227 Monke and the Spy
"Hey Lina, you said something about magic existing in this world because of spying on two of those involved, right?" Catalina looked at me for a brief moment, before nodding her head, her tail once again swishing around behind her as she chewed on her dinner.
"Yep. Why are you asking right now, Jion?"
"Well, just wanted to know about those humans who talked about it. They might be posing as one of the evacuees." I rubbed my chin as I closed my eyes. "Who knows, there might be more than just the two of them inside, and with more than a thousand people currently inside my Dungeon, that's going to be a pain in the ass to manage."
"… Hold on, let me get something first." Catalina grabbed something from her hammerspace before putting it on the table next to her plate. "This will show you my memories I allow you to view."
"Huh, handy." She gave me a sly smile before handing it over to me. Grabbing the device that looked like a VR headset, I placed it over my eyes.
Suddenly, I was viewing a room in front of me, with my human arms grasping around my naked chest.
"Ah! Jionnn!!!"
"… For fuck's sake, Lina. I did not sigh up to watch you masturbate." She gave me a loud chuckle before the scene changed to that of a damp alleyway. Two humans were talking about something in the darkness.
"Hmmm…" I hummed as I stored the faces of the two inside my memory. Taking off the headset, I gave it back to Catalina, who was once again munching on her food. "Thanks for that, Lina."
"No prob, Jion. Now, if you'll excuse me, I've left my Dungeon for quite some time now. I need to go back." Catalina stood up from her chair and gave me a goodbye hug. "Anyway, see you next time. Don't forget to call me!"
"I won't." The two of us shared a kiss before she went on her way back to her Dungeon.

"Come Daniel, take a seat." I eyed the young adult who slowly made his way towards the chair provided and sat down, all the while his eyes never left me. "I have something I wish to ask of you."
"Please, go ahead." Daniel eyed me carefully, a bit of sweat dropping from his brow.
"Very well." I replied while placing my elbows on the table, my hands hovering over my lips. "I will be blunt. What was the job given to you by your employer?"
"Pardon?" Daniel went silent for a good few seconds before he uttered a response. "What job? I'm still a student, and my part-time job won't be calling me anytime soon due to the typhoon."
"Oh no, I'm not talking about your part-time job. I'm talking about your job, in which you are tasked with infiltrating my Dungeon by someone who knows magic."
After my clarification, the young man did his best impression of a moai before quickly responding.
"Excuse me? Magic? Seriously, I have no idea what you're-"
"Sorry, but feigning ignorance will not get you out of this predicament." I stood up from my seat and circled around the table. "Before I suggested even inviting the evacuees to stay at my Dungeon while the typhoon rages, I learned of a very crucial part of this world that is sadly hidden from the general populace."
I stopped right behind Daniel, who was now sweating bullets.
"That hidden part was, of course, magic. As for how you tie into them, I know you're in cahoots with them." He turned his head to look at me. "So, yes, sorry for trapping you here, but a gorilla's got to do what a gorilla's got to do to protect his territory."
"Now then, mind telling me what job you were tasked with when entering my Dungeon?" I smiled at Daniel, who now looked pale and was close to fainting. We stayed like that for a few moments, before I sighed. "Look, I'll give you some motivation. You know, that Vtuber Rika-chan? She's also staying within my Dungeon. If you give me my answers, I'll let you meet with her."
"SIGN ME UP!" In an instant, his mood turned a 180, his face losing its pale look.
"Good." Returning back to my chair, I stared down at Daniel, who was still anxious, but the thought of meeting his idol overshadowed his fear. "Now then, why are you here?"
It took a few moments before Daniel sighed. "Just gather some information about you and your Dungeon. That's it."
"… That's all? Nothing else? No sabotage my Dungeon? Assassinating anyone? Even just causing a ruckus?" He shook his head, and I widened my eyes. "Seriously, nothing?"
"No. They just wanted me to learn about you and your Dungeon, and relay that information to them." Daniel shrugged as he thought back to his previous jobs with them. "Plus, I'm not a fighter or anything. At most, I just give them a general overview of the situation from a civilian perspective."
"Hmm… I see. Anything you can tell me about their organization?"
"Not much. They appeared before me one day just out of the blue and gave me a lot of money to do what they asked of me, and it was doable by anyone, civilian or not." Daniel looked out of the window. Outside, people went about their days without much hassle. "All I had to do was look at one area, listen to some conversations, and relay to them what I heard. As for their goal, they keep on blabbing about world balance or some shit."
"Is that all you know?"
"Yes, that's all I know." Daniel nodded before I went into my thoughts.
'Okay, I can tell he isn't lying, but he isn't giving me the full story either. Still, if I could forcefully get the information out of him, I would have done so, but I don't have the skills to do so. And torture is out of the idea because of my agreement with their government.' I closed my eyes as I stewed in my thoughts. 'Nothing much I could do here but let him leave for the moment. He also can't get out because of the typhoon outside, so this gives me time to prepare.'
"Thank you for your time, Daniel. You're free to leave. Also, Rika-chan is your neighbor, in case you didn't know." At the mention of Rika-chan being his neighbor, Daniel's eyes widened in surprise and glee, before giving me a brief farewell.
Once he was outside my office and the building as well, I quickly accessed the Dungeon Communication and contacted the man fit for this kind of job.
Or well, woman.
"Jionni? Do you need something?"
"Hey, Lara. Mind keeping an eye out for this man." I placed a picture of Daniel on the screen. God, I love technology. "Just keep an eye out for him and if he does anything suspicious, such as tampering or sabotage, let me know."
"Sure! I've been feeling bored for a few days now. Better this than nothing." And with that, I bid her farewell and cut the connection off. As for why Lara was the best one for the job, she's a gnome. She's tiny, and she's good at hiding. Plus, if one were to look at her, she would look just like a child, and if there's one thing I know in life, it's that children are dangerous creatures.
Now, I'm not saying that children are dangerous in that sort of way; I'm just saying that children could, most of the time, manipulate adults to do their bidding. Just a few tears there, a few sobs here, and voila, you now have an adult eating out of the palm of your hands.
Most kids do this subconsciously, an instinct they have honed during their short lifespan. I mean, just think of it. You're hungry. Go cry. Momma comes in and gives you food. Do that again when you're hungry. Momma comes in again and gives you food.
That's just a child without any rational thinking or logical reasoning. However, if a child had those two, then it would be possible for a child to manipulate an adult just by doing some tiny actions, such as crying.
'I swear, the people who say children are to be spoiled, they can go suffer the consequences of having a spoiled adult as their offspring.'
Shaking my head, I grabbed my phone once more before accessing MyTube. 'Now, who was this Rika-chan Daniel was simping over?'
Seeing that she was currently doing a livestream, I tuned in and saw that she was playing a classic game released nearly a decade ago. The very great motto of "Prepare to Die" being the game's number one slogan.
"Feel the feels of the plin plin plon." I nodded my head sagely as Rika-chan continued to fight the final boss with the somber piano playing in the background. As she did so, she began wailing like a baby, crying out how tragic this game was.
I mean, that's the point.
My lips twitched up slightly as I continued watching the Vtuber die and repeat the boss a few more times before she won.
"Yep. Why are you asking right now, Jion?"
"Well, just wanted to know about those humans who talked about it. They might be posing as one of the evacuees." I rubbed my chin as I closed my eyes.
