2 On the Hun
It was nightfall in the Dark forest, the wind was howling. Other than the trees that were swaying, the forest was completely still. The only sounds that could be heard were of the branches or twigs, twisting and breaking under force of the powerful gusts of wind.
At this moment in a small crater, a young boy with flame colored hair and golden brown eyes was sitting in a meditative position. About 4 feet in front of him, also resting was a large green serpent. The snake was more than 3 feet in width, with a length of over 12 feet. Suddenly the boy stood up.
''Hey Emera, are you ready to go find some dinner? I'm starving.'' The boy stated while looking at the snake, rubbing his belly in a circular motion.
The snake opened its' eyes slightly uncoiling, it answered. ''Yes Oren.''
The boy smiled, when he heard the serpents voice in his head. ''So, which direction are we headed?'' He spoke, stretching his arms and legs.
The snake looked up into the night sky. '' Well first, we need to get out of this hole."
Oren looked at the Snake attentively. ''Ok, then what?''
The serpent loosened up a bit as it looked at Oren.
''If we go east towards the mountains, we should arrive at a nesting area for plenty of creatures. We might, even run into some nocturnal beasts that are also hunting. However, if we go west towards the river we would run in to multiple aquatic creatures and....Wait can you swim?''
The snake looked at Oren while speaking as if it suddenly had a thought.
''Yes I can swim but..... I HATE WATER!''
''Okay then.'' The Serpents voice continued, slightly chuckling. ''Then its best for us to head towards the mountain range. When we get close I will be able to sniff out the beasts that are at rest. You then can use your might to attack and kill them that should be fairly easy for you.''
Oren somewhat understood, what she was trying to say.
Even if, the serpent could take down its prey. If she tried to attack something too big or too powerful, she might have a hard fight. Almost every creature in the forest has some type of elemental ability, or some other strange power that it would use to defend itself from attackers. The snake could possibly lose causing it to lose out on a meal, or it may be too injured to hunt again. The creature might even manage to fatally wound Her.
''Ok'' Oren responded. Then He said. ''Hey Emera, I'm sorry about earlier when I attacked you. I really don't like to eat reptile creatures." His voice conveying a true apologetic tone.
"It was my mistake Oren." Emera looked at Oren suspiciously. ''If I hadn't tried to kill you back then, maybe you wouldn't have attacked me.''
''Alright then.. apology accepted.'' Oren laughed, after pausing for just a second. He really was only a child, He didn't hold grudges to deeply. ''Lets go!'' He shouted excitedly.
The duo zoomed out of the crevice. Immediately heading east, moving so fast they were blurs amongst the trees and brush.
''So how far is the mountains? I've never really left this area in hopes that.... nevermind.''
Oren stopped talking obviously depressed by his thoughts.
''The mountains are 20 miles east, we should make it there in few minutes given how fast we are.'' Emera quickly stated. Being an animal, she could sense emotions pretty well. she knew Oren had become saddened by something.
''So Oren, what are you? How can you be so fast while also possessing such tremendous strength, at such a young age?'' Emera asked, still trying to change the subject.
''Umm I don't know. I guess I'm just special, at least that's what my dad use to say before h..he left.''
Oren started to speak but his voice trembled slightly as he talked about his dad.
Quickly changing topic He said. ''What about you, how come you can talk? I've been in this forest for about 3 or 4 years, I have never spoken to any other creature before nor have I ever heard one speak to me."
Emera became prideful. ''I am, a fifth generation descendant of the Venom Dragon race. However it is strange, I have never communicated with a human before and I have never tried to, so I'm not sure. I may be special too. Hahaha...." She laughed haughtily.
As the pair were travelling, they were conversing about multiple things. Unknowingly, the unlikely team was actually becoming quite friendly toward one another.
They were about halfway to the mountain range, when Emera suddenly stopped.
''What is it?' Oren looked at her speaking cautiously, also halting.
She looked at Oren saying. ''Can you hear that?''
