130 Heading to poison valley

Bai Yun woke up early the next day and started to think about what he should do. He couldn't simply sit around and wait for things to happen.

There were a few interesting places near terracotta hill. Bai Yun had read about them in the clan library. He had also asked about a few of them when he was out wandering about the city.

After a long time, Bai Yun finally decided on a location to go to: Poison valley.

Poison valley was a large serpentine valley near terracotta hill. The valley was covered by a thin poisonous miasma. This caused many of the plants and demonic beasts in the valley to mutate and take on poisonous characteristics. There we even some poisonous minerals that could be found in poison valley if one was lucky.

There were two reasons that Bai Yun wanted to go to poison valley. One was that even though it was extremely dangerous, it also had a lot of rare medicinal ingredients. It was almost all poisonous though. But with Bai Yun's achievements in alchemy, he could turn those poisonous herbs into medicine. He could even create medicines that could help him get started on the second step of body path, muscle tempting. Currently, both his qi and soul cultivation had reached the second realm of the qi step. Only the body tempering path was lagging behind.

Another reason was that poison valley was a place with many poisonous ingredients and also with many varieties of poisons. Bai Yun could make very powerful poison pills from them. He could also collect these poisons and some other herbs to build hundred poison immunity.

Hundred poison immunity was a special artificial physique that Bai Yun found in the alchemy gods legacy. By undergoing a special process, it was possible to gain it. It did not mean that one would be immune to a hundred poisons. It meant that one would be immune to a variety of weaker poisons and the effects of many stronger ones would be weakened.

And above this was thousand poison immunity and ten thousand poison immunity and so on. As the level increased, the resistance to poisons would also increase. But even the hundred poison immunity was quite valuable. If he had that when Ye Chen poisoned them, Bai Yun would have been completely unaffected even if he had ingested the poisoned food.

Bai Yun reached the poison valley in a few hours. At the entrance to the valley, he found a lot of people standing there. There were some people who were selling items like detoxification pills and weapons and so on. There were also some people who were standing there hoping to add more people to the team, to make the journey inside easier. There was also a troop of soldiers from the city lord's office standing there to make sure that things ran smoothly.

As Bai Yun walked up to the entrance of the poison valley, he was stopped a couple of times and asked to join a group. But Bai Yun quickly turned them down. If this was a place Bai Yun did not know anything about, he might have considered joining up with others. But Bai Yun had a rudimentary understanding of poison valley from what he had read in the clan library. Also, Bai Yun was confident that he could handle even the greatest danger here. Thus Bai Yun decided to brave this and head inwards by himself, as anyone else would only slow him down.

Bai Yun quickly passed by the crowd of people and headed to the entrance of poison valley. The entrance of poison valley was a small crack in between two cliffs. Even though it was called a small crack, it was wide enough for two carriages to pass side by side. There were many people going in and out of the entrance every moment. Bai Yun joined the group of people and slipped into the poison valley.

Poison valley was a long valley that was situated in the middle of two cliffs. It curved and turned like a snake for a long time until it ended at a lake. It was from this lake that the poisonous miasma that filled the poison valley originated. Thus the deeper you go, the stronger the miasma became. It also meant that the stronger demonic beasts and the stronger poisonous materials would be found in the depths of the valley.

After Bai Yun entered the valley he quickly separated from the group of people who were around him, and started to move independently. He did not have a specific destination in mind and simply wandered from one place to another. After a lot of twists and turns, Bai Yun suddenly found himself alone in a wooded area.

The environment of poison valley varied wildly from place to place. The poisonous miasma contained many different types of poisons, but depending on the location, the concentrations of various poisons in the miasma would vary. This gave birth to different locations having wildly different properties.

Bai Yun stopped walking when he entered the wooded area. This was not because he saw something. It was because he couldn't hear something. To be specific, Bai Yun could not hear anything.

In any place, there would small critters and other kinds of animals living. It was all but impossible to eliminate all of them. Their voice would be heard anywhere, even in poison valley, as Bai Yun walked in. The only place such creatures would not live in was if a predator capable of killing them all was nearby.

In an instant, Bai Yun's concentration went through the roof. Bai Yun slowly focussed his attention and realised that the concentration of miasma around him had started to increase.

