with the rest of the class.”
Jack squinted at him, and Nemigo replied, his mouth agape.
“A-Class went too far, so what can we do? We’ll use anything to survive. It’s an ironclad rule for adventurers.”
Jack then grinned and moved away from Nemigo, opening his mouth to provoke him.
“Well, I understand what you mean. It’s hard when we’re so awesome that it’s impossible for your class to win on its own! Ha-ha-ha-ha!”
“That’s the kind of attitude that makes you a target.”
“I guess you have to pick the right partner. Well, good luck with that!”
“Kuh …….”
Jack, wary of interference, quickly leaves and returns to his rummaging. When I glanced around, I saw a female student from B-Class happily rummaging around.
“I can’t take anything too big, or it’s going to cost too much, so let’s collect some stuff!”
“”Hey, there’s no way that thing is going to make 10,000 beryls …… so why bother obstructing with that?”
Not paying attention to the child who was rummaging through the trinkets, Jack looked at the other children in the class, rummaging again.
“What’s that guy doing?”
“I think he’s wondering what the other kids are bringing up. Obstructing others …… doesn’t mean much at this point.”
“I’d be happy with first place, though ……”
When we told him not to be reckless, he looked back at us only once and immediately went back to ransacking. With the time limit looming, Jack chose a silver shield, a frosted glass plate, and a golden wind instrument …… flute, I guess? He seems to have chosen it.
“I’m done too.”
“Me too!”
After Jack, Nemigo from C-Class and the female student from B-Class also bring her items for appraisal. Nemigo brought a set of silverware, a bottle of liquor, and a dagger.
The girl from B-Class, as I had seen earlier, had brought a bunch of necklaces, rings, copper cups, and an unfamiliar statue.
“……”
“What’s the matter, Lars-kun?”
“No, I was just thinking that that kid in B-Class really picked out a lot of stuff.”
“Yeah. Isn’t that a bit too much ……?”
Kudelica tilted her head and muttered.
It’s not as if she’s abandoning the game, so I think she’s serious. She really was shopping with experience.
Then D and E class also entered the appraisal, and after a while, the price was presented.
“The one that came closest to 10,000 beryl …… was–“
Samwell-sensei opened his mouth with the papers he had collected from everyone, and Jack put his hands together as if in prayer and meditated.
“Settle it here ……!”
“I can’t lose to Jack ……!”
Nemigo also prayed next to him.
But–
“First place goes to Sonya from B-Class! 9925 Beryl!”
“Wha!? Really!?”
Jack was clearly disappointed.
The price was close to 10,000, so much so that I wanted to know how much the individual items cost. I think the statue was a good price, but …… And then, as if on cue, the second place result popped up.
“Second place goes to C-Class, 9889 Beryl by Nemigo!”
“What!?”
“Oh! Yes! I lost earlier, but I got it this time!”
“Damn it ……!”
“Oh, we didn’t even get second place ……”
“Third place is still good enough.”
I say to Ryuuze, who drops his shoulders, and the third place is announced.
“Third place, D class, Sonia! 9827 Beryl!”
“H- …… Huh!?”
“Jack …… you …….”
“No way!? H-How much did I get!”
Jack was impatient with the unexpected turn of events. But the next moment.
“Fourth place, Class A, Jack! 9779 Beryl!”
“Oh …… so you escaped last place ……!”
Jack wipes the sweat from his forehead.
“Good! Two points!”
“But it’s a shame that the high point earners, B and C, took first and second place, because if D or E had taken them, they would have finished first regardless of the outcome of the combat competition.”
“Never mind, Yogus. We’re the ones who win in the end. Let’s show them that we won’t let interference stop us.”
“I’ll do my best, too!”
Urka, who was among the last members of the team, raised his fist to inspire, and Ryuuze and I clasped our own fists to his. In the midst of all this, E-Class was determined to be in last place, and the baton was being passed to the second competitor.
Hmm? There’s something Jack is saying to Luciel ……? Did he notice something?
“You’ll be first place, Luciel!”
“Good luck!”
“Some of the items will look familiar, so stay calm!”
Luciel responded to our cheers with a small wave of her hand. She didn’t seem to be nervous, so we hoped she would choose as usual.
