16 Pewter Gym Pt.2

I've been thinking for a while. What is the meaning of the STATS? I take as example SPEED. In the games from my previews life, it indicated who would attack first. But in this world, the battles happen in real time, and many times both pokemon, attack each other simultaneously.

If that's the case, how does it affect the pokemon to have greater SPEED? It can't just be about running speed, I mean, some pokemon cannot even move on land. What about Pidgeot? Its said that he can fly at speed of sound, but his SPEED is just 101.

If my theory is correct, SPEED is affecting many aspects. Between them, running speed, and attack speed. But also Reflexes and reaction speed, and this is important. Do it means that evasion is influenced by SPEED?

Brock: "Onix, goooo!"

*ROOOOAAAAAR*

Woah, I knew that he was big but he is huge!

I grabbed Mankey's pokeball from my belt. I know that we have the advantage in types but Mankey is many levels below Onix. It will not be an easy fight.

Is all up to you, buddy

Red: "Come, Mankey!"

Mankey did appears and looked at Onix, he looks eager to fight against him.

Brock: "A Mankey? It's a good choice, but that doesn't mean that you already win. Onix, Tackle attack!"

Red: "Mankey, you can dodge that. Keep moving and seek for a chance to hit."

Mankey started to jump above the rocks, trying to get close to Onix.

Onix threw himself against Mankey, but it wasn't fast enough since Mankey did move to another rock dodging his attack. Mankey did take the chance and rush to attack Onix.

Red: "Now, Mankey! Low Kick!

Mankey jumped and kicked Onix with full force.

*ROOOAAAAAR*

Brock: "Onix, use Dig and get away from there!"

What? He knows Dig?

Red: "Mankey! hurry up and move, get high ground!"

Damn it, Onix is not supposed to know that move.

He is coming... but where?

Earth is shaking.

Red: "Get out of there! Jump, now!

Onix surged raising a cloud of dust. A second later and Mankey would have been beaten.

Before Mankey landed something came out from behind the dust at full speed.

Red: "Mankey! Look out!"

Mankey didn't even have time to turn around when Onix's tail land on him and send him flying against the rocks. That was Slam, why these moves keep popping up!?

F*ck...Mankey received too much damage. He is already on his knees.

Red: "Get up Mankey, you have to move away from there!"

Brock: "It's too late. Onix, Tackle attack!"

Come on Mankey, I know that you are not done.

Onix used Tackle again, Mankey barely jumped to the side and fell rolling before standing up gasping for air.

Red: "Well done buddy! Go and finish him with another Low Kick!"

Brock: "This is far from finished. Onix, use Harden!"

Something did glow in pale blue behind the dust an instant before Mankey dealt the blow.

*ROOOOOAAAR*

Onix roared in pain while enduring the attack. Mankey withdrew toward to me while gasping.

I turned my eyes toward the cloud of dust that is settling.

You've got to be kidding me.

Brock: "Mankey is not strong enough to pass across Onix's defenses. Onix, use Harden again!"

His defense has been boosted two times, Low Kick will not be enough to finish him.

This is not over, Mankey can win this fight. The same glow from before appears on Onix's surface. I need to hurry up.

Red: "Mankey. use Focus Energy!"

Mankey closed his eyes and take a deep breath. His muscles tensed while faint red light surrounded him.

Brock: "Onix. Uses Tackle!"

Mankey did open his eyes and prepare to attack.

Red: "This match is ours! Go, Mankey, use Karate Chop!"

Onix and Mankey rushed to the center of the arena. Just when they close to hit each other, Onix flinched in pain for an instant. Mankey managed to dodge by close, before turn his body and threw his attack at Onix.

*ROOOOAAAR*

Brock: "No! Onix!"

Onix collapses on the ground. Mankey held his breath for a seconds before taking a deep breath.

Red: "Finally..."

Kid: "You didn't have to hurt Onix that much! You, bully!"

