Everything was intact, the garden full of blooming flowers and inside the house, the furnitures, the wall pictures still in the same arrangements but the only thing missing was Annie.
Lydia and Annie met each other at high school, become best friends and helping each other getting through English class. They're both enrolled in the same university, but a month before they were to be admitted, Annie committed suicide. This made Lydia's world to fall apart. Andy, Annie's older brother was a very successful businessman and CEO of his own company. He was ten years older than Annie and was the one who raised Annie up when she's was nine after their parents got killed in a car accident. Both Andy and Annie were left with a large amounts of trust fund that permitted Andy to persued his business and finance degrees at a local university and that would also have allowed Annie to do the same, degree in Art.
Lydia didn't like dealing with Andy, he always looked at her like someone to be acquire under his possession. Because of this, she always stayed as far away as possible from him if she could. However, no matters what happened, Andy always take good care of his little sister, Annie. Even with his success, he always made his little sister his first priority in his life. He had a passion for building his company and watching it flourish. A bunch of beauties always surrounded themselves to him. No doubt, he made no effort to hide that he was interested in them, which always make him picked the most pretty one to take home for the night.
Andy had always made Lydia felt very uncomfortable since the first time she met him, so this made Lydia and Annie studied at her house most of the time. When Lydia left Annie in her living room with a glass of iced tea and a pile of books, that was the last time she had seen her best friend alive. Lydia had just gone out for half an hour only to the school to get a book they had forgotten. and Annie had agreed to stayed back at Lydia's house and finishing their English essay. They had agreed to go swimming after finishing their school works later.
Its started raining on her way home and realizing she had forgotten to bring her umbrella, she ran all the way home tucking the book under her jacket. Once she got home, she noticed that Annie was gone. Then she phone Annie's house to check if she was home, she got the news that Annie committed suicide and was dead. Lydia just couldn't understand, it didn't make sense at all, Annie was stronger than her and have a bright future ahead, why did she commit suicide? She hoped the letter would give her some kind of answer that she was looking for or at least let her know what had happened. Lydia knew immediately when she reached Annie's house that something was wrong. Andy was definitely not acting like himself at all and it wasn't just about Annie's suicide only.
Lydia arrived at the house and was immediately greeted at the door by Jake, a staff who knew her. Jake who was the main houseman led her to where Andy was, his study. She saw Andy sitting behind his desk with his eyes reddened and his face dishearten. This made Lydia felt sorry for him. Lydia disliked being in this room, the room that she and Annie were banned from entering and then she suddenly she felt her veins was blocked, she had difficulty breathing. The police and ambulance had already gone, taking Annie's lifeless body with them. Lydia could feel the cold chill down her spine and silence within the house. She realized that this house would never feel the same without Annie's sweet laughter filling the whole house.
"Mr. Parker…" she called out quietly.
Andy was staring blankly at a photo of Annie with tears rolling down his cheek and didn't hear her come in. Catching him off guard, which was something he was not used to, he glanced up at her. He looked back down at the photo as he quickly wiped the tears off his cheek.
"You said Annie left me a letter?" she said softly.
Andy pulled open his desk drawer and throwed the letter across the desk towards Lydia. She caught it before it fell to the floor. She opened the sealed envelope which contained pages ripped from Annie's journal. Lydia recognized Annie's writings and read her friend's journal in disbelief, shaking her head and looking back up at Andy. He was staring at her with a cold icy look in his eyes.
"How did this happen?" My father…How could he?" she said bursting into tears.
Lydia had never been close with her father, but to ask her that he was capable of something like this was incomprehensible. Andy stared at her, his eyes piercing into her soul.
"Your father is going to die for what he did to my sister!"
"There has to be some sort of misunderstanding?" Lydia said trying to explained.
Her best friend was dead and now her written journal was accusing Lydia's father of raping her. Her father always liked Annie and treated her better than Lydia at times, but he would never hurt her, would he?
"You read it with your own eyes. Its Annie's own writing, it's all written there, you can't change that!" Andy said pounding his desk with his fist making Lydia jump.
"I need to talk to my father," She said to him running towards the door. He glared at Lydia with vengeance in his eyes.
"I will make him pay for this, I guarantee you that," Andy shouted at her.
She quickly turned around leaving the room to get out of that house, a house that she should get far away from right now.
