25 Mr. and Mrs. Jones
Annabelle's eyes grew wide in shock. The world is definitely a small one, she thought. Is that why he had asked her if she knew him those months ago? How was she even supposed to know him if she was unconscious? Annabelle had so many questions going on in her mind but instead of asking that she bowed to Lester in appreciation.
"I am really grateful for your help on that day sir. I am not sure if there is a way I can show my appreciation" Annabelle said after giving it much thought. Lester was really happy but pretended not to be. "Well, if you really want to show your appreciation you can...." "Annabelle dear, there you are. I asked these naughty two to call you over but instead, they are here with you"
Lester was cut off by a woman who looked similar to the twins, although he was annoyed at this, he let it slide seeing Annabelle smile. "Mrs. Jones," Annabelle said as she saw the twins' mother walk towards them. "Silly child, I told you to call me mum whenever you see me, why don't you ever listen" Mrs. Jones pouted like a child.
Samantha and Samuel's parents already took a liking to Annabelle since they heard about her from Samantha. Since then they have been communicating and even Mrs. Jones came to pay them a visit. It was no surprise they readily agreed to Samantha's request of starting her own company from scratch.
Annabelle smiled seeing Mrs. Jones acting up. "Alright, mum. Forgive me I am sorry" Hearing this Mrs. Jones was really happy. "Well, that is good for now, here you go" Mrs. Jones said as she handed a perfectly wrapped gift to Annabelle. "Thank you so much mum," Annabelle said as she accepted the gift.
"Mother, how come I didn't receive any gift?" Samantha said feigning anger. Rolling her eyes at her daughter's behavior, Mrs. Jones answered. "Well, you are not the Valedictorian or are you?" "Ooh!!! burn" Samuel said making fun of his sister. Mrs. Jones glared at Samuel
"The same goes for you Mr." Mrs. Jones said. "WHAT!!! I didn't do anything wrong, I swear mum" Samuel said earning a scoff from his mother. Looking at the mother and her kids behaving bickering like toddlers, the remaining people in the group started laughing, well, except for our stone-faced Lester.
Lester no longer felt welcome there and he didn't want to disturb the party so he sneaked away when he thought nobody was looking. What he couldn't have guessed though was Annabelle had seen him sneaking away. Annabelle looked at the man who was walking away and suddenly felt he was sad.
The group continued their discussion amidst laughter with Grandma Adrian occasionally berating all of them in the group. They had all forgotten about Samantha's father until they heard someone clearing their throat. Looking up Samantha exclaimed "Oh my God!!!"
Mrs. Jones turned around and saw her husband. "I can understand the two brats forgetting about me but not you wife," Mr. Jones said as he pointed his finger at Samantha and Samuel to make his point. They all knew he wasn't angry but Mrs. Jones tried coaxing her husband like he was a child.
"Darling, how can you say that? Just so you know I am very hurt" Mrs. Jones said sniffing dramatically. Mr. Jones looked at his wife and grinned. "Alright, I am sorry dear wife. Will you forgive me?" Mr. Jones asked. "Hmm, about that we will see," Mrs. Jones said as she folded her arms like a small kid asking for candy.
Samantha face palmed looking at her parents. She knew what was going to happen next. She held Annabelle and was about to drag her along when she heard Charlie speak out. "Urgh, get a room you two will you?" Samuel looked at his parents in shock "I know we have graduated but I don't want to be known in the school's history as the boy whose parents couldn't keep their tongue out of each other's throat at his graduation"
Everyone laughed at this, the Jones parents finally left each other reluctantly after Grandma Adrian chipped in. "I am so disappointed in you two," she said. After the couple separated she sneered "I thought that was going to last longer, maybe I need to give you two a lesson" she said seriously like she was really thinking about doing just that.
At this point, everyone shouted NO, seeing her serious expression. There was nothing she couldn't do when she put her mind to it and most of the outcomes were disasters. Grandma Adrian scoffed hearing their disapproval. "When I was your age, I was quite good at these things, in fact, every guy then wanted to date me..."
Grandma Adrian was still rambling on when she noticed she was the only one that was still talking. Glaring at the group that had gone a long distance she shouted "I can't believe I know such ingrates like you people. I expected this from the younger ones, not you two" she said referring to Mr. and Mrs. Jones in annoyance. She tapped her walking cane on the ground before she started walking towards them.
When she got to their side, the group looked at her in amusement, "WHAT?" she snapped at them. Charlie clicked his tongue at her "Maybe you need to get a man, you really are too old to be doing all these you know" Charlie said shaking his head. "You are the one who is old" Grandma Adrian retorted as she tried to hit Charlie with her walking cane.
Charlie had already anticipated her next course of action and as such sidestepped the old woman. This earned another fit of laughter as they saw the frustrated Grandma Adrian puff like a kid who was bullied. "Grandma Adrian you should not let these kids get to you at your age you know" Mrs. Jones said worriedly.
"Who is your Grandma?" Grandma Adrian said glaring at Mrs. Jones. "Hey, how about we all go back to the twins' place and let grandma Adrian cook one of her delicious meals for us," Charlie said trying to pacify Grandma Adrian. "I am not cooking for you," Grandma Adrian said pointing at Charlie. "Hey, old woman you should thank me for praising you cooking, honestly I don't really enjoy eating your food"
"No wonder, you usually clear the plates when Grandma Adrian cooks with leaving ANYTHING behind" Samantha stressed on the ANYTHING to taunt Charlie. Charlie shrugged as he smiled "Well I don't like wasting food also" Everyone laughed at this, although Grandma Adrian was not really angry earlier, she was not exactly comfortable with being called Grandma by Mrs. Jones.
She once had a daughter Mrs. Jones age or maybe they would have been around the same age now if her daughter had not died. Sophia was the only remembrance she had left of her daughter. For some reasons unknown to her she felt drawn to Annabelle ever since their first meeting and she even grew fonder of her after learning she could sow and made her own designs. The designs seemed very familiar to that of her dead daughter's.
Grandma Adrian was still deep in thought when Annabelle tapped her, smiling at Grandma Adrian she said "How about we all go to the restaurant that is close by to the apartment and I will pay for the meal" "What do you mean by that dear?" Mrs. Jones said with a frown. Mr. Jones understanding the meaning behind his wife's words continued for her "I will be handling the bill" he said
