16 Stage 2 begin: head to the bridge!

Honk of cars buzzed in the highway, the large road dense with tons of vehicle that had been long stationary. Each moment they moved, the cars barely reach somewhere before they stopped again. Many pedestrian walked on the side path, some of them had come by foot since the beginning and the other came by car but decided to abandon it since it much slower.

Last night they decided to pull over in some empty avenue and get some rest, especially Shizuka-sensei who are crucial to drive the mini bus. It will be dangerous if she was too tired if she kept driving and didn't have any energy by tomorrow. The boys took shift in watch over the area, Rei also stayed in guard until late. Takagi asked for some swordplay training with Fujimura and they ended up practice for a bit. True to her affection skill , it wasn't take a long time for her to understand the basic of swinging sword, though she far from perfect.

Shizuka-sensei rested for five hours, since she said she can't sleep anymore thus might as well driving the mini bus once more and they finally arrived in this state by the afternoon.

"Huuh..." the busty nurse sighed, pasting her chin on the steer while looking in bored at the view beyond the front window.

"Don't worry, I promise you, with all of my power and guidance, we will make it through this day and the day after that! So long you listen to my words and offer me your fealty, my back will remain strong for you! My leadership is the spear of our circle, my words is your sword to hold, and my fairness is the ties that bind us together! We have nothing to fear, no one shall dare to destroy our unity, not those monster, and not the human!"

After managed to restore his footing and the ability to speak, Shidou resumed his preaching mode and began enlightening the naive and pure students in this mini bus. Sadly, his face that wrapped in bandage made his speech less effective than it used to be. Only few of them that managed to get hook by his 'righteous leader' inspirational words, while the rest realized it just a stupid rambling. The skinny foxy teacher also spoke quite far from Fujimura and team location, perhaps that blasting punch still quite a traumatic experience for him.

"Zzzz..." Kohta busily doze off beside Saya which made the girl showed a disgusted face at the drool he had on the corner of his lips. She leaned away from him, using the handle of the iron sword, she nudged his face and awoke the man.

"Zzz...ah, Takagi-san, good morning..." the fat boy said in a dreamy face.

"What morning, you fat ass! Ew, clear that thing from your face first," she waved her hand and shooed him away.

"Uh... sorry," he grabbed his tissue and wiped the drool.

"Ugh, how can you sleep in this situation?" the girl had her face darkened.

"It's not like I have other thing to do..." Kohta glanced at the window on his side and bitterly smiled at the dense packed cars.

"This won't do, it will take forever for us to cross the bridge if we just stay like this," Saya crossed her arms and frowned deeply.

"It would have been much better if we had gone toward the suburb..."

"Yes, but we don't know for sure whether it was safe or not by going there... and it wasn't just them that I am worry about..."

"People, huh..." Kohta frowned.

"Not just people, crazy people, those who had their mind succumb into the madness. So far you had been killing those who previously just your acquaintance or completely unrecognized, thus in the term of psychological impact, it certainly not comparable than killing your family or best friend.

Hirano, what would your state of mind had become if you have to shoot down your mother?" she glanced to him with completely serious eyes.

"It... probably go unstable," Kohta shut his eyes half-lidded.

Saya nodded, at this moment, Rei had come to her seat, bending her body as she stared at window at the far side.

"Another air plane had take off, it's really few today compare than usual..." she mumbled.

"Probably because no safe destination are available, places with special armed force will have a strict regulation in regard of accepting the civilian in. Not just because of the risk of letting in anyone who are infected, but they have to control the population size for the sake of provision and maintain order, as soon as the capacity's limit had met, whether they want it or not, those people had no way to enter," Saya said.

"Are they just going to abandon the rest of the people?" Rei spoke in disbelieve.

"It's a hard choice that must be made, at least they could guarantee the safety of few civilian, but I am sure that small part of them is actually people of government themselves. Or people with connection with them, a commoner will require a large quantity of luck to pass through the check point."

"Then what would have become of this people?"

"The rich one certainly have many way to secure their own safety, going to their private island, living on the boat, or simply stay in their panic room. Smart people will try to hide in their own house, it's the place they are most familiar with and easily barricade. Cautious people will move from one location to another location, distancing themselves from any possibility that might cause them any harm. All in all, people had many way to survive, but they all share the same characteristic...

They will only care about themselves and their family, perhaps a small number of people they knew such as best friend and lover. Not only they won't have to worry about trust issue, but managing a small group of people is far easier.

People want absolute control within their grasp, having a stranger inside their group certainly keeping them away from it," Saya said while crossing her arms. Then she tilted her head to the side.

"Take a look at the zealot behind us for an example, whether he realized it or not, he just established a small group of his own, follower if you prefer that term, such he will have perfect slaves to do his bidding. Little obedient soldiers who he will use as cannon fodder."

Rei fiercely glared at Shidou who still preached without limit, really, perhaps only when someone's stitch his damn mouth already that he will stop talking.

"I could have end it, right here, right now..." Rei raised the broom stick that had a knife attached to its end. The knife was picked by Fujimura when they are in the convenient store before, this way she's not only can just pierce but also cut those monster's head.

"I am with Miyamoto," Kohta held his nail gun, he had so much ammunition now since the nail's stock had been replenish from the store.

"Both of you quit it, to be honest, I prefer him do what he did, this way our group will be separate, and we can just maintain our own," Saya said with cool temperament.

"Beside I rather stay in a small group if that mean we all could survive..." the image of that timid black haired girl still haunted her mind. Up until now she failed to remember her name.

Kohta and Rei could sense a meaningful tone in her voice, they both went silent but showed no complaint.

