39 Chapter 39

"I'm sorry. I let you down, Rhixar. You did not betray me. It was my fault you became like that. I was a failure ant friend in the end. But still, this is a responsibility I will have carry with me as long as I live. Goodbye, my friend!" Quickstep said his farewell to Rhixar.

He blinked from the sky to reappear after a half breath before Rhixar. He raised his hand and formed a fist. When he was about to throw a punch that would no doubt erase the existence of Rhixar from this world, Quickstep heard a voice in mid motion.

"Your Excellency, please halt!" a voice of a man interrupted Quickstep's swing. He looked for the source of the sound and determined its location with just a single glance. It was from the east, coming in fast. After five breaths, a man was seen to arrive in front of Quickstep, beside the frail figure of Rhixar.

Ten breaths after that, a swarm of humanities appeared and crowded behind the newcomer and Rhixar. They all wore the same red robe worn by Rhixar. The assembly released their killing intent towards Quickstep but its effect was barely felt at all.

Quickstep only felt that the night air became colder. He was curious with this recent change. Were these people had something to do for the current shift in temperature, Quickstep thought.

"What are you all doing?! Did you just turn the weather much more colder?!" Quickstep asked in annoyance. He was an ant. In his days of scavenging across the lands, Quickstep never liked the cold. He hated it in fact.

During cold days, he could not gather food for his family and had to stay inside their home to survive the cold. The bad memories came surging back towards the mind of Quickstep. Those were not good days. They had starved because of the cold, Quickstep remembered.

"Stop! At Once!" the person beside Rhixar commanded to the horde of humans behind him. His loud voice affected the nearest ones the most and some had even vomited blood. Others were unfortunate enough to directly faint from command.

They dropped in the ground from the air and reported their fall with a loud booming thud. The temperature returned once again to being just right for a normal evening, unaffected by any magic or sorcery.

"Did you kill them?" Quickstep asked after he saw the falling humans. He hoped that those people had strong enough body to survive the impact. If not, he felt sorry for the person with the loud voice. Killing wasn't easy.

Quickstep was already experiencing that the robed assassin he accidently killed was haunting his thoughts. Even though he knew that that robed assassin was an enemy. That thought doesn't make him feel better. Killing was hard, he determined.

It was a memory he would rather forget, but could not. Quickstep wished that it would get better with time.

"Please forgive their rudeness, Your Excellency. They have not died and will be fine after a moment of rest. I am Octavio. It's my honor to be standing before your eternal presence." The loud voiced person answered Quickstep. He cupped his hand and bowed his head a little during the introduction.
