27 Humans are selfish creatures

Earth, 2021(Three years later)

It had been three years since Yi Meng had started going to school. Each day stretched long, making Meng tired. Her only comforts were the two cute little boys at her new home.

Surprisingly, Sora hadn't objected to Meng bringing Momo back home. He even filed in the adoption certificate in three days, making Momo their legal child.

Needless to say, Haru was delighted. His eyes sparkled like gems and he peppered Meng's faces with kisses. Meng's blank face was slowly showing more emotions. The only thing that bothered her, was Sora.

He was gentle with her, to the extent of Meng feeling scared. She wasn't accustomed to such gentleness, especially from a man not of her family. He only had eyes for her, and didn't even glance at other women. By profession, he was a business man, but it wasn't as simple as it seemed. Yi Meng had noticed that the clients that Sora had, were not business men, and were actually common people.

Her curiosity increased day after day. She wanted to spy on him, but he was too diligent. He noticed her, but didn't call her out and acted normally. 'It's like he's not worried about me finding out at all.' She thought. But subconsciously, she had begun to trust Sora and relied in him. He even took her out on dates. A part of Meng had already started liking him.

Though there were a lot of matters to handle, Meng hadn't forgotten about Black List Victims Organisation. Occasionally, she left the house to visit HQ, where she was once again trained. She wasn't assigned any missions as of now.

Her schedule was cramped, leaving her almost no time to spend with her two cuties. Aside from BLVO, she also had pursue Lan's former dream.

Yi Lan didn't look like it, but she had wanted to be a doctor. She had suffered from a rare heart disease when she was barely three years old, making her lack many childhood experiences. But the children in the orphanage were great friends. They always managed to cheer up their sullen Big sister.

She wasn't the only one with an illness. Another boy also had an illness. Lan was forced to watch as his illness spread rapidly making him scream and cry in pain. The orphanage barely had enough money to support him. As expected, he passed away, leaving a scar on young Lan's mind. She became determined to be a doctor not wanting anyone else of their orphanage to feel the agony he had gone through. Even though she might not live long enough, she still wanted to try her best. Unfortunately, in the end, Lan was the one who survived, and they were the ones who ceased to exist.

This cruel change of fate, shattered her dreams, making her give away the hope of becoming a doctor. Instead, she became a person who took lives, than saving them. But, Meng knew that deep down, Lan still wished to become a doctor. After all, Lan had studied different methods of medicine-the ancient methods and the modern ones. She was proficient in using needles and giving acupuncture therapy.

Of course, when someone asked her about it, she would deny saying that she was just passing time. What she claimed wasn't exactly false either. As an important test subject, she had been given knowledge about a lot of things and as a result, she was skilled in all professions- be it making weapons, killing or treating someone.

Yi Meng, may seem cold, but she had no wish of killing anyone easily. She leaned more on the idea of saving lives.

Once, when Sora asked her why she jad wanted to become a doctor, she replied "Humans are selfish creatures. They do everything they can to survive, because for them, first comes their life and then others."

Sora had given a quizzical look at her reply, but didn't ask her to elaborate.

Meng knew better than anyone else why she had said that. Her reason for becoming a doctor, not only considered Lan's dream, but also Meng's selfish desire to live. More than anything, she wanted a chance to live, without the restraint of illness. This would only be possible, if she were to become a doctor.

Now, Meng was already in a medical college. Kira had taken admission in a fashion arts college nearby. His parents, who had originally been against it, agreed when Meng and Ling Yao had a talk with them.

Yes, Ling Yao.

An unexpected twist, made Meng gigle when she remembered the awkward moment she had witnessed two years ago. She, along with her two cute boys, had decided to have lunch at a restaurant. To her surprise, she saw Ling Yao and Kira sitting at a table, that too... holding hands.

Kira flushed deeply in colour on seeing Meng gape at them. The two little cuties looked at them with big, curious eyes. Ling Yao didn't show much reaction, except for giving a small smirk, as if saying 'Look, I caught the fish.'

