4 The eccentric Librarian and his mission

"I'm the Librarian, L for friends. Who are you expecting?"

"Were you the one who send this? How did you enter our house?" asks Eva, showing him the letter in her hands.

"Well, of course it was me. If not, who else? And for the second answer, well, it is a secret between me and the Book of Prixia," says L.

He turns and goes to one of the walls of the room and goes through it. Surprised, the sisters chase after him. They arrive to another room, but empty except for a lectern holding a huge book.

"And what is the Book of Prixia?" asks Leah as she enters the room.

"The Book of Prixia is were history is written. Every action, every little detail that has happen is written there," says L while pointing to the book. "It was created by blood of the first Librarian during the First Great War."

He approaches to the walls of the chamber, were beautiful mural are telling the story of Prixia.

"Before the world, she was a banshee who assisted the Elders. She was asked to transcribe everything she saw or heard. Thus, she also is the first scrivener. However, during the First Great World she sacrificed herself to protect the knowledge. With her blood she bonded herself to her notebook and—

"There is nothing written in here. It's blank," interrupts Eva, who had approach to the lectern to see the book better.

"— and with her last breath she enchanted the book so that only those who are chose can read it. You are quite impatient, aren't you?"

Lucien smiles wickedly towards Eva.

"Okay, but what does the book have to do with us?" says Leah, trying to change the subject.

"Well, if you are wondering if you are the chosen, I have to say that not. Yet. For now, the three of you, and many more, are candidates to become the next Librarian."

"What he is trying to say is that you will have to pass a serial of trials for the book to choose", explains Darius.

The sisters turn and look towards him. He is at the door, without really trespassing it into the chamber.

" And no. He doesn't know which trial each of you have to do."

"So, he doesn't know, what or who is exactly is the Librarian", asks Eva.

"He is just a guardian. Although he seems to know everything, he is just good at pretending it. He only protects the book, like us," says Darius.

"Us? And from who does he protect it?" asks again.

"You're really curios, aren't you? Let me give you an advice. If you really want to know something and you ask a question, make sure you're ready for the answer, because many times is the last thing you want to know," warns L as he is walking towards her, step by step until he is one from her.

They stare at each other for a couple of minutes until Eva cannot keep it longer and turns her head.

She cannot keep it more. She is physically a and mentally exhausted. She has to go. where, nowhere. It doesn't matter, bit she just needs, no, she HAS to get out of here.

She runs toward the exit and keeps running. She passes the hall of the Librarian and keeps running. She passes the houses of the town until she arrives to her house, bit keeps running. Finally, she arrives to her room and she locks he up. She is safe there. For now.

Back to the Library...

"Well, that was awkward," says Darius.

"I should go," says Leah, ignoring what Darius has said.

"Wait, before you go, please, take this. You will need it," says L as he gives her a key with a 'k' form.

She looks at the object, before looking L with confusion. She nods, turns around and goes after her sister.

L gives a nod to Lucien, who goes after Leah.

Back to the house, at night...

Eva is laying in her bed. She seems to be sleeping peacefully. But she's not.
