47 Chapter 47
"Excuse me, Your Excellency. But I don't understand." Ezedius replied to Quickstep. This was the second time he heard these words from the mouth of the immortal. He also said that during their meeting earlier this day. But no matter how hard or fast he used his mind, Ezedius could not begin to fathom the mind of the bald immortal.
"I said, do you like honey or bread crumbs?" Quickstep asked once more to Ezedius. He slowly said each word this time. Do human brains work slowly? Or is it that his friend was just particularly dull? Quickstep wondered.
"I guess I prefer honey more than the other, Your Excellency." Ezedius said. He just answered and did not think of the reason behind the question. It was better that way. He just can't understand this bald immortal no matter how he tried.
"Hahaha! We're kindred spirits, my friend! I love honey too than bread crumbs. Hehehe!" Quickstep said to Ezedius. It seems that humans and ants had a lot of similarities, he noted.
"He he he…" Ezedius laughed awkwardly in response. It was better to face a laughing immortal than an angry one, he supposed.
"After I finish my quest in your city, I would get you some honey. It has also been many years since I last enjoyed the sweet taste of honey. Hahaha!" Quickstep said once more to Ezedius.
"We are here, Your Excellency." Ezedius reported after the words of Quickstep. He got up from his seat and led the way outside the carriage.
"Hehehe! This flying house is so fast. If I have enough honey to barter, perhaps i could trade one for myself." Quickstep muttered as he followed the walking Ezedius. He imagined that it would be fantastic to simply sleep during his travels. His wife would have loved this kind of tool, he thought.
"Please accept this gift, Your Excellency." Ezedius declared after they got off from the magical carriage. He was a human expert. How could he not hear what the bald immortal whispered? He could even hear sounds coming from thousands of kilometers away.
After a breath, the three beasts together with the carriage disappeared. Ezedius opened his palm and a ring lay on it.
"Are you asking my hand for marriage, my friend? I'm touched but I will have to decline. You are human and I'm an ant. We are heavens and earths apart. I would counsel you to seek love with someone else." Quickstep replied softly.
He empathized with his human friend. Quickstep knew full well how difficult it was to get rejected. The pain would endure a hundred rains. It was better to suffer the violent winds of nature than have a heart that was broken. Quickstep remembered all the girls that he had loved before.
It was a bittersweet memory. One he had always cherished deep inside his heart. He believed that all those nubile and lovely ladies made him who he was right now. Parts of himself were left to each of those bygone romances.
It was something that would not return. A time of growing up. That was why Quickstep was careful in dealing with his rejection towards his suitor.