He didn't budge when Kira tried to take back his hand. The previously cool Kira, was reduced to blushing and blubbering mess.

Nevertheless, Meng gave them her good wishes and winked at Kira, her actions relaying 'Go get that butt.'

A slightly confused Haru asked Meng, tugging on her top, "Mama, why are they both holding hands?"

Meng said with an amused smile, "Because they love each other."

"But that day, when I and Haru-chan were holding hands, you told me that two boys can't hold hands? Aren't they both boys too?" Momo asked, puffing out his chubby cheeks.

Meng coughed, glad that Kira and Ling Yao had already left. She couldn't possibly explain the situation to them. The only reason why she had said that fact to the two small boys, was because they were too young.

"That's because their older and they're in love with each other. Which means, one day they'll marry each other." Meng ruffled both of the boys' hair.

She then turned to pay the bill.

Haru turned towards Momo, who was biting his small lips, thinking about something. "Momo." He whispered.

"What's up Haru-chan?" Momo whispered back, his face slightly red on seeing Haru's face too close to him.

"Let's make a promise."

"Of what?" Momo blinked his clear eyes in confusion, making Haru feel warm inside.

"Let's make a promise to get married when we're older." Haru said excited.

"Eh? But Haru-chan, I'm not a girl." Momo's face grew more red.

"Mama said it right? We can get married too."

"But... Why me? I'm sure there a lot of girls who'll be ready to marry you." Even though he himself had suggested it, Momo's eyes grew dull.

Haru pinched Momo's soft cheek, making him yelp in surprise. "They won't do. After all, the one I love the most after Mama and Papa is Momo."

Momo's eyes grew wide and his hand trembled.

"So, Momo. Will you promise to be my bride?" Haru clasped Momo's hand and kissed it just the way he had seen Sora kissing Meng's.

Momo's lips quivered as he said with a huge smile, "I promise Haru-chan."

Haru laughed and sneakily gave Momo a kiss on his powdery soft cheek, making his whole face as red as a tomato.

"Momo is still the cutest." Haru grinned.

Poor Meng, hadn't noticed these events. In the future, she would probably blame herself.

And then, two years later.

One day, Meng had dropped the both of them to school. Haru and Momo quickly ran off to class. A few of their friends gathered around them, greeting them a good morning.

Momo greeted everyone back with a smile. "Umm.. Momo-chan, here. This is a flower that I picked, I wanted Momo-chan to wear it." A blushing girl, named Shao May said, handing over a daisy.

Momo accepted the flower, with a look of wonder on his face. "Thank you~. It's so pretty! But I don't have anything to clip it on with." He pouted.

"If you want, I can clip it for you." She said fidgeting.

"Really?! You're so nice!" Momo laughed.

Shao May beamed and clipped on the daisy. Everyone praised Momo, except for Haru. He stood beside Momo with a frown on his face. It felt as if his insides were burning. He had a strange impulse to tear off the daisy from Momo's hair and crumple it.

And that was just what he did after class had ended and their break started. "Haru-chan? Why did you do that to my daisy?! You meanie!" Momo looked at Haru with tears clinging to his eyelashes.

"Momo... I'm sorry, but I didn't want you to wear that dirty flower." Haru said in a down voice.

"Dirty? That flower was so pretty! Why do you say so?"

"Because.... I don't like you wearing something given by that girl." Haru glared at Shao May who was eating her lunch, unaware of the boy's hateful gaze.

Momo followed his gaze and a look of understanding came on his face. "Haru-chan. Were you.... jealous?" He asked shyly.

Haru was silent for a while, before he nodded, blushing slightly.

Momo gave a small laugh, making Haru blush more. Momo felt glad that he wasn't the only one jealous. There were very few situations since Haru had asked Momo to be his bride, where Haru had shown his feelings towards Momo again.

"Haru-chan, I'll only take your gifts, so you don't have to worry anymore." He gave a close-eyed smile, making Haru want to grab his face and kiss his cheeks.

