8 Chapter 7
EDIT: Not an update just making some changes. They are a bit important though. First, Instead of using "|" for Grace's speech I will use ">". In the text editor it shows that all "|" are at the beginning of a new line but it doesn't translate properly when published. *Sigh* No one even commented about it.
Second, Just making small changes to make it more obvious that Oliver came back in time(2 years) as well as back to Earth.
..........
Oliver quietly looked at the sun rising. He had been sitting on his porch for almost 10 minutes now. If someone looked closely enough they could find traces of dried tear around his eyes.
'Grace I'm back.'
>
'Hmm, seems like you have already hacked into my Wi-fi, huh?'
>
'Be careful not to get caught.'
>
'That's good to hear.' With that said Oliver started staring at the rising sun again.
The first thing that Oliver did when he came back to his own world was to check the date on the newspaper. Today's newspaper had been quietly lying on the front porch waiting for someone to collect it. He had hurriedly checked the date on top of the front page with shaking hands. For a few moments he couldn't even concentrate properly because of fast his heart pounding.
'I'm back in time! Just like my future self said. The year written is two years before the day I committed suicide.' Tears had started streaming down his face, and so he had quietly took a seat on the chair nearby thinking about nothing at all, an essential skill every man has.
After 10 more minutes of nothingness someone came out from the house and said, "Good Morning Oliver. I'm very grateful to your for letting me stay here for the night."
Oliver couldn't help but give a small smile when he heard Emily speaking in her slightly shy and polite manner. It was very clear that she wasn't used to talking politely.
"Good Morning Emily! Hope you had a good sleep. We have a lot to do today! Like buy some new clothes for you, buy a new mattress, and a whole lot of hygiene product for girls."
Emily was visibly confused by the sudden burst of energy from someone so early in the morning, but her rationality kicked in soon and she said in an urgent manner, "No need for that Oliver. I will take the couch from today on. I have an extra pair of clothes too, so I can make every thing work by wearing them on alternate days. I have already imposed on you enough. I don't want to increase your burden anymore than necessary. I wanted to repay you for it by helping around the house, and I was just thinking that maybe I could cook the food here everyday as I don't want to be a freeloader. I will do a great job. You can trust me."
Emily's speech had started becoming incoherent as it progressed further. But they way she twiddled her fingers was so cute that Oliver didn't have the mood to stop her. He just sat there watched her silently with a gentle smile, waiting for the moment when she would realize that she was just mumbling to herself by this point .
Emily wasn't a fool and she quickly realized the embarrassing situation she was in.
"I'm going to take a quick bath and I will prepare the breakfast after that." After a hurried shout she scampered into the bathroom.
'Ah, she is so cute.'
Oliver stood up and walked into his bedroom to change his clothes while thinking about his present situation and future course of action. If he wanted Emily to remain so cute forever, he had to make sure that she was alive first. And for that to happen certain things needed to be done. Like killing her would-be murderer.
'Grace, I have some tasks for you. Remind me ASAP after you complete them.'
>
'First, could you please find as much information as possible about a woman named Brittany Jones. She was in the same high school as me. I have to kill her, so try to come up with some good plans too. Murder is illegal so keep that in mind.'
>
'Second, could you please find out ways to buy land in South Africa. A country with large coastline will be ideal for my purposes. Try to prioritize Somalia but use your own discretion if it is too tough there.'
>
'Hmm, check if there's a Tim Horto** nearby. I wanted to have some good sandwich and coffee in my stomach before I accompany a girl to a shopping trip.'
>
'Good. We are going there soon.'
>
Oliver walked out of his room after putting on a new pair of jeans, a simple red t-shirt, and a pair of black vans old skool.
Emily still hadn't come out of the bathroom, so he started thinking about his most important problem in saving Earth - money.
'Grace, I was planning to make you develop the holographic phone that was popular in the other world about 200 years ago. Although I can get a lots of money after the product is launched successfully, but it will be too late as I only have one year to create some kind of army like organization to resist an unknown enemy.'
>
Oliver started contemplating seriously over Grace's advice. After some time, he gave a small sigh of annoyance and acceptance.
'It looks like I am going to become a great super villain pretty soon, huh?'
Before his thoughts could go any deeper down the rabbit hole Emily's polite voice broke him out of it.
"Oliver, I have freshened up. I will start preparing the breakfast now. Is there anything you prefer?"
Oliver stood up and started walking towards his car. "Let's go out today. I have nothing substantial in the fridge. We will have breakfast at a nearby Tim Horto**. We can go for grocery shopping after that."
Seeing that Oliver was already preparing to sit in his car, Emily could only follow behind him.
The ride was pretty short and silent. They were able to order some sandwiches and large mocha coffees without any problem or long queues. It was mostly due to the fact that it was still 7 in the morning.
Emily had been very quiet during the whole thing and Oliver knew she must be thinking about something stupid like how she could repay him or how she was a burden to him. It wasn't her fault though. Oliver her met parents eight months into the future and he had immediately understood the meaning of the word douche bag.
Due to her upbringing Emily was very respectful and polite to people who had helped her without demanding something in return. As for others, she treated then either as her rivals or her enemies. Yes, rivals and enemies! She played fair with her rivals, but all bets were off if the other person was an enemy.
When you are fighting your own parents for basic human rights, things happen to your personality…unspeakable things.
Emily had finally decided to open her mouth. "Oliver why did you help me yesterday? Standing in the rain with all my meager belongings I completely looked like a street tramp. So, why? Why did you stop your car and talked politely to me? I can give you nothing in return, yet why are you treating me so nicely?"
Oliver took a sip of his coffee, relished it taste and said, "That is very simple....
