14 Purpose Addiction 3
My trip to Mars was halted by the Fortuna about to ram into me head-on. I forgot that she was going to me. She was quite armed to the teeth. Wearing an exoskeleton that I didn't know she has on her. She was holding on to a laser rifle that was still smoking hot. The gaze of Captain seems awfully cold as she looks at the Carnifex.
"Going in?" she asks.
"What's with the look?"
"I want to murder them, Nix."
She was calling me by name. Something awful was stirring my insides. It was the primal fear of someone who has personally seen someone fight like a madwoman. Captain's originally a stoic looking woman but now she has this fearsome aura that made me realize how deadly it was to face the Captain. Maybe it was the intimidating aura or the cold look on her face?
"Get in, Nix Villa. I want to murder those folks first before we go to Sister Olga and Katia."
I nodded my head. The Carnifex entered the hull of the Fortuna. I then made my way inside until I saw Captain holding the laser rifle while looking at the screen. The captain seems like she would shoot up the Fortuna so I gently clawed the laser rifle away from her, ejected the exoskeleton out of her body. The captain let me assist her in taking a seat. "Did they do something you, Regina?"
She looked at me. Trigger finger itching, eyes cold as hell. Those brows of hers sharpened. I took a step back and sat opposite of her. She was doing her air rifle thing. She was agitated and I think she wants to murder an entire school of arachnids or the poor bastards that made her this way. The Fortuna heated up. I could tell that we are exiting the atmosphere that sustains the whole of Ganymede. Saw the fleets of the Armies of Man going to the next galaxy to finish the arachnid aliens that terrorizes the whole human verse.
Captain still looks triggered. I took the time to gesture for her to calm down. "So what happened?" She eyed me and smacked her lips. She wiggled her head for a while before taking a deep long breath and locking eyes with me.
"Remember that apartment? Stan and Major Tom entered and tried to take the Fortuna back. I didn't want to ruin the apartment so I let them near the warehouse and tried to kill them. Unfortunately, they brought a company of mercenaries and tried to kill me. I killed half of them and rammed the ship. I then continued chasing after them, telling them that I need to know where Stan and that Major Tom is. So when you were looking for your bounty, I accidentally murdered an entire company of corporation guys that wanted the same thing. Katia and Olga said that they tried doing the same thing to them, but got out of it because of a favor they owe them."
"Are you fucking serious?"
"Death's ground serious."
"Can you show footage?"
She showed me footage pulled from the PDA. Stan and the Major Tom motherfucker waltzed in inside the apartment and stomped all over as if they were kings. Captain was playing with her PDA and followed her until they reached the warehouse where Captain broke Stan and Major Tom's nose with finesse. She then disabled an exoskeleton mercenary and started her rampage until those who have brains started to flee from the Captain. I mean there's no better place to train your battle senses in a field of corpses where giant arachnids shooting cobwebs made of acid that's faster than the speed of sound. Wrecking these fools is like child's play for the Captain who suffered the hellish battlefields where one mistake could kill her. I mean come on they should know that Regina Doll's the woman who saved multiple warships and slaughtered an army of Arachnids in her service as a soldier.
I don't know if they are stupid or they were high. Captain Regina might look like the stoic woman that's a role model and a hero for some. But she's nothing but a bloodthirsty soldier who could kill a ship of children. She's that jaded and they expect her to be merciful when they tried to fuck her over? These guys have issues on their heads and I pity them for placing themselves in the list of things that Regina Doll wants to kill badly.
"Okay calm down Captain?" I said. The captain is this figure you'd think that she's strong. But sometimes when she thinks that I am asleep, I could see Captain listening to a lullaby that seems to be sung by a gentle voice. It mentioned her name so I assume that she is Captain Regina's mother. Under that moonlight, she was listening to that recording. The cold-blooded stoic warrior was sulking like a child as she listens to that recording. I hate and like the Captain but I think she's still human.
"I am calm?" said Captain.
"You are," I know she is calm. But that look of tranquil fury is absolutely scaring me. "Captain, how about we meet with the folks on Mars first before exacting revenge upon those fuckers?"
"It's easy to kill them?"
"No, no, that would be too much, Captain," I said. "Let's think about this like good adults right? You are a good girly doll and right now killing should not be done no matter how much I agree with you."
She widened her eyes, "Girly Doll?" along with that slight reddish tint on her cheeks. Must be the blood right?
"Ah," I stuttered a bit. "I think it meant a reasonably calm woman?"
"Oh."
Her face stilled. Did I fuck up?
