Chapter 227 - Promised Yourself to Me
Andrea received a visit from Gabriel the following day and at first, she gave him a cold treatment, just the way she did when they met again after three years at a restaurant.
"You probably already know by now that we have reconciled as friends or siblings, right?" He asked while grinning at her. He was sitting on the stool next to her hospital bed when he invited her to take a stroll. "Would you like to get some fresh air?"
"Where is Taya?" Andrea asked. It confused her about how Gabriel could still visit her considering he had a selfish girlfriend.
Gabriel looked startled. He did not expect to be asked outright about Taya. "We already broke up, Andy."
"When? Why? I thought you loved her?"
She frowned after throwing a series of questions and suddenly recalled being confronted by Nancy and Taya in a restaurant.
Gabriel just smiled at her question and said, " We already had this conversation, but I don't mind telling it again. Let me take you for a walk."
Just outside the facility, Alfred has had a garden for them to play around during their younger years. It remained to be the same after all this time.
Andrea could walk but required a little support. She felt her muscles had been out of use for a very long time and she recognized; she had lost a lot of weight.
Gabriel assisted her through the walk and began to explain about Taya and how that Nancy had her kidnapped before. "My mom was partly responsible for your kidnapping, oh and by the way, you already made her disappear on earth."
As he spoke, Andrea kept staring at how different he was. This was the side of Gabriel that she had not seen before. He was calm, accepting of his faults and that of his mother.
Gabriel brought her to a wooden bench facing the beautiful wildflowers in the garden before telling her, "My revelation for you today… is about how you lost your memories… Are you ready to listen? No fainting this time, okay?"
Andrea looked at the flowers before answering, "I'll try my best."
"If you feel you are about to faint, stop thinking too much and just accept things as the way they are."
"Okay. I'm ready," Andrea assured him.
Gabriel explained about Project Zero and how they had longed collected children from the original experiment. She then revealed that she was abducted and hypnotized and as a result, she had suppressed her memories.
Every day, Li Wen, Gabriel and Alfred gave Andrea pieces of information. Mostly, she could absorb the strange facts but there were also times when she'd get puzzled again and experience headaches. However, despite the difficulty, they remained patient with her.
Days passed and Lu Fang seemed to be getting multiple excuses from Li Wen about speaking to Andrea. She was often asleep or having treatment. One time he caught Hanxi speaking to his wife on the phone, just behind him. He became flustered and demanded an explanation.
"Relax, bro!" Hanxi tried his best to calm the man down. "Okay, I'll tell you. Li Wen could not break it to you and she also feared you might come running to the UK the moment that you learned of the truth."
"Hanxi!"
"She has forgotten," he said to Lu Fang. "She had lost her memories from the day you met."
The man immediately turned his back, heading towards Lu-Wei's private plane when he implied, "Let's go to Britain - "
"This was why Yeong instructed Li Wen not to tell you! He knew you'd react this way and leave the task unfinished!"
"You are trying to tell me that my wife had forgotten me and I'm supposed to do nothing about it?"
'Hanxi think! Think!' Hanxi was telling himself. He needed to stop Lu Fang from returning. Otherwise, they would not accomplish what they came here for. One of the biggest contributors to Project Zero had taken refuge in Canada and they had just landed at Calgary International Airport.
"Whose fault was it?! Who did this to Andy? Project Zero, they brainwashed her and put her into a coma.. Lu Fang, you need to remember why we have gone this far, travelling to North America to pursue who had wronged you! This was their fault!"
Lu Fang remained unmoved by Hanxi's convincing until he finally said, "If we don't get them now, they will come for Andy again and who knows, even your children since they have Andy's blood as well."
The two argued as they stood in the parking lot with Alfred's men behind them, trying to make sense of their conversation. They were attracting attention from the passersby so Hanxi tried persuading him again, "Bro, I'm not an expert in giving advice. I know exactly how hard it is to endure, but at least she is safe now. We just need to make sure it stays that way for the rest of her life."
Lu Fang's mind drifted away to the skies. He was far away from his children and his wife. Hearing that Andrea might have forgotten him, it made him wonder if she was still willing to have a future with him. "What kind of trial is this?" He asked himself.
Without saying another word, he turned back to where Hanxi stood and said, "You better help me talk sense into her."
"You are my brother now," Hanxi said as he punched him lightly in the chest, "I've seen too much of your struggle as a couple for me to just ignore it… Let's get this over and done with. Before you know it, you are ready to be back with your family."
Lu Fang turned a blind eye to the painful truth. He was miles away from Andrea. Thus, it was best to finish what they started.
On the drive to their destination, the man kept thinking to himself, 'Andy, you swore to be by my side all throughout. I will hold you accountable for the commitment that you made. Amnesia or not, you had vowed yourself to me.'
