19 Finding a Weakness
"We have two different options moving forward from what I can see. One, Orion can make another array and transfer us somewhere else. The chances of us ending up in a higher realm is small. We will more than likely end up in another lower realm or even worse, a barren realm. In addition, there is a possibility of us spawning in a dangerous area. You also must remember that we all have low cultivation levels currently.
Our second choice is to stay here in this world and build up our strength until we either are comfortable enough to take our chances at using Orion's transfer array or he is confident enough to send us back home. This is the safest route, but the downside of this possibility is that it will take a lot longer for us to advance in our cultivation." Sald instructed.
"Another possibility is that we simply take over this realm and become gods here. I doubt that is anyone in the backwater place that could match up to the potential that we all have. Let alone Tagas, I mean Arbor, no one in the same realm will be his match." Leo added.
Arbor simply smiled and replied, "I think we should find civilization before we make any decision. I only have enough rations to last Eos and I for eight days. How about you three?"
Orion, Sald, and Leo answered that they have 10, 7, and 20, respectively. When asked why he has a lot of rations, Leo answered that he needs a high amount of food to fuel his body. Under further investigation, it was uncovered that he simply loves to eat. Thus, the amount of food he has is for snacks between his main meals.
In the meantime, Arbor assigned Eos to find a trace of civilization. He has an advanced sense of smell due to him being a beast. Eos started to sniff around within a half mile radius. He is running up and down the sand dunes trying to find a lingering scent of people, food, or another animal.
At this time Eos returned and motioned for Arbor in a certain direction. Arbor got everyone's attention to start walking in the direction that Eos had motioned towards.
After trenching through the scolding barren desert for three days, the group met a gigantic purple scorpion the size of an elephant. The scorpion was in the first level of the three-star realm. This is equivalent to one step ahead Arbor and Eos. It required a half-ass effort from everyone to take down the scorpion. Luckily, no one got pierced by its tail and ended up poisoned. Everyone looked at Arbor with a questioning look when he collected the scorpion carcass and stowed it away in his storage ring.
The group continued for another week when they had reached what seemed to be a road. Along the way they had met with three more scorpions. Two of them were in the first level of the three-star realm and one was in the third level of the three-star realm. The strongest scorpion had taken a complete effort to take it down. Everyone had gotten injured and needed more rations to recover. The group was now down to just five days left before they will run out completely of food and water.
A realization crept up on Arbor at this time. His battle power suffers a thirty percent decrease when he is in desert terrain. This is due to the climate and environment lacking an excessive amount of vitality from any type of plant life. He figures that he would only be able to use his physical body if he was near a volcanic region.
When they got to the road Eos continued to lead the way down the road. A couple of days later two giant elephant oxen appeared in the distance. They stood side by side at fifteen feet tall. As the distance between the two groups started to close the group of five started to rejoice.
"If you lot are lost, the closest city is the opposite direction. I'll give you all a ride for a small fare." A middle-aged man in raggedy clothes spoke. The man sat on top of a cart that is filled with tens of barrels.
Eos got death stares from his four companions once they heard what the stranger had said. Eos let out a couple soft and embarrassing caws. Arbor could piece together what Eos was trying to say and scolded him in return, "Just because the smell is coming from that direction does not mean that is the closest city. You must factor in the wind. You are inexperienced so it is forgivable this time. You are lucky the elder here showed up."
"Humble senior, I don't have much, but I do have this scorpion carcass. I hope that it can cover the costs." Arbor hesitated as he brought out one of the weaker scorpions.
[A space ring?! I do not know of any prestigious sect around here nor do I recognize them….. I can't take any chances at offending them.] The driver thought to himself before waving the group onto his cart, "That will suffice, please make yourselves comfortable."
Along the way Orion talked with the driver about the city they were heading to and the current condition of it. The Eksu City is ruled by a king and queen who are both peak kaholo realm. Besides the royal family, there are five sects and three factions within the city.
While the five sects are friendly on the surface the alliances change monthly. This is mainly due to marriage alliances that get established and then broken apart, young masters eying for power and scheming in the shadows, people getting easily offended, and everything in between. The senior summed up the situation with the sects as a cluster fuck.
The three factions are all branches of the Alchemist, Mercenary, and Blacksmith guilds. These small branches never show their battle prowess in the city unless directly provoked. Each time this has happens someone of unimaginable power, rarely seen in the city, appears and slaughters those that offend them. Thus, those with and common sense shows them respect.
Eksu city just had an attack from a beast wave a week earlier and is currently being rebuilt. The most challenging part is the city sits right on the line between a desert and a mountain and has a river that is half a mile wide running through the middle of it.. Because of this there are beast of various kinds attacking and they cannot create any massive defensives to easily deal with a large amount of the same type of beasts. While the beast in the water typically do not venture to close to the city, they do at random times if the battle on the surface gets to intense. Eksu city was fortunate enough that they had not on the last two attacks.
The driver, Grandpa Patches, as he requested them to call him, chose his leisure life of driving the cart due to the overall state of the city. He grew up living a normal life as he put it, no desire for power, fame or fortune. He doesn't have a wife or kids, but his sister has a small inn inside the city that they can stay at for a night or two for free.
When they got to the city walls, the five kids were disappointed in the size. They were hoping it would be the size of Ground Zero, but it was a mere village compared to that.
The twenty-foot walls around the city were built with a common metal and stones. The fortifications were of mediocre quality, discounting the fact that they were being rebuilt anyway. No buildings could be seen over the walls, signifying that the wall is the tallest part of the city. All in all this is a typical barren city on the outskirts of the world that is fighting tooth and nail to survive.
The group easily got into the city within any trouble. The guards at the walls noticed who arrived and let them pass without any word or trouble. The four young cultivators paid no head to this. They took it as there is no entrance fee and that the elder was a regular who traveled out of the city often.