"As your aide and your partner," I emphasized on the partner part. "I advise you to please stay calm. Let us have Henry Jims and the Twins work with us, yes? They should be hunted by those folks too. I mean I know that you are really good at what you do, Captain. But I am not that good when it comes to fighting a Corporation that spans an entire Galaxy. We need to compromise and make this less harsh on ourselves. Is that okay, Captain?"
"Fine…"
She pouted at me. I could not take it anymore. My heart was telling to me just say the words that have been bottled inside me. If I don't say it now then I won't be able to say it again. She was angry a few seconds ago but I still need to know. I don't even care if she gets mad again.
"Captain, what made you this way?"
"What do you mean?"
"You have this calm fury on you. And I haven't seen you really scared or anything like that. Did something happen that made you this way?"
She looked at me, "I don't know. All I know is that somewhere along the line I just stopped on thinking about things I could not control. I began to focus on what's in front of me instead of thinking too much. When I left Earth I planned to become an officer but instead got recruited in the army. I never wanted to become like this. I don't even know if I can face my mother's grave like this. You should understand this. I could have applied for an officer's position. Stamping papers and wasting my time away."
She looked at the rifle in my hands. "But that thing comforts me. It's something I cannot run away from. I've been used to such fighting that it does not bother me. You were disappointed that I could easily kill those people back in the megaships."
She hit a nail in the heart. She looked at me with such flickering eyes. I felt like I took a nail and hammered it on the Captain's heart. But I stood firm on my hypocritical belief that what she did was wrong. I've seen blood and people in front of isn't new.
"I do. I really am," I drew in oxygen inside my lungs. "What you did bother me. It made me question if I want to work with you. I hated you because of it."
"Then you really hate me? Is it to the point that you want to kill me?"
I shook my head, "No, you saved me from that field of corpses. Without you, I wouldn't felt this free ever since I was born."
"I don't understand."
Captain said. I folded my arms and looked at the distant sun near Earth. It was still as bright as ever. It was like a lighthouse for everyone here in this solar system.
"I don't understand either."
She looked at me with worry for the first time I've been with Captain. It was quite different that it made me wonder if this was still the same Captain.
"I am sorry," said Captain. "Ever since fighting I've always aimed for the survival of many. I once thought I could save everyone once but I learned a harsh lesson for thinking that. I cannot say that this thought would ever change. That somehow I would think anything less. You know that in this universe. There's no such thing as perfect. I don't think I can change what I am."
"I know," I said. "Captain, I admit that I hate that part of you. I hate that line of thinking. I am a hypocrite that's fine seeing people die and would rage over a kid or a dog dying. But I want you to know that I still like and respect the Captain that saved me from that hell. But isn't that fine? What kind of friend would like everything about their friends? I prefer it when my friends stab me in the front. Not in the back. I don't want to act fake on people who think they can hide what they are. I may hate that part of you but you are my friend and partner. We are together since we want to find purpose by working with each other. Being a soldier gave us a goal but not a purpose. And because of that addiction for a purpose that I am following you in this search for something that will give us a purpose."
She looked at me, "Nix, did anyone tell you that you can be wordy sometimes?"
"I am serious though?"
"I know. Still, I don't hate this part of you. You really are a good aide. I didn't pick wrong it seems."
"I am glad to know that your horny bastard."
"Horny bastard?" she sucked in breathe. "I was only managing that site!? I want to earn money from it not scratch an itch."
"Yeah, says the girl who has a harem of men and women in her VR environment."
Her face grew coldly still, "I hate this blunt part of you. Is this what you wanted?"
"Damn right," I snapped. "Don't act like a goody two shoes in front of me when you can be as brutal as a demon. It does not suit you, my Captain!"
"Go to hell you impotent bastard!"
"I can say the same you cold-blooded woman!"
"So you want me to hate you that much?" She suddenly planted a kick on my stomach. I replied with a push of her shoulder. We started hitting each other until I could feel my body aching with her punches. Her augmentations are really fucking good and I can understand why she's so strong. It took us a few punches and kick to settle down. Our hairs were disheveled and her mouth had a cut.
"Fucking hell," she spat. "Are you satisfied now you piece of shit? Or do you want me to beat you up?"
I raised my hand in surrender. I think that was enough venting. She'll probably break my limbs if I continued acting like this again.
"Fine, that's fine. I got a hit and I am satisfied. I am glad to know that my partner in crime is a human not some kind of monster."
She nodded at me, "Same here. I am relieved that my partner isn't a bitch either. Glad to know he can punch a woman if he needs to. Though I think it was your fault for looking like shit now."
I could tell that I was smacked hard by her. "Fine, you win, Captain."
She smiled at me like a damn kid as she punches with her right hand. I replied and bumped my fist at hers. Damn, she can be really cheeky at times like this.
"Going in?" she asks.
"What's with the look?"
"I want to murder them, Nix."
