18 Belle's Designs
Annabelle and Grandma Adrian stepped out of the cab as it came to a stop in front of Alexander Corporations. Looking at the huge company before them, they were amazed at her beauty.
The outside of the company was composed of both glazed stones and glass, making it look exquisite and breathtaking. There was a total of 20 floors and the Architectural design made it look like it was not just big but also homely.
The two were waiting for the arrival of Annabelle's friends. As today was the first day they would all be resuming for their internship. Charlie had made plans to bring all four of them in his car but Grandma Adrian had arrived earlier that morning and dragged Annabelle with her.
Telling both the twins to go with Charlie as she had something to say to Annabelle. Although, they all knew that was just an excuse so Annabelle won't board Charlie's car they left the old woman alone.
Charlie, Samantha, and Samuel arrived not more than 5 minutes after the duo. As Samantha alighted from Charlie's car she exclaimed loudly, her tone unbelieving.
"Oh my God!!! Guys, are you seeing this? The place is huge and so beautiful. Just look at my reflection, I even look more beautiful" Annabelle and the others all turned to look at her. She was squealing like an elementary school pupil, not as a final year university student.
Grandma Adrian rolled her eyes at Samantha before she spoke. "Look Sam girl, just because the place is beautiful doesn't make you beautiful, Tsk" she clicked her tongue before continuing
"How can you compare this beauty to yourself, maybe I should give you a mirror' the smile on Samantha's face disappeared hearing the old woman's demeaning words.
Seeing this Annabelle intervened " Don't let her words weigh you down. She is not as beautiful as you are that is why she is angry" Annabelle said the last sentence in a barely audible whisper but Grandma Adrian still heard her.
Her wrinkled face contorted in anger, while the four youngsters laughed at Grandma Adrian's change in expression. "I might be old but my hearing is still particularly good," Grandma Adrian said with a scoff while hitting Annabelle with her walking cane.
They all laughed for a while except Annabelle who was busy rubbing her arm where she had been hit. "Alright, stop laughing we need to go inside now. We should not be late on our first day" Annabelle said with a serious face making them all laugh again. "Yes, ma'am" they all responded at the same time making Annabelle roll her eyes at them.
They were planning on entering the company through the revolving when Charlie paused in his steps. Looking back he saw Grandma Adrian was also following them. The others followed his line of sight when they noticed who he was looking at they were rather shocked.
"Old woman why are you still following us or do you have an internship at the old people's department" Charlie mocked. He knew grandma Adrian was not his fan and as such did not bother with any respectfulness in his words to her.
"Whether or not I have an internship at the old peoples' department or not is none of your business. I am the one with the all the time in the world so I have the right to be anywhere I want to be" Grandma Adrian scoffed.
"Well hopefully that time is not much now" Charlie retorted. "Alright, you two that is enough, Grandma Adrian thanks for coming but can you please go home now. I am very sure Sophia would be expecting you and as for you Charlie I am very disappointed" Annabelle said as she tried to remedy the situation.
"Sorry, old woman," Charlie said reluctantly. "Fine since you put it like that, I guess I should leave. Be sure to tell me the details after you get home okay and be careful of all these business people" grandma Adrian said.
Turning around Grandma Adrian suddenly remembered the sketches in her hands. "Annabelle wait, you will need to this" she called out to Annabelle. "Did you forget something, Anna?" Samantha asked her skeptically. "Nope" came the curt reply from Annabelle.
"What is it, Grandma Adrian?" Annabelle asked as she made her way to Grandma Adrian. She was handed a portfolio when Annabelle saw what it was she was at a loss of words.
"Why did you bring this, granny? Annabelle asked with shock apparent in her hands. 'What was the old woman doing with her sketches? And most importantly why would she need her sketches in a corporate company?'
The questions were still swirling around in her mind when Samantha's scream of excitement brought her out of her reverie. Grandma Adrian was smiling brightly, she was very happy with herself.
Samantha snatched the portfolio from Annabelle's hands and turned the pages slowly till she was done. Samantha had always been a fashion enthusiast and the only reason why she was studying another course in the business area was for her to gain a variety of knowledge.
The boys stood beside Samantha and looked at the sketches with interest. When they saw the name 'Belle's design' written on each page they knew who the portfolio belonged to. They all turned to her with questions in their eyes and fully blown interest.
Samantha waved the sketches at Annabelle and only said one word " Explain" the boys too were eagerly waiting for her answer. They were not surprised however when Annabelle changed the topic.
"Guys we need to go inside now, we can't be late for our first day of work now, can we?" when Annabelle noticed they wouldn't bulge she planned on working inside by herself but Samantha grabbed her. Looking at the time on her leather wristwatch she said "Don't worry we still have more than 40 minutes before we report, so spill"
Annabelle knew there was no avoiding the question now so she made her decision, to tell the truth. "I may have drawn them" Samantha rolling her eyes replied with "Yeah, no kidding as if it is not obvious. I meant to ask you how come, you have the designs."
Samuel noticed Annabelle was uncomfortable and joined in the conversation complimenting the sketches. "Anna the sketches are beautiful. Samantha had always been interested in the fashion industry but she is not exactly an artist"
At this, Samantha laughed mockingly, "Oh, why thank you, sweet brother, for that" this earned a fit of laughter from the other four. "Anna we are your friends and we don't exactly know anything about you, you can at least trust us with your secret right? The sketches are really gorgeous so please tell me how you made such beauties" Samantha said half begging.
Grandma Adrian took the opportunity to praise herself. "See Belle, I am a very good influence on you and you were planning on hiding them" she had on a proud expression of a mother who was boasting of her kid.
Annabelle looked at the four of them before she started speaking in a small voice. "My mother used to be a seamstress and I learned from her. I did not want her to feel so lonely, so I do some sketches at times" "And the dress?" Grandma Adrian chipped in again. "I made them myself" Annabelle replied a little bit shyly this time.
