Were he to use it to travel back in time it would be a guaranteed failure causing his soul to be lost in the river of time and dissipate.
The one in front of him was different it was no longer infected by heaven's will when he had become a rank 9 he had cleansed it of it and refined it all the way to rank 8 and due to all sorts of reasons he never had to use it again.
But now he had a chance again to make everything right but even with it being rank 8 it still wouldn't help much in the future at most would extend his dissipation speed in the future so the only way is to refine it into a rank 9 Gu allowing to bring more than just his memories back.
Luckily through all these times, this Gu was still his life bound Gu so no matter how many failures happens it won't be destroyed wasting his efforts. With the time difference between his aperture, he has more than enough time to plan out his rebirth and refinements.

First would be some immortal essence 2 rank 9, 3 rank 8, 4 rank 6 and 10 rank 6 for materials he had allocated most of the space for the materials because he plans to reforge the Paragon Immortal Fetus Gu, he didn't plan on stealing it again as it would cause too many consequences he'd rather avoid. For Gu's he only chose a few that would help him most. First was Soul Swap Gu, Manner Gu, Fixed Immortal Travel Gu, rank 6 Blizzard Gu, a pocket space gu used to store the materials, some other mortal gu and sealing Gu used to seal these Gu temporarily or else he would die by aperture explosion.
With that, he uses Wisdom Gu to start stimulating a time dao rank 9 ultimate move, to move everything to the past or else even with a rank 9 Spring Autumn cicada won't do. After an unknown amount of time, he finished his calculation and with a thought countless space and time dao Gu rose up along with a few other immortal space and time Gu surrounding the Spring Autumn Cicada.
Staring at this scene emotionally before calming down "now seed me all the way back to before I was born!!!" With that everything from his Gu's to his body exploded sending his soul and his belongings into the river of time.
