21 Waste of DNA

Thinking about it she started getting angry. Not at them but at herself for being so blind to their acts. They stood there without anyone uttering any other words as if they were waiting for the final judgment from Annabelle.

Annabelle did not feel like wasting any more time on the three ingrates standing before her and was planning on leaving. She tugged on Charlie's shirt as she noticed he was already turning red in anger. If it was left to him alone, she was sure the girls would have been beaten to a pulp by now. She smiled in her heart and there was a warmth there.

Emma realized Annabelle had no plans of giving them an answer and asked well perhaps the most stupid question she could think of because it earned her a glare from both Rose and Elisa. "Annabelle, why don't you even come to class for lectures again?"

Annabelle raised an eyebrow at this if she didn't give them a piece of her mind they might think she is still the same Annabelle who followed them without any questions like in the past. "Why exactly is it any of your business if I come to class or not," She said looking straight into Emma's eyes.

"As for you two", she stared at Rose and Elisa challengingly "I don't have to report to you what exactly it is I do with my life, now do I. It was not my business when Elisa was dumped and it is definitely not my place to say anything"

"Friends, you call yourselves friends. How about trying harder next time with your acting. I bet you three would definitely receive an Oscar if you tried hard enough" She turned around to leave but paused in her steps when she heard Elisa speak.

"What exactly has gotten into you, Annabelle? We ate your friends even if there were any misunderstandings between us you should at least be able to forgive. We have been with you since..." Elisa was still going on with her ramblings when a crisp sound was heard.

Elisa held her face in disbelief, Charlie looked at Annabelle in shock while Emma and Rose could only stare with their mouth agape. Elisa's face contorted in anger, she had never been this humiliated before in her life. She Elizabeth Parker had never been hit before in her entire life but this ungrateful bitch actually smacked her across the face.

Although she was very angry and had glared daggers at Annabelle she still reformed to an innocent girl who had been wrongly accused. Swallowing hard she spoke with tears in her eyes "I guess I deserve that for what I said during my breakup but I did not do anything to deserve this"

Annabelle looked at her and felt the first slap she gave her was not enough and decided to deliver another sound slap. The second one was even faster than the first and it had more force than it. Elisa staggered and fell on her butt this time around.

"ANNABELLE!!!" Rose and Emma exclaimed in shock. Looking at the two like they were idiots she opened her mouth. "Believe me when I say this, the next one that says anything and I mean literally anything between you two would also face the same fate as her" she pointed her finger at Elisa disgustingly.

Rose and Emma kept quiet for fear of being hit but Elisa spoke up in between real tears this time. "How dare you slap me?" she retorted angrily. "Maybe I need to slap you once more to get your brain on the right track. You are not my friend but then again you are not even worth been my enemy. You are nothing to me right now" she looked at the remaining two who were holding themselves in fear.

The expression she had on her face was the same expression she had when they were in high school and she had beaten up those five girls. "The same goes for both of you. Do you hear me, you are nothing to me. NOTHING" She said the last word very clearly.

As she turned to leave Elisa shouted "You are just an orphan with no home or family. That is why nobody can ever love you, even your parents and siblings left you" Elisa was really angry and couldn't be bothered by her parents' words anymore. She started laughing hysterically.

Instead of Annabelle losing her cool, she smiled coldly as she said without looking back. "You Elisa are just a waste of DNA on this earth. Scum of the lowest species and believe me your parents made a big mistake giving birth to you. You should never have been born"

As Annabelle finished her last words, she walked away not seeing the look on Elisa's face as she froze in place. Emma and Rose stood rooted to where they were. Even after Annabelle had left none of them moved forward to help Elisa up. They were still too shocked to wrap their heads around Annabelle's sudden change.

Annabelle had never said any hurtful words to them before but hearing her insult Elisa now, they were overwhelmed with a wave of sadness. It felt like they were the one been insulted they knew Annabelle had probably gone soft on them if not Elisa won't be the only one on the ground by now.

As Charlie and Annabelle made their way to his car they both remained silent. Charlie knew Annabelle was really hurt not just because of her lost friends but also the words Elisa had said. Who would be happy after the one sad truth they try to forget was brought up by the people once closest to you?

Charlie looked at her calm exterior for sometimes before he finally told her "If you want to cry you can cry, it is not good to hold it in. I can take you somewhere you'd like if you want" Maybe that was the exact same thing Annabelle needed because at that point she finally broke down.

Annabelle had been holding it in all these months since her hospitalization but today felt like she really needed to find a shoulder to cry on. After she had cried her eyes out for almost half an hour. Charlie finally started his car slowly as he made his way out of the university building.

Annabelle may have looked weak at that point to any outside eye but to Charlie, she was the strongest person he had ever met. Sometimes people cry not because they are weak but because they need a reason to move on.

A reason to snap them out of that slump and come back to reality. The reality that you may not always have someone to support you but you still need to be strong. Strong enough to brave the storm, strong enough to be better, strong enough to show people that no matter how lonely it gets, You are never alone.

Charlie drove his car to a little settlement that was near a hill. When they finally got there Annabelle was already asleep. He did not want to wake her and just continued watching over her. Annabelle was such a badass earlier and he could not help but be drawn closer to her.

Charlie knew what she needed right now was not a new relationship but a real friend. A friend to help her out, someone she can rely on to always be there for her and he made a silent vow that day to be all those things to her.