The concentration of background miasma that was spread throughout the poison valley was quite small. For Bai Yun who had reached the foundation establishment realm, the peak of skin sewing and also had the hundred beast flame, this concentration of miasma could be ignored. But there were places in poison valley that had a higher concentration of miasma. To enter those places, Bai Yun had to take an antidote beforehand, or else he could be slowly poisoned, and it would be difficult to get rid of that poison quickly. For example, the city lord's son got poisoned in one of the hotspots. Unfortunately, anything worthwhile would almost exclusively be found in these hotspots, so it was necessary to enter them.

Bai Yun took out a small strip of paper from a sealed jar he had and slowly exposed it to the miasma. This paper would change colour depending on which component of the miasma was strongest at the current location. For different components of the miasma, there were different antidotes. Thus it was important to figure out which component of the miasma was dominant in an area so that one could take the correct antidote. There was also a general antidote that would work irrespective of the dominant component, but it was costly, and Bai Yun only bought a few of them.

The testing paper turned orange, and Bai Yun quickly ate the corresponding antidote of the colour. After this Bai Yun quietly walked into the wooded area. If there was anything here that was strong enough to keep the insects out, then it was probably worth Bai Yun's time.

The medicine ingredients for hundred poison immunity did not have a specific recipe. It was more important to find various kinds of poisons that acted in various ways. It was necessary to find both plant based, animal based and mineral based poisons. There needed to be poisons that both thickened the blood, as well as poisons that thinned the blood. There needed to be poisons that affected the brain, and poisons that affected the muscles. Thus a variety of poisons had to be collected and then refined together to make a medicine that could give you hundred poison immunity.

Ba Yun slowly walked forward. As he walked, Bai Yun could not hear anything. Nothing suspicious also entered his eyes. But Bai Yun was careful and walked forward slowly.

As he walked forward, Bai Yun yawned. Ignoring this Bai Yun continued forward. Slowly Bai Yun's steps became more and more unsteady. Soon Bai Yun was swaying as he walked. The things in front of his eyes seemed to turn blurry. Bai Yun's pace slightly increased. Step by step, Bai Yun started to walk deeper into the wooded area.

Suddenly Bai Yun's god devil sense trembled in warning. In an instant, Bai Yun woke up from his trance. For a moment an eery feeling came over Bai Yun. As the warning of the god devil sense receded, Bai Yun found himself falling back into a trance once again.

Bai Yun sharply bit down on his tongue. As blood filled his mouth, the pain jolted him awake. Bai Yun looked around himself rapidly, but he could not find anything that was the cause for the trance. He also analyzed himself with the god devil sense, but he couldn't find anything in him that could be a site for a poison to enter him. Bai Yun knew that he only had a few seconds at best before he fell back into the trance and he had to escape, or at least find a way to stop falling into the trance.

Without any other option, Bai Yun opened the god and devil eyes. And at the same moment his eyes lit up in purple and gold, Bai Yun froze. The view in front of him had completely changed.

Floating in front of him were millions of small particles. They were too small to be seen normally, but they couldn't escape the power of the god and devil eyes. In an instant, all of them were clearly seen by Bai Yun. They were small yellow orange particles that had small spikes on them. They were entering Bai Yun's body as he breathed.

In an instant Bai Yun realised what the particles were. They were hallucinogenic pollen. Without wasting a moment, Bai Yun turned around and ran back out the way he came in. As he did so, he deactivated god and devil eyes, and started to use soundless motion to speed up. At the same time, a grey flame covered Bai Yun. It was the hundred beast flame. It was burning up any pollen that was getting close to him.

Bai Yun had wasted quite a lot of qi when he activated god and devil eyes, so he was running low on qi by now. But even then he barely reached the outside of the wooded area by the time his qi ran out. Bai Yun was now standing outside the wooded area naked and panting. Thankfully the hundred beast flame had burned the pollen that had entered him, so he was able to at least partially get his wits back. Even though there was still a trace of muddle headedness in him, Bai Yun was focused enough to think clearly.

Bai Yun quickly put on new clothes from his storage ring, and then sat down to recover his qi. As he sat down a small smile danced at the edge of his lips.

Hallucinogenic pollen ticked two boxes in his poison immunity ingredient list.
