6 Chapter 5

Oliver could see that even though the army of Hive creatures was very dense, but gaps kept appearing and disappearing as the army rushed forward.

|Oliver quickly look at 11:00 clock.

Oliver immediately turned his head and found a Goliath with a big red dot flashing on it. He took out his melee weapons – two 50 cm long machetes, strong and sharp enough to cut through exoskeletons of the giant bugs without much damage to themselves, and lunged at the creature.

Before the Goliath could make a proper response, Oliver plunged his machetes into its eyes.

[You have killed a Goliath class creature. +100 SVP.]

With a hideous screech the creature fell down with a heavy thud. But even before it had touched the ground Oliver had already moved on to his next target.

He ran with all of his might and crashed into it. The creature was obliterated into a mess of blood and meat due to impact. But Oliver didn't think much about his success. There was another target right next to the dead one. He slashed at its abdomen and destroyed all its important organs straight away and rushed towards his next target.

The notifications kept on ringing in his head, but Oliver had stopped paying attention to them. It wasn't that he didn't want to check about his achievements, but there was a very compelling reason not to do so. Oliver had realized early on in his training that the battlefield was a very cruel place, a momentary lack in focus was all it took to end up as a nice lunch.

So, he kept on thinking about only one thing in his mind – kill anything with the red dot on it. Time kept passing by and the war started becoming more and more intense. But Oliver's momentum didn't diminish a bit.

All the harsh training combined with various serums like FTX-001 truly helped in creating an elite soldier in the shortest time possible.

Oliver looked at his next target and realized that it was a beetle-mantis chimera. It had both a high attack power as well as a high defense value. A very troublesome opponent for most people. But it was the favorite opponent of armored soldiers. Armored soldiers could easily run behind this monstrosity and kill with relative ease.

|Oliver they are a very heavy and slow-moving species. Cut at least one leg from each side of its |body and when it falls down completely empty a full magazine inside its anus.

Grace had said the whole sentence with her usual mature and warm voice. Oliver almost burst out into laughter after hearing a mature woman talk about annihilating anuses using guns. His body didn't though. He quickly slashed away the two back legs of the creature and took out his gun. He was able to find the anus of the creature very easily due to Grace's help.

'So, do I stick the muzzle inside before shooting, or is it okay to do it from a distance?'

|Your choice. Though I suggest shooting from a distance to keep your gun clean.

'Alright.'

Without a second thought Oliver ended the life of the chimera in one of the most humiliating ways possible. As Oliver turned around to look for his next target, he heard a sound inside his head.

*Ding*

[Branch Quest 2 – Completed. Rewards will be calculated and provided after the main quest is completed.]

Before he could be happy about completing his first mission Grace started speaking about something important.

|All your targets have been killed. A teammate is dead. Move to kill his targets.

Oliver didn't reply back. He just started focusing on killing creatures with red dots quickly and efficiently.

Chimeras were a bit tough because of their unpredictable weak spots, but Grace was there to solve it.

Just as Oliver stuck his machete into the heart of the 8th Chimera, Grace suddenly started speaking in an urgent manner.

|Stop the task. Follow the arrow projected in front of you and run away with everything you have.

Although Oliver was a bit surprised by the sudden order, but his hands didn't stop at all. He killed the creature that was behind him and started following the arrow to rush out of the enemy army.

|Three General class creatures were waiting in ambush for Captain Wolf's team. There are also new

|variations of Chimera class present. Captain Wolf has called for full retreat.

'Damn! Are they alive? I mean Captain's team.'

|Three of her team members stayed behind to tie the enemy leaders. Other Seven are retreating

|without any difficulties right now.

'I don't know why but it is a bit relaxing to hear that Captain is still there.'

|Run Oliver. Relax later.

*After an hour – inside Fortress Eryas*

Although Decapitation squad had failed its first mission most members of the squad weren't sad. In fact, some of them could barely stop themselves from smiling. Only 2 soldiers were dead, and only 5 soldiers had incurred serious injuries. In return they had killed all the Armored Goliaths, and only 13 original Chimera creatures were alive.

It was not a perfect score, but it was way above a passing grade.

Captain Wolf walked into the room with a sling around her left arm. Instead of the usual full deployment, her yellow armor was in deactivated mode – just forming some skeletal outlines along her body.

"Everyone did a good job on the mission. Although there were a few complications, but you guys don't need to worry about it. Let the other branches and teams worry about it. Take a break and enjoy your victory soldiers. I will see you after two weeks if nothing unexpected happens."

As Wolf turned to walk out of the room, Oliver hurriedly rushed in front of her.

"Excuse me captain. Can I talk to you alone for a second please?"

Wolf's carefree expression was replaced by a serious one. She started looking straight into Oliver's eyes. Although Oliver wasn't a virgin, but someone as strong as Wolf still made his spine shiver with anticipation and fear as if he was talking to his first love.

The only response he could come up with was gazing back into her eyes, while trying to appear as sincere as possible.

"You can't get out of Decapitation squad before completing one year in it."

"I don't want to leave the squad." Oliver replied back promptly.

"Although I'm single but I'm not looking for a relationship right now."

"Captain with all due respect, I'm not a masochist. I wouldn't want to get the shit beaten out of me by my significant other…. everyday over insignificant matters." Oliver's reply was even faster this time.

"Hmm…so what's up?" Wolf asked as she exited the room.

"Captain is it possible for me to participate in the upcoming defensive battle?"

Wolf was so surprised that she stopped walking for a bit.

"You know Oliver you are a very interesting person. Most soldiers these days only do the bare minimum required out of them. They know that even if they fail there are so many human colonies out there that a new Fortress of Eryas can be created in a moment.

But you, you have been so desperate since the beginning. During training you wouldn't quit until you were dead. You wouldn't log out until your Neuro chip forcibly did it for you. Today on the battlefield too. You killed the highest number of Chimeras. I don't know what you are trying to achieve but I like your style.

Come with me and I will arrange a position for you on the walls. Although you aren't the best gunner in our team, but you will still do an awesome job on the walls."

Oliver was completely blown away by Wolf's words. He didn't know how to respond, so he just said an awkward thanks and quietly followed behind her.

'Her ass and thighs are amazing though.'

|Should I pass these words to her neuro chip?

'Shush Grace, let me enjoy something nice after such a long time. I don't know when I will have the chance to do it again.'