"Since our little band of misfit has been established, shall we get on then?"at this moment, Fujimura who just sat in silent for a long time stood up from his seat and faced the three of them.

"Get on?" Rei wrinkled her eyebrows as she looked at the smirk on her senior's face.

"We leave the mini bus, heading toward the other bridge. Don't worry, even when he look like that, Komuro is actually smart, he must have figure it out too when he look at this condition," Saya fixed her glass, there was confident on her smile.

"Hee... you seem know Takashi a lot..." Rei twitched her eyes and forced a grin.

"Wha- we are childhood friend, of course I know one or two thing about him, you should have too!" the pink haired girl had her face go red, she started speaking loudly. Kohta only awkwardly smiled while Rei wickedly giggled.

"Marikawa-sensei, what about you, will you come with us or stay? I hope you did since we will require your medical expertise," Fujimura ignored their babbling and headed to the front seat.

"I come! I know you will need me at some point, and truth to be told, I don't really like being around Shidou-sensei," she honked her mouth as she looked at the slim teacher with uncomfortable eyes.

"Then it is settled, the five of us will head to the Onbetsu bridge, if we luck, we met Saeko and Komuro along the way," Fujimura chuckled. The group nodded in affirmative.

"Alert! Alert!"

"Hm?" Shidou noticed their act of preparation to leave, he immediately went to stop them.

"Friends! Where are you going? In the time like this we should stand together, not disarray..." he flaunted his smirk, it's like gazing at the devil's smile.

"Sorry, sensei, but we have plan on our own, you can do whatever you want with the mini bus and the rest of the supply but we will not be staying!" Saya flung her hair and confidently spoke.

"Hee... I see," surprisingly the sneaky teacher didn't look surprise or bother with it, despite the punk dude behind who clenched his teeth, begrudgingly glared at the pink hair girl.

"You guys can leave, I don't mind, but I must strongly suggested that you, Marikawa-sensei!" he raised his finger and pointed at the blonde nurse, the dull Shizuka startled, her bosomy chest jiggled at it.

"You are the only doctor, someone like you will have crucial part to play in this hell on earth, I cannot let you get away," he licked his lips and took a step forward.

"Marikawa-sensei, are you possibly want to abandon these student? Especially me who are in sick condition? Aren't you have a code of ethic not to disregard, let alone run away from the patient that need your help? Have we all fallen that low? Ignoring every single rule just to survive? Have you become the likes of them? An ignorant, barbaric, and disobedient fool that not know the most basic guide of survival is to stay safe together?" His hand reached forward as if wanted to grasp her from afar.

The words he said has some right on them, as a doctor she had spoken a vow, to help those who needed, no matter what race, religion, or characteristic they have. A medical personnel should be ready to whoever, on whenever, and at wherever. Shizuka froze on her spot, for the first time the dull nurse had serious countenance on her face as she was stuck between going with her will or follow her code.

Sensing her doubt, Shidou had delightful face, he became more dare to walk toward them despite his fear for Fujimura. Kohta was fed up with this teacher attitude, he kept constantly want to bother with them. He raised the nail gun and prepared to shot him, of course he wasn't going for a real harm, he just wanted to graze the damn teacher's arm. But a hand grabbed the hand made gun's body and pushed it down a little. The boy surprised and he looked at blue haired senior who shook his head then nudging it toward the nurse behind them.

Shizuka had her eyes closed, the trembling on her eye-spot proved how she had so much struggle on that part.

The code of ethic...

Her mind had flashed to the part where she stood among the other doctor in her graduation day, spoken the words that was not mean to break. A piece of paper placed before her, an eternal contract that she must signed, a prove of her loyalty to those who needed.

Then her mind flashed again, to the boy she failed to save from the outbreak, to many lives of students that died in that school. Then she trampled on all of them while driving the mini bus away.

Yes, they are not human. They are the people she failed to save.

What is the mean of code of ethic if she couldn't save anyone?

She opened her eyes and stared the small group of students before her, those eyes flickered with strong resolve.

"My oath, is that I have to save people from the sickness, but how many that had been lost as I failed my job? But with these many people what can I do either? I am sorry...

I am not a good nurse, doctor, or whatever you want to call me...

Kohta, Rei, and Saya smiled, feeling warm for the blonde woman's care for their welfare. Fujimura pushed his glass with his middle finger and sneered at the ugly face Shidou.

"The decision had been made, sorry Shidou-sensei... you may want to look for other nurse," his tone filled with mocking guess.

"That's unacceptable! I won't let you go!" he sprang forward, the punk dude had secretly took out a knife from his back.

"Kohta, go nuts..." the blue haired young man smiled in wicked, affecting the fatty junior to crook his own lips.

He aimed the nail gun toward Shidou and pressed the trigger happily.

*Puchi!* *Puchi! *Puchi!*

Initially Kohta just want to warn him to back the hell off, but he thought that may not be enough to restore the man's sanity. Yes, he has to show that teacher he's not the old fat boy that he could bully. Three grey nail flew through the air, one penetrate the man's left shoulder, another stabbed his thigh, and the last one jabbed his finger.

"Arggggh!!!" Shidou fell onto his ass, feeling many pain that came from his body. Kohta aimed his nail gun toward the punk dude, he remembered that face as someone who liked to bully him in the past. He smiled sincerely while accepting the humiliation many times that he could count.

The punk dude ceased whatever intention he had in the first place, he dropped the knife onto the ground and raised his hands in surrender.

"F-fatty, come on, we are friends, right? You always laughed at my jokes!" he forced a smile.

"Yes... and don't worry... I am still laughing!"
