132 Collecting poisons
Bai Yun woke up a long time later. He had fallen asleep due to the effects of the pollen that was still in the air. But since the flower was destroyed, Bai Yun was not eaten. He was only affected by the residual effects of the pollen, and not hit with its full force.
When Bai Yun woke up, he realized that a long time had passed. It was already night by now.
The first thing that Bai Yun did when he woke up was to check on the flower. He needed to collect some of the hallucinogenic pollen created by the flower. Unfortunately, Bai Yun had already burned the flower so as not to fall victim to it. So it was not possible to collect the pollen directly from it.
Bai Yun thought about this for a while. Then he had an idea. He briefly opened the god and devil eyes to make sure that his idea was feasible.
Even though he couldn't see it, there was a thin layer of pollen on the ground as well as the trees. Since it was the place closest to the flower, the greatest amount of pollen had fallen here.
Bai Yun then used his four soul tendrils and started to sweep with them. As Bai Yun swept along with the soul tendrils, he collected a bit of pollen on them. Bai Yun repeatedly swept the ground and the trees with the soul tendrils in a spiral manner. With each sweep, the amount of pollen collected increased little by little.
Bai Yun deposited the collected pollen in front of him. Soon a spiraling wind rose up along with Bai Yun's use of soul tendrils. It looked as if there was a whirlpool in the clearing. The center of the whirlpool was right in front of Bai Yun, and as time passed a small amount of pollen started to collect there.
Bai Yun stood there doing this for nearly an hour. By then a good amount of dirt and pollen had collected in front of him. Bai Yun then collected it into a container and kept it in his storage ring.
After this Bai Yun went to work on the scorpion. He pulled out the scorpion's stinger and collected some of the scorpion's venom. With this, he had collected two different kinds of poisons.
After this Bai Yun thought for a while before deciding to stay here for the night. This region was the place of the flower. Thus it was a dangerous place as far as the occupants of the poison valley knew. No other beasts would wander into the region. So it was rather safe. Bai Yun then ate another dose of the antidote in case the one he ate ran out and then settled in for the night.
When the day broke, Bai Yun left the wooded area and left to search for other regions. Bai Yun still didn't know where anything was so he continued to randomly walk in different directions. Sometimes Bia Yun would run into other hunters, but he would only ignore them and go on his way. Thankfully no conflict broke out among anyone during this period.
Bai Yun ran to a couple of demonic beasts on his way. But they were either too weak or had no poison. So Bai Yun let them go. If everyone was to kill all the beasts that they would come across, then there would be no more beasts. It was necessary to allow there to be beasts so that the future adventures can have a chance to earn money too.
It was nearly dusk by the time Bai Yun found himself alone once again. He hadn't run into anyone else in over two hours. The scenery hadn't changed a lot, but somehow Bai Yun could tell that he had entered a rather dangerous area. He was in a place with some trees and some shrubbery and some grass. It was not a forest, but it was not really a grassland either.
Bai Yun took out the testing paper once again, seeing that the color of the paper turned blue, Bai Yun quickly ate the corresponding antidote. Bai Yun then took out his sword and carefully started to walk forward.
Bai Yun took one step at a time. The more he walked, the greater the feeling of danger became. Bai Yun felt as if someone was staring at him from the shadows, ready to pounce.
Bai Yun finally stopped walking after a while. The feeling of danger didn't change, but Bai Yun was starting to feel annoyed that the feeling of danger was there but there was no attack.
Bai Yun then sat down on the ground near a tree. He put down his sword and waited there. Bai Yun started to act as if he had fallen asleep. Quickly time passed and it looked as if Bai Yun really had fallen asleep.
And just then, the ground beneath Bai Yun moved. And then a large mouth popped out of the ground and lunged at Bai Yun. At that moment Bai Yun's eyes snapped open and he leaped out of the ground. In an instant, Bai Yun jumped over three feet and landed a distance from the mouth.
Bai Yun stood up and looked up. There, where he was sitting was a large yellow brownish lizard.
Bai Yun immediately recognized the beast as a great earthen lizard. It was described in the book Bai Yun had read about in the library. It was a common beast in the poison valley. It had the ability to hide in the ground and move underground. It had powerful claws, a strong tail, and a very dangerous venom.
The great earthen lizard could be found all over the evergreen hills. It could even grow into the soul step. In the soul step, it would gain the ability to manipulate the earth and it would be extremely dangerous.
But the great earthen lizard in front of him was only at the fifth circle level. If it was any other beast, Bai Yun would not have much trouble killing it. But the ability of the great earthen lizards to move underground made it an annoyance.
Seeing that its sneak attack failed, the lizard slid back into the ground. Once most beasts took hold of a prey, it would not let go. So Bai Yun knew that the lizard was still around.
