17 She moved ou

Elisa was so angry but instead started laughing hysterically. Emma and Rose looked at her in shock. "And what exactly might be funny?" Rose asked in annoyance.

"What else, if not this nonsense of course, so I just wasted my time coming here and all for what. The Bi... I mean Annabelle isn't even around" Elisa changed her last sentence instantly when she noticed her friends glaring at her.

Clearing her throat, she stood up straight "Rose I think it is best if you just call her or don't you think?" Elisa continued. "Well that was my plan from the beginning was it not?" Rose answered rolling her eyes at Elisa like she didn't just state the obvious thing.

Rose dialed her number for sometimes but nobody picked up. After dialing her again for a couple more times she eventually gave up. Shaking her head she finally looked up at her friends and told them Annabelle was not picking up.

Elisa was so angry and felt like punching something but she kept her act altogether and smiled like there was nothing wrong. "How about we look for her in school tomorrow, maybe she is asleep or busy with something and does not want to be disturbed," Elisa said through gritted teeth.

Rose was too frustrated to take note of Elisa's expression. Although Elisa said this her right palm was tightly clenched into a fist. Emma was not exactly bothered about this as she was too occupied with her phone to even notice her two best friends.

In no time, the three had gotten back to the reception area. They were still walking towards the entrance when Emma suddenly turned back and walked to the man on duty.

"Hi!" Emma smiled sweetly at the man who was seated behind the desk. "Hello! How can I help you?" the man gave a perfunctory smile. He had seen the girls walking in earlier and he knew who they were here to see but he did not see the need in telling such rude girls anything.

Emma continued "I am so sorry to disturb you sir but my friends and I came here to see another friend of ours but you see she was not in and we actually came to surprise her" she sighed and shook her head before continuing

"But it is rather unfortunate that we could not see her, she did give us her spare keys so I was wondering if you would be kind enough to help us open her door"

Elisa and Rose were already out when the latter noticed Emma was not beside them again. Turning back she saw Emma talking to the man in the reception. Dragging Elisa she hurried back into the building.

"Well miss if I am not wrong then you are looking for the occupant of apartment 122?" he asked with a smile still plastered on his face. "Wow, mister you really are good. How did you know she is the person we are looking for?"

Emma decided to flatter. The man noticed her antics but smiled instead. By now Rose and Elisa had already gotten to Emma and the man at the reception.

The man looked at the three of them and felt like beating them up, he could not understand how people like them could exist. They call themselves friends but they had no idea that their friend has actually moved out a little over a month ago.

Although he was annoyed with the three of them he still smiled as he gave his reply. "Miss Annabelle actually moved out a little over a month ago" "What!" the three girls looked at the man in shock.

"What? she did not tell you? hmm, that is so sad" the man continued portraying the qualities of a good host. He was very happy with the expressions of shock on their faces. He just had to ask the question to make them feel bad, he already knew the answer when he had seen them earlier.

"Wait, sir what do you mean by she moved out, at least she should have told us she moved. We are her friends" this time it was Elisa who spoke. "Hmm, I have no idea" the man shrugged innocently. 'Friends indeed' the man thought.

He had always liked Annabelle with the way she portrayed herself although she goes to the best school in the city. She didn't let her pride get in the way unlike these three in front of him.

Rose swallowed hard before asking while still trying her best to smile. "Kind sir, do you perhaps know where she moved to, maybe you could help us out. An address or something, actually anything would be fine"

"Well how am I supposed to know where she moved to, it is not like she had any obligation to tell me her new address" the man was getting clearly annoyed. He was but a porter in the building. How was he supposed to know where one of the occupants of the building moved to.

Elisa did not detect the annoyance in his voice and snapped at him rudely "Look, sir if you know anything just tell us, why exactly are you so difficult. Maybe you need something to lose you up" as she said this she took out a few notes from her bag and handed it to the man.

"Young lady, I see you lack proper manners," the man said not taking the money Elisa gave to him. "Excuse me! what did you just say to me? Do you have any idea who you are talking to? What rubbish" Elisa scoffed.

Rose and Emma saw that the matter was already getting out of hand, they never expected Elisa to give the man any money or even insult him. That was clearly clueless and arrogant on her part.

Rose tried signaling to Elisa who keep her mouth shut but Elisa continued instead."I would advise the two of you take your friend away now if you know what is best for her" the man said calmly ignoring the volcano that was about to erupt.

"Otherwise what? What can you do?" Elisa snapped at the man angrily "E, that is enough let us leave. The man already said he does not know where Annabelle moved to, so please can we go now?" Rose tried calming the furious Elisa down.

Elisa sneered "What if I refuse to leave, you are also going to throw me out? Is that it? You did not tell me you were in cahoots with this old fool. Let me guess you know exactly where she is but you are refusing to tell us, isn't that the truth Rose?"

The man was watching the show in front of him interestingly. The so-called friends were finally showing their true colors. Although it was fun to watch their disagreement he decided to end the ongoing battle. He pressed a button on his desk and soon two guards came down to meet him.

Pointing at the three girls the man stood up slowly and made his way to the front of his desk. "Ladies I would ask you to leave now or as you can see I can also tell my friends here to show you the way," he said all this with a smile before he finally added "Money is not always everything, it can also cost you what you love the most"