He straightened up, carefully listening.
''It sounds like.. People!" Oren exclaimed joyously, "and it sounds like, a girl is singing."
Oren had not seen another human in a while, yet He has never seen a girl in the dark forest before.
The reason for that being, He has never really wandered too far away from his 'area', where He had a small 'Den'. His dad had made it, in order for them to live in the in the forest.
Oren spoke ecstatically. "Wait here, I'll go check it out.'' Emera couldn't help but admire the young human, for his childish attitude. Although He was a 'little wild', He seemed untouched by the predator and prey cycle of the forest.
Oren quickly discerned where the sound was coming from. Stealthily, He moved in that direction. As He approached the sound, He made sure to maintain a good distance. He climbed a tall tree, in an attempt to get a better view. He looked in the direction of the sound, what he saw made his heart jump joyously. It really is humans, He thought to himself. In the distance, Oren could just barely make out two silhouettes at first glance they looked like females, a woman and a girl. He watched them for a few moments, listening to the girl sing. He almost seemed mesmerized. He then quickly returned to the spot where He left Emera.
When she noticed Oren, She frantically turned. ''We have to get outta here!''
''Why?'' Oren looked at her puzzled.
''Trouble is coming more humans from the sounds of them. I can sense a powerful aura, it is of a powerful dark type beast." Emera spoke as if she was a little scared. "They are either powerful hunters, or maybe even soldiers. One of them seems to have a dark-beast aura. Which means He is a beast-warrior. He is probably even stronger, than you. From my senses I am picking up three separate scents with a lingering smell of fresh human blood.''
''Mm....Okay, let us move around behind them and follow silently.'' Oren pondered a moment before responding.
''No need they will be passing by here any moment now. If we head upwards into the trees we should be able to see them, and maybe even launch a sneak attack.'' Emera voiced, deciding the plan.
''Ok'' Oren agreed, then 'Swoosh' the pair sped into the treetops.
"Oren, what did you see when you went to check out those sounds?'' Emera spoke to Oren.
''I saw two women. One was taller than the other, but I could only make out figures I couldn't see anything else from where I was. I think they are also hunters because they had bows and arrows.''
''Wait... shhh...quiet.'' Emera hastily interrupted.
''They are here'' She barely finished those words. When just like she said three figures suddenly appeared in the brush. One of them was a tall muscular man, he had a facefull of black hair and a bald head. While the other two were also muscular, they were almost a head shorter than the bald man. Both of them had blondish hair but one was clean shaven, he looked a bit more youthful than the other two. The other blonde haired man looked similar to him but slightly older, and he was sporting a thick mustache.
''Benny, I think I hear something go check it out.'' The tall man seemed like he was the leader
and was giving orders to the younger looking man.
''Ok Leo.'' The man responded. ''But next time send Vinny, I've been in this group longer and so I shouldn't be the first to do grunt work''.
''Just go.'' The man with the mustache said. ''I'll be right behind you.''
''Whatever.'' The youthful man Benny, murmured disdainfully.
''Be right back.'' He said, and with a swish he was gone.
"What do you think it is Leo?'' The man named Vinny said.
"I don't know it sounded like singing." The tall man responded.
Oren and Emera, where hiding amongst the branches carefully listening to the mens' conversation.
Oren thought to himself, those women are in danger.
Just as he was thinking this. The man named Benny suddenly appeared.
"Leo, Vinny!" Benny said excitedly. "The sound is coming from two women, from the looks of it they don't even appear to have any guards, just a pair bows and arrows."
The other twos' eyes lit up. ''Women!'' They said in unison.
''How far are they?'' The man named Leo said, with a hint of malicious intent in his voice.
''Maybe 200 to 300 feet North." Benny exclaimed, clearly still full of excitement.
''Ok then let us go have a chat with them.'' The leader Leo spoke, his voice still full of Malice.
''Tonight boys, we are on the hunt.'' He said. Then... Swoosh...Swoosh..swoosh. All three men vanished.