But he could not do it in front of everyone, so he restrained himself to pinching Momo's cheeks. "Idiot Momo. I know already." He grumbled.

When all their classes had ended, play time was still left. A shy Shao May asked Momo about the flower. Momo said with a smile that the flower had fallen down, rescuing Haru from feeling awkward.

The kids all gathered up to gossip in a certain place away from the teachers.

"Do you know? My elder sister got herself a boyfriend and she's showing him off." A popular girl sneered.

An innocent girl asked, "What's a boyfriend?"

"Heh? You don't know? It's a term for a boy who's your lover." The popular girl said with a smirk.

One of the boys said, "I've heard that lovers do a lot of things together."

"Like what?" Momo asked.

The popular girl leaned forward and whispered "Like kissing."

Another boy scoffed. "What's so great about that? Haven't we all done that?"

"You must've done it on the cheek. Have you done it with your lips?" A girl asked.

"Lips?"

"Yep, I saw my sister kissing her boyfriend on his lips. She let out some weird noises when they were kissing. I think I even saw their tongues." The girl said.

"Has anyone here ever had their first kiss?" The popular girl asked, "I've had it."

"With whom?" A boy, who had a crush on her asked.

"With a boy from another school." She giggled.

Another boy spoke up. "Actually, so have I."

"But I heard my Mom saying that we're only ten, and are too young to think about kissing." A girl spoke up shyly.

"That's what everyone says, but they've done it too." A girl said.

"How does it feel? To kiss?" Haru asked.

A boy answered, "It wasn't bad."

Some nodded in agreement.

The rest of the time was spent in gossiping other things. Both Momo and Haru were in deep thought.

Play time ended and soon, the parents came to pick up the kids. Haru and Momo were also picked up by Sora.

That night, there was a thunderstorm. Both Sora and Meng were in deep sleep. In another room, Momo and Haru were wide awake.

Momo was trembling as he heard the thunder rolling, tears rolling down his face. A worried Haru wrapped his arms around a warm Momo, squeezing him tightly. Momo gasped, but buried his head in Haru's shoulder.

His trembling increased as lightning made the sky light up like a firework. "Momo, calm down. I'm here." Haru spoke in Momo's ear, his warm breath, making Momo's ear tickle.

"Haru-chan. I'm scared." Momo whispered.

Haru's hands tightened around Momo's waist. He pulled Momo up, such that Momo was leaning totally over Haru, his head under Haru's chin.

This embrace, made Momo feel safe. His trembling finally came to an end.

A comfortable silence took over, until Momo spoke, "Ne, Haru-chan. How do you think it feels to kiss?"

"... I don't know. I haven't tried."

"Haru-chan. Do you remember our promise from two years ago?" Momo said in a small voice.

"Mmmm...I do."

"Haru-chan. It's fine, even if you want to break it. I know Haru-chan would like to kiss a girl more than a boy like me. So, it's fine. You don't have to pamper me like you do. I-"

He was cut off, when a pair of warm lips landed on his own. The soft feeling, made Momo tug Haru closer. His hands clasped Haru's.

It only lasted for three to four seconds, but it felt like eternity to Momo.

"Do you not love me?" Haru asked, his voice dark.

"Huh?" Momo looked up at Haru, his eyes sad.

"Do you not love me?" Haru asked again, gazing into his eyes.

"... I do." Momo said.

"Then why? Two years ago, I was serious. And two years later, I'll still be serious. I only want Momo as my bride. I'll give my first kiss and my everything only to Momo." Haru said embracing Momo.

Momo's heart shook. Tears flowed out of his eyes and he nodded. Both faced each other once again. Hesitantly, they moved forward, and their lips touched once again. Clumsily, they kissed again, yearning for each other's comfort. They were still children, but love had no age limits.

The night was spent with the couple embracing each other. They didn't go any further than touching their lips to one another's. After all, they had a whole life time to explore new things.
