37 Handle this girl

Yoru quietly set down Yi Lan at her destination. 'So small and yet so smart.' Yi Lan sniffed mentally, her heart burning. Her little brother was a lot more smart than she had been at his age.

"Alright then, I'll be going from here on. See ya!" She waved her hand.

"Wait! Big sister, here." He caressed back her soft hair with his hand and clipped a small clip with jasmine flowers on it. It enhanced the beauty of her silver hair, making Yoru have a strong yearning to kiss it.

But he held back. Because this person in front of him was not his Big Sister. She was equal to a stranger. All that he was doing right now, was only to avoid suspicion.

Or so he told himself.

Meanwhile, Yi Lan's pink lips widened slightly as she touched the soft petals of the flower, theor delightful fragrance making her sniff contently. Jasmine had always managed to calm her. Only purity could snuff out her darkness. If only it was that simple...

Shaking off her depressing thoughts, she patted Yoru's head, and said "Thank you for the gift."

Yoru grinned, showing his pearly white teeth and disappeared in the blink of an eye. He had left Yi Lan in a daze, staring at the spot where he had been, even after he was long gone. The feeling in her heart was no different than how she had felt years ago. It made her happy, satisfied and scared.

Humming a tune, she turned on her heels and reached the place she was supposed to.

Wondering about useless things won't benefit her. Yi Lan already knew, a person hated by life itself, hardly had any chances of being happy. But she was different. Instead of mulling over the past, she wanted to live in the present.

No matter how appalling her inner monsters were, they were a part of her. And she had accepted them. They were her identity, her support and her demise.

Yi Lan ran a hand through her hair as she reached the place she was supposed to arrive at. A huge mansion stood tall in front of her, with beautiful engravings and light colours. It was decorated all over with roses and white flowers.

Her eyes became disinterested almost immediately, "A wedding, huh?"

Yi Lan hated socialising. It was one of the things she was extremely bad at. She would snap, laugh and be sarcastic, but polite was a foreign term to her.

Grumbling, she entered the hall, and took in a breath of the unpleasant smell of roses. To others, it may seem really good, but Yi Lan detested roses.

Why? She herself didn't know.

Her eyes immediately fell on a person standing on the middle of the floor. Dressed in a stunning red wedding dress that was embroidered in gold and white, her pale white skin glowed like the moon, and a covering veil on her head, she stood out amongst the flood of the people.

Even though she detested weddings, Lan couldn't help but admire the beauty of the bride.

It looked like the person she was supposed to accompany, was the bride, on her journey to the groom's house. 'Maybe this won't be that boring.' mused Yi Lan seeing the bride's slightly exasperated expression.

She introduced herself, making her the centre of attraction of all the people there. The bride merely gave an uninterested stare and nodded at Yi Lan.

She looked impatient, impatient to get married. Yi Lan understood that from her hands that kept fiddling with her hair and her leg that trembled at times.

Learning body language helped a lot.

Yi Lan whispered in the bride's ear, "Be patient. It's simply a ride more."

The bride, startled, looked at Yi Lan and gave her a small smile. She calmed down a little.

Yi Lan's mind now had this thought roaming in it, 'Will I ever be like her?' After a few moments, she shook her head, self-loathe filling her parts. 'There's no man who can handle this girl.' A smug smile rose on her lips.

Yes, she hated herself. But she loved herself too. She waa fabulous and she knew it.

The bride finally got into the carriage and Yi Lan, bored, stood beside the carriage. Like a normal procession, the carriage soon reached the groom's house, that was decorated similar to the bride's house.

The bride had a bright smile on her face, eyes shining with excitement. Yi Lan quirked up a side of her mouth in amusement.

'Young love.'

The thought made a bitter taste spread in her mouth, because as a teen, she had never fallen in love, or even had a crush.

They waited for a while, but no one came out from the groom's family. After a few minutes of confusion, Yi Lan took the initiative to walk inside the house and find out the problem.

The first thing she noticed was the pungent smell of blood.

Her breath caught as she saw a bloody mess in front of her. She whistled in surprise, "Well, well, well, what do we have here?"

Lying on the floor, were the bodies of the groom's family, all of them surrounded by a pool of blood, their heads cut off from their body.

Cautiously, Yi Lan stepped forward and opened the door that was most likely the groom's. As expected, a body wearing wedding attire, lay on the floor.

Yi Lan almost laughed as she saw the way he had been killed. His spinal cord had been ripped off from his back, tearing his skin like paper and had been broken off from the part where it connected to the skull.

Wild animal like scratches covered his entire body, and his face was missing an eye in it. What was left was an empty socket hole, staring back at Yi Lan.

She chuckled, "Whoever killed them seems to have a strong hatred towards him. Their killing style is quite similar to my own."

Meanwhile, more people had entered the house, and now everything was in chaos. They panicked and screamed in horror.

The bride trembled violently. Without caring about the others, she ran to the groom. Her legs gave away as she saw his broken back. Loud wails and sobs covered the entire house as a girl in love, wept in the loss of the man she loved.

Yi Lan won't deny. She felt bad for the bride.

But accepting reality is a must.

Besides, Yi Lan had a hunch that this matter wasn't over this easily.