“In A-Class, the favorite to win, the first one didn’t do so well, finishing fourth, but they still has an advantage.”
“But if the D and E classes take first place here, even if they take first place in the combat events, they won’t be able to reach the A-Class, and that’s a quagmire waiting to happen.. He was a bit of a schemer, but I think he had the right stuff.”
“The other classes are also doing well, but this time they’ve fallen behind.”
Verna-sensei doesn’t mention it, but she knows that we’ve been practicing and training a lot this past month. I don’t know what other classes have been practicing, but I don’t think we’ll be able to keep up with them with the amount of practice we’ve been doing in class.
“Lars-kun, don’t just stand there, you have to watch! Luciel-chan’s turn has started!”
“Y-Yeah!”
Nora slapped me on the back and scolded me, and I quickly turned my attention to the field. Then Luciel would stare at the shelves for a few minutes, and then begin to act.
“This and this …… Oh, this might be good too?”
She grabs a dirty oak staff, a pale cup, a red jeweled bracelet, and a thick book and puts them in a basket.
“That child has no hesitation!?”
“Kuh …… there’s no way carrying all that stuff is enough for 10,000 beryls.”
She put an unbelievable amount of stuff in the basket and I think she collected almost everything she could find on the shelf. Knives, swords, candlesticks, mirrors ……. We all rolled our eyes at the collection.
“I-It’ll be okay ……. I think?”
“I don’t think she’s the kind of girl who would do anything random, though?”
Kudelica is sweating, but we have to trust Luciel and wait. Then, suddenly, Luciel waits patiently in front of the shelf.
“What the matter ……?”
“Is she still going to take something ……?”
The other classes looked at her quizzically as they rummaged. Luciel smiles coolly, shrugs her shoulders, and goes back to her work.
Then, with one minute left, it happened!
“Ei!”
” ” “What!?” ” “
Luciel suddenly turns the basket upside down and starts emptying it. With thirty seconds left, all that was left in the basket was a filthy wand and a bracelet with a red gem on it.
“It’s over! Please take the basket or the item in your hand and go to the appraisal.”
At Verna-sensei’s signal, Luciel handed over the items with a smile. It’s only two items, but the bracelet looks expensive, and the oak staff might be a good one.
And the results was–
“First place, A-Class, Luciel-chan! …… 9-, 9999 Beryl ……!”
“Yay!”
“Seriously!?”
We were just as surprised as the rest of them, and we were right on the edge of 10,000 beryls. And then.
“Second place, E-Class, 7240 beryls.”
“How low!?”
The third place, B-Class, had 6823 beryls, the fourth place, C-Class, had 6759 beryls, and the last place, D-Class, had 5963 beryls.
“The reason why she didn’t do anything until the very last minute was so that we wouldn’t get it ……!?”
“T-That’s not fair!”
Luciel smiled at the confused kids from the other class, tilted her head and opened her mouth.
“What? Really? I think it’s much more unfair for everyone to obstruct A-Class, though ……? I’m a merchant’s daughter, and I know the prices by heart. And they didn’t say you can’t throw away what you put in the basket, right ……?”
“Uh ……!?”
Ufufu, all the people in the room groaned and couldn’t say anything as Luciel laughed and laughed.
“Luciel-chan is absolutely right.”
“So there was no time for hesitation. There’s no point in interfering if they’re going to throw it away at the last minute, so it’s a double-edged safety net.”
Luciel is praised and returns with Jack with a big smile on his face.
“I did it!”
“You’re so smart, Luciel-chan!”
“That was Jack-kun’s idea, you know.”
“Hehe, I was actually going to take third place and just barely win, but I’m sorry. The plan was to make it look like I was making a mistake so people would think it was easy.”
“Oh, so that’s how it is! That’s why you provoked Nemigo.”
“That’s how it is♪ It’s a shame because I was aiming for third place and now I’m fourth, but you caught them off guard. Luciel’s basket stuffing was meant to obstruct them …… As harassment!”
“I was surprised, but it was fun to see everyone’s surprised faces.”
Jack didn’t get up for nothing when he fell. We laughed at Jack and thanked them both.
You did it, Jack! Good job to you too, Luciel!
Thank you for reading!

“The last chapter was a disaster ……”
I didn’t think I’d be posting another work …… I guess I’m tired ……