Bai Yun picked up the sword with his soul tendril and brought it over. Bai Yun was waiting for the attack of the lizard.
Suddenly the ground beneath Bai Yun opened up and a pair of jaws appeared beneath his feet. Bai Yun jumped up, somersaulted, and slashed down with his sword. The sword collided with the jaws of the great earthen lizard. But it only cracked a single scale of the lizard. As an earth element beast, the most powerful part of the lizard was its defense.
The lizard immediately slinked back to the ground. Bai Yun once again waited for it to attack.
Bai Yun did not have to wait long. The ground behind him opened up and a powerful tail lashed out at Bai Yun. Bai Yun leaped up to escape the attack and slashed down, but it did not injure the beast.
One after another the game of hide and seek continued. The lizard would attack suddenly from the ground from various positions, and Bai Yun would dodge its attacks, and attack back. But Bai Yun's rushed attacks could only at most crack the lizard's scales.
As time went on Bai Yun realized that this tactic won't work. If he lost concentration for even a moment, then it would be all over for him. He had to finish it quickly.
The greatest strength of the great earthen lizard was its ability to hide in the ground. Once it is taken out of the ground, its danger would reduce.
So Bai Yun decided to change his strategy. When the tail of the lizard lashed out at him again, Bai Yun reacted a little late. Instead of leaping out of the way, he collided with the tail, which send him flying. He fell on the ground and started to heave in pain.
The lizard, thinking that Bai Yun was injured, ran over to him excitedly. Seeing the lizard getting closer, Bai Yun unknowing smiled a little.
Seeing this the lizard's vigilance suddenly rose. It turned around, and tried to return back to the ground.
But Bai Yun cast windless motion and appeared behind the lizard in an instance. Bai Yun grabbed hold of the lizard's tail and started to pull strongly. The lizard already had the first two claws in the ground and was trying to escape Bai Yun's clutches by burrowing to the ground. But Bai Yun did not want to let the lizard do that.
Bai Yun used his full strength including his soul tendrils to pull the lizard out of the ground. The ground beneath Bai Yun's feet even cracked from the force. Bit, by bit, the lizard was slowly pulled from the ground.
As more and more of the lizard was pulled out, the resistance of the lizard reduced. Finally, Bai Yun completely pulled the lizard out of the ground. Then, he threw the lizard up into the air.
As a great earthen lizard, its home was the ground. Its power was greatly reduced in the air. So it screamed as it flew.
Bai Yun then jumped up straight towards the lizard. The lizard had flipped over by now and did not see Bai Yun approaching. Bai Yun closed his eyes, and put his sword back in the sheath. Silently he approached the lizard.
The moment Bai Yun neared the lizard, he activated sword drawing. Faster than the eye could see, Bai Yun's sword flashed through the air. It left a three inch deep and two foot long gash on the right side of the great earthen lizard.
The geat earthen lizard fell on the ground and looked up at Bai Yun with fear in its eyes. It knew that it was no match for Bai Yun and tried to escape. But Bai Yun saw what it was planning and immediately made a move. He was still in the air, and couldn't attack it directly. So Bai Yun grabbed a bit of soil and pressed it against the lizard's wound. The lizard screamed in pain and rolled on the ground in agony. But it finally picked itself up and tried to escape once again, but suddenly Bai Yun's sword stabbed into the wound.
Bai Yun had thrown the sword and directed it with his soul tendrils. The pain of the stab, made the lizard freeze in pain. But before it could recover Bai Yun had landed near it and kicked the sword deeper into the lizard. The lizard flew back by the force of the kick. But as it flew, it desperately reached out with his claws, leaving four deep gashes on Bai Yun's right calf.
Bai Yun approached the lizard in an instant. His right hand lit up with a yellow red glow and he slammed it into the open wound. The explosion of the lion's roar caused the wound to tear open and a lot of blood to pour out which covered Bai Yun.
Bai Yun stood there panting a little as he stood over the great earthen lizard's corpse. Suddenly he heard some noise coming from behind him. Bai Yun turned around to look and saw a few adventurers coming out from behind a few trees. They stared at Bai Yun and then at the great earthen lizard. Bai Yun figured that they must have been drawn here by the sound of the fight.
For a moment the group and Bai Yun stared at each other. Then the man who looked to be the leader of the group smiled and nodded at Bai Yun and then they slowly retreated. Seeing how easily Bai Yun solved the great earthen lizard, they did not want to tangle with him, and decided to retreat.
Bai Yun gave out a small breath and sat down next to the lizard.
He had wasted too much energy in the fight just now. If the group had decide to attack, Bai Yun would have had to run away.
Thankfully everything ended peacefully.