Red: "What?" Oh, yeah. Brock's brothers and sisters.

Brock: "Stop it! Get out, all of you. This is an official match and he won it fairly."

Girl: "But Brock! we know that you love your pokemon too much!"

Kid: "Yeah, we can't just watch Onix suffer like this."

Brock walked toward Onix and pat him. "You fought well Onix, go and rest. I'll take you to the pokemon center a soon as I can."

He then approached me.

Brock: "That was a great battle. This is for you, as proof of your victory, here's the Boulder Badge."

Red: "My first badge..." I was about to thank him for the battle when Mankey jumped toward me. I just smiled and held him in my arms for a while.

Red: "Hehe, you were awesome the Mankey" I take my cap and put him on his head.

"Let's keep getting stronger, ok?"

Mankey celebrated his victory, and after a few seconds, he fell asleep in my arms. He sure is tired. I returned him to his pokeball and wear my cap again.

Red: "Sorry for the wait, it was an awesome battle, Brock."

Misty: "Your pokemon are very tired. Hurry up and take them to the pokemon center."

Red: "That's true. Come, Pikachu." He jumped to my shoulder and started to play with my cap.

"What's the problem Pikachu?"

'pi' He said as he did pat my cap.

"You want to wear it too?"

'pikachuuu'

I put the cap on his head. Then I turned toward Brock. "Are you coming with us?"

Brock: "Yes." He turned toward his family. "Kids, you stays here and guard the house."

They just did nod and walk to another room. It seems that they respect him a lot

I talked a lot with Brock while we walked to the Pokemon Center, he is really a genius about pokemon breeding. He told me about his dream of being the world best pokemon breeder, but how he can't because he has to look out for his brothers and sisters.

After we walked into the pokemon center, Nurse Joy got angry at us and told us that our pokemon were exhausted and it will be better if we leave them there for a couple of hours.

Red: "Now, what to do...You have any idea Misty?"

Misty: "Well, its almost noon. We can go for a meal."

Red: "Hamburgers again? You will gain weight if you keep like that." I faked to be worried.

Misty: "Mind your business, and I do not even need to exercise to be fit."

Red: "Sure, whatever you say." I smirked.

Misty: "Hmph."

She walked away, annoyed by my comment.

Brock: "If you want, you can to my house and eat with us. I have to cook a lot, anyways."

Red: "Nice, you are coming Misty?"

She doesn't answer me and walked toward Brock.

Misty: "Thank you, Brook, I'll take your offer."

We walked to Pewter Gym. On the way there we come across Flint. He was trying to go back to his house but don't have the courage to confront his family.

Brock: "Do you need something?"

Flint: "W-What!?"

Brock: "This road just leads to the Gym and my house."

Flint: "S-Sorry, I just got lost."

Oh come on, you cant be that coward. It's your fault that Brook is wasting his potential here.

I did signal Pikachu to get closer. and talk to him in low voice.

'pika?'

Red: "Pikachu, do you think that you can take away that man's fake beard?"

He looked curious at Flint and then at me.

'pi pi' he nods.

Brock was just ending to giving some indications.

Flint: "Thank you, young man, I'll be go-"

'Pika pi!'

At that moment Pikachu grabbed his beard and take it away.

Flint: "No! Give me that back!"

Brock: "You are..."

Flint: "Sorry, you've got the wrong person." He turns his face away.

Brock: "My father." He grabbed Flint by the shoulders so that he doesn't escape, and then the looked at me.

Brock: "I'm sorry Red, but I have something to do right now. I hope you can excuse me."

And he just walked away, dragging his father with him.

Misty: "My food..."

Red: "Okay, burgers on me! Let's go."

I was about to start to walk before turning around.

Red: "You will not going to throw a tantrum like a little kid, you will?"

Misty: "Just get on with it." She said annoyed as she walked ahead of me.

Red: "She must be very hungry. Don't you think Pikachu?"

'pikachu'

Misty: "Shut up!"
