7 The Truth
As Lucas opened his eyes for the first time in 1400 years he slowly started sitting up while holding his head in a daze as the memories from all those years ago came back to him. Of course, Lucas was not aware of the time that has passed as it only felt like a second had passed to him. He slowly positioned his feet over the end of the stone slab preparing to stand up not even having realized the two demons standing before him.
"Take it, slow son, you've slept for a long time you need to re-familiarize yourself with your body or you will just end up stumbling around and falling on your face."
Lucas froze has he heard this voice, it was the same voice he remembered speaking directly into his mind before. Even though the voice was not as imposing and had a hint of gentleness this time he was still temporarily frozen in fear unable to recover for a few moments. Once he finally managed to collect his thoughts he slowly rose his head looking up horrified at what he saw, an imposing demon wearing some worn out looking robes and another next to him but he found that one beautiful almost unable to tear his eyes away from her.
"Don't be sucked in by her looks son, she is a succubus. If you get drawn in she'll just suck you of your life force until you die a very painful death."
Lucas was pulled out of his daze as he once again turned his eyes back to the imposing demon.
'Shit I have to get out of here as soon as possible, I don't know why he saved me back then but I absolutely can't risk being tricked again and possibly dying this time. I want to see my family again, I absolutely must make it out of here alive.'
After finishing his thoughts he carefully looked around the room before spotting the hole that Artemis made to get inside.
'I don't know if I can make that jump but I certainly must try!'
Lucas leaped up from the stone slab and ran to the hole with extreme speed, he kicked his foot off the wall launching him high enough to grab onto the side of the hole and pull himself up. After he was on the ground he wasted no time before sprinting at full speed towards the church. As he was sprinting he noticed that he had seemingly got significantly stronger and had higher stamina than before. He was not wrong, this was due to his body repairing itself to a stronger state than before after being so severely injured by his own power. After that he noticed something else, that it was seemingly night outside, but it felt different it seemed more artificially but he abandon that train of thought as yet another thing popped into his mind.
'Fuck, what if the church thinks that I had tried to escape and just murders me without question when I go back? Screw it if they won't listen to me I will just escape for real, although it would be earlier than planned I will find a way to make it work.'
As Lucas continued running towards the old location of the church Artemis still stood in the altar as he lowered his head and deeply sighed in frustration and disappointment. Although it couldn't be said that this was completely unexpected, it would still be a headache to convince his son he was on his side while also keeping him from panicking while telling him the truth about his existence and how much time has passed since the last time he was awake.
Artemis disappeared from the altar in a flash as he started chasing his son leaving Barthiz to play catch up. It did not take long before he caught up to him and overtook him as he stood in front of Lucas blocking his path. Seeing this Lucas felt an intense fear rise in his heart before coming to a complete stop.
"I am not here to hurt you like that one from before, just hear me out!"
Lucas squinted his eyes at Artemis nodding his head as a signal for Artemis to keep speaking without lowering his guard. Artemis heaved a sigh of relief that he would not have to chase down his son and use force to make him listen to what he had to say. Artemis stood silently for a moment as he had to think carefully about his next words and he did not want to scare him off again.
"Listen to me very carefully, what I am about to say may be hard to believe but I swear in the name of the creator that everything I am about to say is true"
As these words escaped his mouth the power that had been covering the sky above them responsible for making the kingdom eternally dark was overwhelmed but a much more oppressive power, bright white shining clouds gathered overhead accompanied by flashes of mighty golden lightning, waiting to rain down on Artemis should his next words be untrue. Swearing in the name of the creator was a very serious thing that people would not casually do. Even if it was a normal human or grand inquisitor if they lied under the name of the creator they would be turned to ash before having their souls tormented by some "light" tribulations for a millennium. Things were different for a demon such as Artemis though his soul would be tormented for the rest of existence by the 92 creator tribulations.
Having been with the church for some time Lucas had naturally read and heard about swearing in the name of the creator, and seeing the clouds above confirming his knowledge he slightly relaxed waiting for Artemis to continue speaking.
"The truth is that your entire life up till this point has been a lie, you are not Roland's son and never were. You may have some of his blood running through your veins but that is merely a vessel containing the truth inside, the day you were conceived I had possessed your father for the sole purpose of creating you I Artemis, emperor of hell am your true father."
After Artemis finished speaking Lucas waited for a moment to see if the lightning struck down, but of course, it did not. Lucas was shocked at first but calmed down and contemplated before slightly nodding his head, feeling as though things made much more sense now. Why his father would look at his existence as a sin and be enraged if he brought up how he could be a demon if his father and his mother were human.
'Yes things make much more sense now, and I am glad that he is my true father since he is the emperor of hell he can surely help me see the members of my family that I care about again.'
Lucas smiled in happiness at the thought but before he could say anything Artemis spoke again.
"Seeing the look on your face I can tell you've managed to piece things together and make sense of everything, I am very pleased by this but there is something else I must tell you, please prepare yourself."
Lucas curiously looked at Artemis, curious as to what else he had to say while also feeling an ominous premonition. Due to this ominous feeling, he looked to the sky to make sure the clouds were still there to make sure he still could not lie. After confirming the clouds had not yet dispersed he looked back at Artemis waiting for him to continue. Artemis once again opened his mouth to speak.
"The demon general you had met before was not there to kill you, but to seal you, and in the end, he succeeded. The amount of time that has passed is 1400 years, and I'm sure you've realized it already but no mortal could possibly live this long but if you haven't realized yet then I am truly sorry to inform you, my son, that your entire family has long since passed."
After the words came out of Artemis's mouth Lucas just stood there waiting for the clouds to react or the lighting to strike down, but instead, they simply started to disperse as the darkness from before returned. Seeing this he realized what he said was the truth, after coming to this realization Lucas's gaze became unfocused as he stood there staring blankly for a moment as a tear fell down his cheek. Lucas grasped at his heart feeling extreme pain as he collapsed onto his knees.
'Mother, brother, sister their all gone? I will never be able to again feel my mother's loving gaze? I will never be able to watch my little sister's silly antics? I will never be able to visit my brother to talk about the things one would only share with a true brother?'
As all these things ran through Lucas's mind he could not handle his feelings as he clenched his fist and screamed into the sky with sorrow and despair, he laid on the ground and closed his eyes tightly desperately hoping that when he opened them this would all be a dream, but when he opened them once again nothing changed, alas this was not a dream and everyone he had ever truly cared for was gone.
"Take it, slow son, you've slept for a long time you need to re-familiarize yourself with your body or you will just end up stumbling around and falling on your face."
