127 Joker 1
Evening came and after a few hours of socializing with their new squad, May and Taf decided they would take a further tour of the sect.
They had asked Niesha about the whereabouts of two individuals they had lost the previous contact with, both Lisa Paldon and Damian. These were the other two recruits from Marvel City.
Though they couldn't be deemed even acquaintances by any stretch of the imagination, they weren't averse to the idea of checking in on them. This might stem from them having similar backgrounds in a strange new environment.
Soon before them, they saw living quarters that a pig would look at in disdain while referring to them as utter squaller. It was a complete contrast to their pristine living conditions with spacious homes, beautiful courtyards and brick-laden roads.
Here the living quarters were made with untreated wood shown by the slight signs of termite infestation. Each boarding would be a small room in any of their manors, yet it housed upwards of six occupants.
As they walked the roads were muddy with small puddles of settled water, making it a hindrance for those who had to traverse its terrain frequently.
Before arriving May and Taf were expecting inferior living conditions but not to this extent. This brought Taf's mind back to the time before he had met old man Ming.
The cold nights taking refuge from the rain under an abandoned merchant's stall. Hearing the rain clattering against the zinc roofing while watching everyone hurrying to their dry cozy homes. Being looked at with scorn by the passers-by in the morning as he shivered in his clothes that had been dirtied with mud.
" If you truly want to see the face of the world, see it through the eyes of an outcast. I really hated their stares that made me feel less than human.
I envied those kids that called out mom and dad, I pitied that being I saw when I looked in the mirror. He was so puny and scrawny, dirty from head to toe, could he be loved? Was he deserving of a home? he too wanted to be embraced when he fell and bled.
Am I too not destined to have the smallest of blessing? Since you will not give me, then I will take it. I'll persevere, then you will all see me and know that I exist and I am of significance.."
For a moment Taf felt his chest ache as he had a momentary flashback to his past self.
" What's wrong, are you feeling well?"
May suddenly asked after noticing an odd expression on his face...
" It's nothing, I'm fine. Let's go see what those two have been up to. I have a feeling it will be quite difficult finding them.."
Taf smiled while responding to May as he was brought back to the present time. By the look on her face, May didn't seem to believe him and was still slightly worried...
" All is well I assure you.."
He dragged her hand pulling her along playfully as they walked...
On the roads, they saw persons walking about in their sect attire. They did not wear the traditional colors of black and purple. All wore grey that was quite bland in comparison, this clothing was worn by sect members with less than favorable affinities.
These members potential might be estimated to arrive at the 5th or 6th stage qi condensation the most. Which was sadly the category both Lisa and Damian fell in.
" Now it all made sense why anonymous corpse number one associated with mortals. He was looked down and belittled in his sect but when amongst mortals he was akin to that of a god.
I had a hint that was the case but seeing it now has made it a clear. Why live in squaller when kingship awaits huh?
Why then did these sect members lower themselves to this extent? Maybe they initially expected more and have aspirations to rise above their circumstances going against fate.
It might also simply be that they are too ashamed to return to their towns and villages after leaving with such hope and promise."
The thought crossed Taf's mind as he sensed the feeble qi that was being emitted from all those that wore grey. As the two walked they received envious stares from each and everyone that saw them.
There was also slight fear as they quickly ensured that their gazes did not linger too long. It can be seen that they did not receive favorable treatment from those who wore similar clothing in the past.
Soon they saw others dressed in purple and black such as themselves. They were a group containing both males and females.
A youth whose face was riddled with ache was seemingly the lead as all laughed at the words he spoke. Find authorized novels in Webnovel, faster updates, better experience,Please click www.webnovel.com for visiting.
" The last sparring partner I acquired from these parts I expected to be disappointing but not to such an extent. I gave him 10 lqs for two measle minutes, One kick the next second he was on the ground crying that his innards hurt.
This bastard was in his mid 20's and at the 4th stage, I've taken shits with more dexterity than that fool."
After he spoke a chorus of laughter was heard from his audience...
" So surely you were reimbursed..."
One of the females who was somewhat short joked...
" Nah, I ensured to get every bit worth out of my payment. I kicked him around on the floor. Looked at my tiles they had never been cleaner. I didn't get an adequate sparring partner but I now know the remedy to acquire sparkling tiles."
They once more burst out into laughter as all who wore grey hurried on to their duties in slight fear they would gain unnecessary attention.
" I've always been envious of those tiles of yours and wondered what was the secret, so now all has been exposed..."
The girl of short stature voice once more was heard...
" Shhh, I haven't patented it as of yet, I'm thinking of calling it Shaun's easy floor and tile stain remover. Let's say it's a work in progress..."
