36 Chapter 36

The battlefield was silent for about a minute. Everyone was stunned after they witnessed the demise of the robed assassin.

"Hahaha! Seems like I was right in my guess. This demon really was not as simple as he appears to be. But how could an immortal like this act and talk that way? Hmmm. I need to be polite in my manners while conversing with the demon from now on." Ezedius thought gladly.

He congratulated himself for his brilliant foresight. While at the same time, he also took great joy in the difficulties of others. Ezedius imagined how Rhixar was feeling right at this moment. It was definitely not a place Ezedius would want himself to be at. He smiled at the Divine Evil Sect elder's position.

"Did you order him to attack me, my new friend Rhixar?" Quickstep turned around and asked Rhixar.

"Of course not, my friend! His recent actions had nothing to do with me." Rhixar answered Quickstep. He knew he was in deep trouble. He had wanted to run after his hired assassin shattered into nothingness but that would have been a clear indication of his guilt.

Thus, he chose to remain still and hope for the best. Hopefully, this fool before him won't notice his treachery.

"You have chased me again and again. You even killed me twice already. Yet I still forgave you because of the forest that I burned. It was yours, wasn't it? That was the reason why you were so angry with me. I understand it all because I was born a smart ant.

And I became even smarter now. But I can't believe that in the end, after all I've suffered for you, you still betrayed me. Yes, I knew all along. Don't bother to deny it. You shouted at the robed person, "Kill the fool now!". If you really wanted to make it secret, you should have whispered to that robed person.

But you shouted and that was what made all the difference. I heard it, friend!" Quickstep said in length and emphasized the last word he uttered. The laws and teachings of the clan were clear. Treat your friends honestly and show no mercy to your enemies.

It was the golden rule which has served the Ant Race well since its Founding Fathers had reigned Supreme upon all lands. These teachings were learned through the blood, sweat, and tears of his elders. Quickstep was not about to be the first ant to forget the values inherited from his ancestors.

Because even if he changed to multiple existences until his fingers together with his toes couldn't count them anymore, he is and forever will be a proud member of the great Ant Race.

"Hahaha! What was wrong with what I said?! You are nothing but a fool, demon!" Rhixar said after his façade had been revealed. He was not one to waste words with an idiot like the one in front of him. He was an elder of the Divine Evil Sect.

If he should face death, then he would have one befitting that of his status. He will never bow to anyone. Even to an immortal.
