10 Chapter 10. The Mysterious Man in Black

He removed the cloak tied around his neck exposing a black shirt and pants underneath, then stuffed the cloak into the bag that was tied to his horse. From his sleeve he pulled out a cloth mask and tied it around his head covering everything but his eyes. To make sure his sword was secured tightly to his waist, he jiggled it, testing the slack. It hung tightly in place with no slack. Now he was ready and in the dead of night, he ran swiftly through the woods until he came upon a large, brightly lit Manor. Taking a few quick strides and with one hard jump he pushes off the ground into a high pounce, landing onto the side walls of the Biah Manor Gate. With reflexes like that of a monkey, he quickly grabs onto the nooks and dents in the wall scaling and swinging his way up and then over, landing like a stealth cat onto the ground below.

Not wanting to be seen, the man in black scales a smaller building and swings his body up, landing on to the roof. Then jumping from one rooftop to another rooftop he reaches the building right next to the wedding quarters. Realizing that there was still time to spare he decided to look around a bit and get a better understanding of the layout. Jumping swiftly between the rooftops using his incredible reflexes and memory by the time he came back to the roof next to the wedding chamber, he figured out every path and structure inside Biah Manor. He also knew how many attendants and maids there were as well as the times they moved around. He then crouches down blending himself into the night sky waiting for the bride to show up. After several hours, he could see four maids leading a woman dressed in red into the bedroom below, and then they leave — the man in black then jumps onto the rooftop of the wedding chamber. He begins to look for a loose board or shingle in the roof. Gently pressing around he finds a cluster of loose boards and shingles and pries them open. The opening was just big enough for him to get through.

He could see the bride sitting on the bed with a veil covering her face when he dropped down from the ceiling. When he came down his steps were so gentle that he didn't believe that she notice because she did not move or stir. Quietly he crept over towards the bed until he was right in front of her. While looking at her, he noticed that the red dress she wore was a style similar to the people from his homeland, people who were long gone now. He found it strange but now was not the time to be thinking about these things.

Yuliah's veil was thick but she could still make out somethings through the cloth, and she saw him when he dropped from the ceiling, a man in black. Then watched in fear frozen, unable to move as he moved closer and closer to her. She knew it wasn't Liang because his steps were too light. As the man got closer Yuliah grew more scared and she panicked. She closed her eyes like a frighten child thinking if you don't see it, it wasn't really there.

Not being from the Northern Kingdom he did not know about their customs. That whoever lifts the veil of a bride on her wedding night especially in the wedding chambers, becomes the groom. So with a flick of his wrist, he lifted the veil up and over her head.

When the veil lifted Yuliah's eyes popped open wide and for a brief moment, they locked eyes with one another. She noticed that he had blue eyes. No one in the Northern Kingdom had blue eyes, but her curiosity quickly turned to fear.

She opened her mouth ready to scream but the man in black lunges forward, knocking her onto the bed as his hand slides over her mouth. She could feel the weight of his body pressing down on top of hers, and with his hands resting on her breasts, a blush crept up on her face. She tries to adjust her body to move his hands but could hardly move under his weight. Strength was something that Yuliah always lacked.

He brings his head right up to her face and next to her ear. She could feel his breath beating slightly onto the side of her face.

"Your Father, General Wey sent me. If you want to get out of here, do exactly as I say," with a low and non-threatening voice. After listening to General Wey and Zehan's plans back at the Gentlemen's Parlor. He decided it was best to have him come instead. He was the only one who had the skills and ability to break into Biah Manor without getting caught.

Hearing his words Yuliah nods her head. She was desperate to leave, and so she trusted him without asking any questions.

"Leave the veil and your shoes behind. They'll make too much noise. We need to move quickly and quietly. Do you understand?" He speaks again in that same low tone.

Yuliah nods her head one more time.

"We'll have to go through the window, but I'll carry you, just hold on tightly," he instructs her.

With his body still pinned on top of her, Yuliah could smell his breath and scent. It had a sweet alluring smell to it. She didn't know a Man could smell this nice and started to wonder what he looked like under his mask.

He could see she was distracted from the detached look in her eyes and knew her mind was somewhere else, "Hey!" He slightly nudges her. "Did you hear me?"

Feeling embarrassed, "Yes I did," Yuliah responds in a whisper.

"Now let's," but before he could finish his sentence, Liang is heard screaming down the halls.

"Yuliah! Yuliah!" Liang screams.

The man in black quickly gets up reaching for Yuliah's hand. He pulls her up and off the bed and then with her hand in his, they dash towards the window.

Yuliah was still wearing her shoes and headpiece and remembering what he told her earlier. She lets go of his hand and quickly reaches for the veil throwing it roughly onto the ground, breaking some of the pearls that strung together as they scatter across the floor. She then proceeds to try and kick her shoes off and starts trailing behind him.

"Hurry!" he calls out to her with one hand reaching out for hers as he sits perched on the window cell.

Yuliah finally manages to get one shoe off by the time she reaches the window but before she could get the other shoe off. She feels a shocking pain on the bottom of her foot. Yuliah stepped on the pearls scattered on the ground and her foot twists as she trips falling forward rapidly into the Man in black, pushing him right out of the window. From behind her Liang comes bursting through the doors.
