12 7 Days Before Halloween PART C
**14th of August, 2003 [5 years ago]**
"I did it! " her mother exclaimed. The door of the very last room in the dungeon had finally swung open after being shut tight for five consecutive days.
She scampered up the stairs to the living room with gladness that day and theatrically declared that she had finally found the way to resurrect her son.
At first, Alivia thought that her mother had finally gone insane due to the long-term grieving over her son's decease and the parting of her father who could no longer bear the screaming, shouting and crying of his depressed wife.
She never expected that the ritual for the resurrection was real and was going to be successful; not until she saw Luke sitting up and slowly wandering around the room right after a swarthy figure emerged from the strange sparkling circle on the floor and dashed right into Luke's corpse.
And since Luke's return from the dead, her mother had begun to laugh, dance and hum her favourite songs again while she cooked Luke's favourite dish- lamb stew.
As for Luke himself, he seemed to have become truly "alive" for quite a while. Even though he couldn't utter his words in a fluent manner as he usually did and had to repeat one word over and over again like how the zombies usually acted in movies, he didn't eat human brains or flesh and could walk, run, jump and even dance properly like any normal human being.
Nevertheless, while her mother rejoiced in what she called as the act of true miracle, Alivia had an unsettling feeling that there was something mighty queer and fishy behind the resurrection. And she was right!
A few months after the revival, lively, annoying Luke began to lose his balance; not able to walk in a straight line; his phrases transited from repetitions of words to repetitions of separated syllables and prolongations of speech sounds; and he started to lack proper control of his limbs, spilling his food like a baby...all in all, as though the battery inside him was draining, turning him back into that lifeless corpse again, that was when Alivia confirmed her suspicion: that "miracle" indeed came with a price...
