26 Q&A session
It had been about ten minutes since the mission completion prompt had sounded inside everyone's head. Everyone except Oliver was back inside the room where they all started, with a few more chairs accompanying them.
Oliver shortly walked into the room with drops of water still hanging on the edge of his hair.
Oliver had cleaned all the blood and gore on his body and got into a new set of brown coloured medieval clothes, which were unsurprisingly uncomfortable. Oliver didn't think it was the fault of the technology of the given time, rather a certain maid who seemed to have some kind of innate ability to glare.
Lena was the first to react. She jumped out her chair, still in her heavy aristocratic dress and high heels, and took Oliver into a powerful hug... a hug fueled by all her maternal love.
A very difficult thing to bear for young men. It was okay if your mom was ageing properly. If not, you have a hot milf shoving your face directly into her mountains of bliss. If you have great will power, congratulations! you were able to save yourself from a very embarrassing situation. If not, please do the best impression of a shrimp shuffling out of the said place on two legs.
Fortunately, Oliver had a good grasp of himself. He gave her a quick hug and used his superior physical attributes to slip out of the cage of social death.
Emily and Ashely were just behind her, though Ashely appeared a little reluctant. Although Oliver was no psychologist but he could see the fear as clear as a sunny day on that petite face of hers.
"Are you hurt anywhere?" Emily asked in her nice girl voice.
Oliver lifted up his brown top and said, "Not really. Just a few scratches that should finish healing soon."
Thin red lines were decorating Oliver's ripped torso. Though they seemed to disappear even as they continued to speak. The change was clearly visible to the naked eyes.
"Are you even human?" Ashely blurted that out because of how surprised she was due to Oliver's actions breaking her reality more and more, the longer she stayed around him.
Emily's and Lena's expression froze at the exact same moment. They were about to berate Ashely for her thoughtless comment, but Oliver beat them to it.
While scratching the back of his head Oliver said in a nonchalant manner, "Hmm, not really. I recently changed my bloodline to a Saiyan's. You know the one from Dragon Ball Z."
As if to emphasize his point, Oliver's left this waist and started swinging in front of the girls.
Emily's and Lena's expressions were still frozen in time. Ashely's expression was quick to accompany them.
Oliver quickly realized that they weren't able to handle the news well. So, he gave a loud cough accompanied by some over exaggerated throat clearing noises to break the awkward atmosphere.
"Hey, let's take a seat first. I will tell you a little about what is happening and then you all can ask one question each. I hope this will be enough to assuage your curiosity."
Oliver took a seat on one of the newly brought chairs in the room. Lena and the girls took their designated chairs as Oliver nagged them about something related to 'keeping up appearances'.
"First, thanks a lot, Jeff. Almost thought that I would have to break one of my limbs there to get out of the situation."
Jeff gave a small smile and a slight bow to acknowledge the compliment.
After that, for the next couple of minutes, Oliver gave a small description of what was going on. He mentioned Orb... as a mysterious being with an equally mysterious purpose.
He was just unlucky *cough* lucky *cough* to be selected as a thing called candidate. Now he had to go into the worlds of famous and not so famous movies, games, anime, and anything more and complete the main mission. He also talked about SVPs and their importance in survival in future mission worlds.
He finished his speech by mentioning that there was a breach into the dimensional barrier of their world from this world. As it came out of nowhere so he had to take them with himself if he didn't want them to die due to space distortion. He completely forgot to mention that all of this wouldn't have happened if he wasn't near them.
"So, any questions you would like to ask? But keep in mind, only one question each person."
Although Ashely was still scared of Oliver, the reporter inside her was not ready to be defeated so easily. "So, how strong are you really?"
"If in terms of pure attributes, then I'm at least 10 times stronger than the strongest human around."
"Wow, That's so cool! So, have-"
"Only one question per person Ashely." Oliver firmly but gently stopped her from asking further questions. He then turned to look at his mother and Emily.
Emily gave a small sigh and said, "So, how much danger are we actually in?"
Oliver mused over a proper answer in his thoughts as he didn't want to scare them or make them too carefree.
"If you know anything about fantasy worlds you should know that death and murder are not a very foreign concept here. But that doesn't mean that they are openly accepted. So, you won't find people jumping out of bushes to kill you. But assassins are a very real possibility. As you will be staying away from the frontline, I don't think you will be in any danger... as long as you stay alert."
Emily chewed her lips while contemplating Oliver's answer. "So, people on the frontline will be in a lot of danger?"
Oliver just gave her a polite smile in response.
Lena was impatiently tapping her fingers while waiting for Ashely and Emily to be done. She had to drill a certain 'obedient' so about some small secrets he had been keeping.
"Mr Oliver Hanover, what are the conditions for you to stop being a candidate?"
Oliver instinctively gulped all the saliva down his mouth when he heard his full name being called out in that tone.
He looked into Lena's eyes. She was deeply staring into his.
"That, uh... you know after-"
"Don't. Even. Try. To. Lie."
Oliver once again stared into the smouldering eyes that were intensely staring back at him.
"As of now, the only possible way is my death. According to the Orb, it will change in future."
'Sigh, Why did she have to use that look. It's not fair at all. I'm not able to keep secrets for long when under the scrutiny of that look.'
...
Ten minutes later; Consoling-a-distraught-mother-in-front-of-his-subordinates moments later.
Oliver looked over to his 7 subordinates who were silently and patiently waiting for further instructions.
"Ellie, I will be giving you an important job right now. I want you to interrogate the smallest orc we captured. He was near their leader during the whole battle, so he may have some valuable information. Jeff will be there to help you if you need anything."
Ellie gave a silent nod, proceeded to stare a few seconds at Jeff, who finally got the hint. And both of them silently exited the meeting room.
He then focused his attention on the remaining Valkyrja members and Romano.
"Romano does have some practical experience in fighting but you girls are complete noobs. Although you do have the Saiyan bloodline so that is a huge boost in your favour. There are seven orcs. I want them dead by tomorrow. Each of you will fight one-on-one with an orc and then all of you will fight the remaining two together. Any questions?"
After no one replied for five seconds, Romano stood up from his seat and said, "Boss, I will make sure that we finish this task by tomorrow."
Oliver gave a nod and said, "Good. And keep that old knight, what was his name? Ronald, right? together with you. Just in case."
"Sure thing boss."
