29 Would you believe

Earth, 2021

Yi Meng was taken to a private hospital, where she had been operated on by special surgeons, under Sora's instructions. When her wounds had been stitched up, and she had rested enough, Sora, Haru and Momo came to visit her.

Momo was in tears as he looked at Meng's pale face. Haru wasn't crying, but his eyes showed his sadness and worry for his mother. Sora held Meng's cold hands in his warm ones, concerned about her strange behaviour. She hadn't spoken once since she was taken away.

She simply kept silent, as if thinking about something. "Sora." She whispered in a hoarse voice. "Take the children away. I have something to tell you." With a small smile, she patted both the boys' head and closed her eyes.

Sora led the boys out, telling them to be good. He closed the door behind him silently after entering. Taking a seat beside her, he once again held her hand.

Meng weakly opened her eyes. "Sora, there's something I haven't told you. You have something to tell me too. How about you tell me first?"

His eyes dulled, as if reminiscing heart breaking moments. He stroked her palm and spoke "Meng'er, you may not remember this, but ten years ago, you were taken in by the Black Assasins. Along with you, were your friends from the orphanage you came from. I heard that the scientists only took children suitable for their experiment, and the rest... were burnt alive. Among all the survivors, you were the only one who didn't cry or respond on seeing the orphanage burn. The scientists noticed."

He peeked a look at her, but her face was still impassive, pale from excessive blood loss.

"You weren't the first experiment, but were titled as the best one. The reason being your body's strange constitution. You had a heart disease, that no one had heard about, but your body's tenacity was impeccable. No matter what the scientists gave you, you were able to take it silently. When physical torture didn't work, mental torture started. But what you didn't know, was that Black List, wasn't made to defeat the monster."

Meng's hands trembled slightly. Sora looked up to see her shocked. He clasped her hand tightly." Continue." She said hoarsely.

"The monster was in fact, made purposely by them. They never wanted to defeat it. Their main goal was-to create blood sacrifices."

Eyes swirled with rage, as he continued speaking. "I do not know why they wanted blood sacrifices, but they certainly were no saints. What of defeating the monster?!" He laughed ironically. "They were the ones who created it. All the murders they did, experimenting on children, making them strong.... All for the sake of having better blood sacrifices. I was no exception. Test subject no. 1- The son of the main physician of the entire Black List."

Sorrowful eyes met Meng's purple ones. He slid his shirt down, enough for her to see multiple scars and a black coloured tattoo of the number 1 on it.

Her hands traced the tattoo, her face seeming more pale than before." How could he... To his own son."

She buried her head in his shoulder.

"I was the second best Subject. But both of us couldn't develop latent abilities. So Zuo got an idea. He wanted to make a baby with both of our's genes."

Meng's head jerked up in shock, eyes widened. "You mean?"

He nodded.

"Yes, Haru is our son. You had overheard the fact that they were going to use our genes to make a baby. They already had the gametes. With the help of modern machines, it wasn't hard to have a test tube baby. At that point, you didn't want the child to have the same fate as you. You could have escaped, but if you did, you're friends would be killed by them. So, you decided to rescue me. That day, you handed over the baby to me and made me run away. It wasn't easy. Mad with anger, Zuo killed almost half your friends in front of you."

Meng's shoulders shook as she clutched on his shoulders. Parts of Lan's memories were still not clear to her. She had tried hypnotism again, but it hadn't worked. It felt as if someone had sealed them.

"I ran away with the baby. The scientists though the baby couldn't survive and so the experiment was called a fail. Honestly, I would have rescued you as soon as I could, but there was one thing that remained clear in my memory. The monster the scientists had created, was only one, but there were three more monsters like that. Having no choice, I had to increase my strength and kill them." Sora stroked Meng's back.

Meng gasped. She remembered that Lan had a lot of problems facing the monster on her own. But Sora had faced three of them on his own.

"When I finished doing that, I returned, only to see the lab blown to ashes. I was happy. Happy that you were safe, but sad because I couldn't save you. For years I searched for you. When I finally found you, you were hit by my car. I made the excuse of my car to marry you, because I knew that Zuo was still alive. He wouldn't die before killing you. I already explained this to your brother and sister. They were reluctant, but agreed. They knew I had more power than both of them combined to protect you. Haru knew the moment he saw you, that you were his mother. He had his bloodline recognising ability. I was so glad to see you're alive." Tears clung to his eyes as he embraced her.

Meng's heart squeezed as she knew, that the person he was talking about, hadn't been her, but Yi Lan. "Sora..."

He made a 'Mm' sound.

"About that, I'm not Yi Lan." Her voice shook slightly.

"I know,you're a split personality."

"No. I'm not her split personality." She pushed him away.

His eyes darkened. "What do you mean?"

Meng's eyes had a strange look, as if they belonged to another world. "Would you believe me if I said that I was a reincarnated person in Yi Lan's body?" Her soft voice rang slowly through the room.

Sora's body jerked. His eyes closed as he stayed quiet.

"I knew it." She laughed bitterly. "How's could you possibly-"

"I do."

"Eh? You...do?" His words caught her off-guard.

He nodded. "This sounds fairy talish like, but I do believe you. Yi Meng, you may not be Yi Lan, but my feelings for you are real." He clasped her hand.

She snatched it back saying, "No. You're just saying that because you love Yi Lan."

"I'm not. At the most, I grateful to her for saving me, but my feelings for you are totally different." He lovingly held her cheek. "Yi Meng, the time we spent together was less, but that much was enough for me to fall in love with you."

Meng's heart leaped and her hand immediately went to her mouth. "You're lying, right?" Her voice broke.

He sighed and kissed her forehead. "Nope. Yi Meng, in my life, you're my first love, my first wife, my first kiss, and my first child's only mother. And you'll continue to have all my firsts. We have two children, live in the same house, we're close but far at the same time. My only wish is for us to close the gap. Yi Meng, will you marry me?" He kissed her hand.

Tears flowed out from her eyes. In a shaky voice, she asked "Do you promise to never leave me?"

He smiled. "I'll be together with you, even after death. It's my promise to you."

"Then, Yes! " She cried out and kissed him, both their tears mingling with each other.

Yi Meng had long fallen for him. It may seem clichéd, but ever since her parents died, she ached for having someone love her. In the past few years, Sora had tender to her needs, taken care of her when she was sick, and never even gazed at another woman.

"Sora, you're aware?"

"I am. I know the doctors said that there's no cure for the disease, but I don't agree. I will find a cure. I won't let you die." A determined look flashed on his face, making Meng laugh.

"Sora, I love you." She planted another kiss on his lips.

"I love you too." He whispered back.

Their story was just starting and they still had a lot of problems. But they didn't give up. In the future, they'll look back in this day and laugh at the nostalgic memory.
