Chapter 168 - 168 Wrong Timing in Calling

"Hello?" A female's melodious voice sounded on the other side of the phone. On the background, there were some shuffling in which October could not identify.

"Elise." October said this with a blank look on her face. She was staring into nothing as if she was in deep thought. Her eyes looked at the ceiling and her lips pursed.

Silence.

It was not a complete silence, though, for the background was in fact a bit noisy with it's shuffling of some...fabric and slapping sound. Well, it just meant that Elise did not make a sound for some time.

October thought that her voice was not heard and was about to call again only for her to stop of swallow her voice. Her eyes flashed with uneasiness and her face reddened.

Creak, creak, creak. Shuffling sounds can also be heard.

"Mm..nn~" Came in the m.o.a.ning of Elise.

End.

In a hurry, October wordlessly ended the call as soon as she heard a deep man's groan. She evne almost dropped her phone in a fl.u.s.ter. 

Shestared balnkly at her phone on her slightly shaking hand. She checked if the number she had called was really Elise's number. It turned out that it really was. For a moment, she thought and wished that she had contacted someone else's number. 

Then, as if reality hit her hard, she squeezed her eyes shut and placed a hand over her forehead. She had actually called at the very wrong time.

'Did I just called her at the worst possible time? Wait, it is still morning, right? What? Ma-m.a.k.i.n.g. .l.o.v.e this early in the morning?!' October thought to herself and she was beyond herself. She just heard her friend getting at it.

October frowned and opened her eyes filled with uneasiness. Her face felt so hot that she had to use her hand to fan on her face in an attempt to cool it off. Just that, it did not. 

"Director?" Came in the voice of Yun Xixi, making the rattled October to jolt in her seat. Because she still had to regain her composure and cool off, her face is still tinted in pink. "Are you okay, Director? Your face is red. Are you having a fever?"

Worried, Yun Xixi came in in hurried steps. She instantly arrived in front of her boss' table. Her brows furrowed together and her eyes showed complete concern.

October felt her brow twitching. She cleared her throat to hide her embarrassment. How can she tell her secretary that she had just interrupted her friend "playing" on bed. Gosh! She could not say it at all, now can she?

She's really troubled. 

"I'm fine. Just felt hot." She said, trying to dismiss it quickly. She does not want to think about that anymore. 

"Are you sure?" Yun Xixi looked at her boss with doubt in her eyes. Wondering why her boss was fanning on her face, she turned her sight on the air conditioner and asked out of concern, "Is the air conditioner not low still? Do you want me to lower it more, Director?"

"No, it's okay." After saying this, October dropped her fanning hand and helplessly put it on top of her table. Forcing herself to look composed and furiously tossed that earlier blunder at the back of her mind, she turned her attention on Yun Xixi. 

"More than that, is there anything you want, Xixi?" October asked.

"It's just that, is there any particular color for your wedding, Director? Uhm...is it really okay for me to attend?" Yun Xixi asked timidly and fidgeted. She played with her thumb, a habbit she had when she was nervous. 

"Color...for the wedding...?" October repeated the words and seemed to not think more about it and so was only able to look at Yun Xixi with a blank look.

"A color motif for your wedding?" Yun Xixi tilted her head. 

"Oh, that. I didn't think much about that. Maybe just any color will do." October replied with a shrug. Also, her mother-in-law was doing much everything for the wedding. Even her grandpa was not spared and was the one who voluteered that he will get the perfect wedding dress. Where her grandpa will get it for her and when her grandpa will deliver it, she really does not know. 

"That won't do, Director!" Yun Xixi exclaimed. She does not expect for her boss to be so nonchalant about such an thing for her wedding. I mean, this is her boss' wedding, you know?!

"How about you flowers? Or some color in which you took a liking to. There is, right?" Ha! There isn't. 

"...no?" October lowered her eyes and fiddled with her phone. 

"What's with that pause just now? That was clearly suspicious! So there really is." Yun Xixi said out loud and exposed her boss' blatant lie. It turned out that her boss was not good with lying. Seriously, how can her boss be such a good person yet her husband in the devil incarnate?

Her heart sighed. She just wished that her boss will be happy.

Yun Xixi was thinking for her boss' happiness in all sincerity. Of October would come to know of this, she might probably just tell her secretary with a big smile on her face what she was feeling. Something like, 'I am really happy and contented. He's perfect.'

When Yun Xixi will hear of this, she would be left speechless and stare at her boss' glowing face. 

It's not that Lexus was really the perfect specimen of a man. However, October was a woman with an perculiar personality and temperament. Someone as persistent like Lexus with his feeling shooting at full force toward the dense October was perfect for her. Also, she could not feel anything special toward other men aside from Lexus. 

This was proven even at the first moment they met. Such was fate.

October looked at her secretary's puffing cheeks and a playful glare directed at her. A smile so small almost unnoticeable formed on her petal-like lips. 

She sighed and resigned to say, "I like sapphire blue."

Yun Xixi pursed her lips and thought for a moment before nodding her head in agreement, "That's a nice color. Is there any particular reason why this color?" 

October felt her heart skipped a beat in her c.h.e.s.t. Was there really a need for Yun Xixi to ask this? Seriously, always making her push in a corner. 

"Xixi, it seemed like you really got cheeky. I also see that you are really carefree and had a lot of free time." October's eyes darkened and squinted at Yun Xixi in warning. "Do you want for me to arrange new work for you?"

"Ah? Ah! No, director. I'm sorry." The secretary panicked and a cold sweat formed at her back. She then let out a nervous laugh. "I'm already busy, Director. In fact, I just remembered that I still have something to finish in my desk. I'll be going now."

Tranquility restored in the room.

October smirked while shaking her head in helplessness. She saw how Yun Xixi run out of her office in a panic as soon as she heard that her work will increase. How much hate did she have about the idea of increased work? Work is fun, though.

Unfortunately, not all people think that work is fun. Maybe, only she find it fun because she a workaholic herself.

Shrugging it off, feeling unconcerned, she continued to bury herself with work.
