21 Meeting the Grandfather
The pokemon doctors were busy working on Quilava, trying to stop him from bleeding.
"More bandages!"
After a stressful couple of hours, Quilava was starting to recover thanks to the doctors hard work.
"Phew! It was touch and go there for a bit but it looks like it should make a full recover." the head doctor said as he wiped his brow. "How's the Espeon?"
"The psychic specialist is still with her." another doctor answered, worry in her voice.
They had all heard on what happened and how these pokemon saved a young girl's life. That's why they were all working so hard to make sure Quilava survived. They all waited outside the room where Espeon was staying, waiting to hear from the specialist.
Finally a short women walked out of the room with a clipboard. Her brown hair was tied up into a bun and brown eyes were framed by a pair of glasses.
"Well Dr. Rue, how is she?" the head doctor who worked on Quilava asked.
Dr. Rue shook her head, a sad expression appeared on her face. "Espeon over taxed her powers saving that girl causing her to damage her mind. She might never be able to use her powers again…"
A couple doctors cursed and others felt like crying. The head doctor kept a calm face and asked, "What can we do?"
"Only one thing can heal her and that would be a mind stone." Dr. Rue said dejectedly. Mind stones were used to strengthen a pokemon's psychic powers but they were extremely rare and expensive. No way a young trainer like Daikon could afford them.
They doctors face all turned ugly, they knew how expensive these stones were.
"Not only that, but Espeon would need two in order to make a full recovery." Dr. Rue continued.
The doctors were crushed, one stone was barely in their reach but two? It was a pipe dream.
Suddenly a young nurse came in and said, "Dr. Rue, I just got off the phone with Professor Oak and he said that the Pokemon League will be footing the bill so please ensure they all make a full recovery!" The nurse was jubilant, everyone had heard what these pokemon did and wanted them to have a full recovery.
"Looks like the heavens won't abandoned these heros." the head doctor said before yelling. "You heard her! I want an S Grade nutrition serum for Quilava and a Chansey egg! Dr. Rue do you think you can manage to find the mind stones?"
She nodded her head and said, "I have some connections. I'll make the call."
"Perfect, now let's heal these two!" he said as all the doctors started working again.
Over in the hospital a similar situation was happening.
"Mrs. Fontain your daughter is stable and out of danger but there is a chance she could become paralyzed." a women with long blonde hair told the mother.
Mrs. Fontain's already red and puffy eyes, starting to leak tears as she looked at her daughter lying unconscious in bed.
"What are her chances?" she asked the doctor.
"25% and that's being generous. There is an operation that can guarantee a full recovery but it's expensive…" the doctor said not bothering to continue. She knew the financial state of the family.
The mother looked heartbroken as she brushed her daughters hair off her face.
"How's the boy?" she asked abstantmindily.
"Honestly it was nothing short of a miracle that he survived. Us doctors can't figure it out." the female doctor said shaking her head. She, like most of the other doctors, had thought he was dead for sure when they saw him, some didn't think they should operate on him because it would be a waste of time.
"He was hurt that bad?" she asked in horror.
"From what the EMT's told us, he and his pokemon fought against the man who kidnapped your daughter while his Espeon sealed your daughter's wound with her powers. Honestly if that Espeon hadn't done what it did, there is a good chance your daughter would be dead right now." the doctor said solemnly, not wanting to sugarcoat it.
Suddenly a nurse walked in, "Sorry to interrupt Doctor but you have a phone call that you must take." she said as she handed her the phone.
The blonde doctor frowned as she took the phone, wondering who it was.
"Hello, this is Dr. Greter."
After a couple of seconds she hung up the phone and handed it back to the nurse.
"I have great news Mrs. Fontain. The Pokemon League will take be taking care of all medical expenses so I am ordering her the operation. You daughter is going to make a full recovery." Dr. Greter smiled brightly at Mrs. Fontaine.
Mrs. Fontaine was stunned, "B-but how?"
"It seems that boy, Daikon has some powerful people behind him." Dr. Greter said.
"Thank goodness." Mrs. Fontaine said as she bent down and kissed her daughter's forehead.

A week went by and Daikon's wounds were healing quickly, leaving the doctors astounded. On the seventh day he finally woke up, feeling groggy and sore.
Opening his eyes, he saw a bright white ceiling with a fluorescent light. He looked down on his body and saw all three of his pokemon sleeping on his bed. Quilava still had some bandages on him but not as many as before. Espeon seemed to be fully recovered, Daikon noticed her jewel on her forehead looked deeper in colour. Dratini was draped across Daikon's chest with his body hanging over both sides of the bed.
Daikon smiled, his heart filled with love. Slowly he lifted both his hands and started petter Espeon and Dratini's head.
"Good to see you guys." he said.
Espeon's eyes fluttered open, she looked around and saw Daikon awake. Overcome with joy, she jumped into Daikon's chest and rubbed her face on his cheek.
Dratini woke up and gave a angry snort at Espeon who was on top of him but seeing Daikon he let a happy cry out and joined her. Quilava soon woke up and joined them.
"Glad to see you have finally woke up." a deep voice sounded from the corner that Daikon didn't recognize.
His pokemon all laid back down on the bed and Daikon saw a man with greying dark hair with a muscular body sitting in a chair looking at him. Daikon saw his red eyes and his face darken.
"I take it you're from my fathers clan." he said coldly.
"I'm your grandfather." he said calmly, giving a slight smile.
"Why are you here?" Daikon asked.
"To see you of course." he simply said.
"Cut through the bullshit. Are you here to kill me? Or maybe bring me back to the clan?" Daikon coldly asked.
"I'm your grandpa so of course i'm not going to kill you." he said rolling his eyes.
"Then what do you want?" Daikon asked, genuinely curious now.
"I told you, to meet you. You dad told me about your existence nine days ago and I came straight to Kanto." he said with a smile. Daikon thought he could see genuine care in his eyes.
Daikon didn't know what to say and sat there quietly, petting Espeon.
"Don't you want to know about your father?" Gerald asked curiously.
"No." Daikon said simply. He paused and then continued saying, "So you came all this way to meet me only to find me in the hospital beaten to a pulp. If I was you I'd be disappointed in me as a grandson." Daikon said with a bitter smile.
"Why would I be disappointed?" Gerald asked him, not showing anything on his face.
"Losing the battle?" Daikon said, surprised at the question.
"Is that why you are disappointed?" he asked with a smile.
Thinking about it deeply, Daikon shook his head. "No… I'm not mad about losing. I'm mad about not killing him or not strong enough to kill him and protect that girl from harm." a cold glint flashed across his eyes as he clenched his fist.
"Not bad not bad. But you are wrong. I am not disappointed with your strength at all. It's your decisions that I have a problem with."
"My decisions?" Daikon asked, not having a clue what he was talking about.
"Yes. You didn't owe that family anything but you still put your life at risk for them. That's just stupidity." Gerald's voice acquired an edge to it.
"They were implicated because of me. I had to help." Daikon said stubbornly.
"Wrong! They were implicated because they talked to you. Nothing to do with you! If you were responsible for every person you talked to you will die very quickly."
"It doesn't matter! I was weak! That's my sin! Not theirs!" Daikon defended ferociously.
"Being weak is a sin to you? That's pretty arrogant!"
"No, being weak isn't a sin… but staying weak is." Daikon said quietly.
Gerald didn't say anything and continued to stare at Daikon.
'This grandson of mine is truly amazing.' he thought but didn't say it and maintained a stern face.
Silence enveloped the room as the two of them stared at each other.
Gerald slowly got up and said, "Once you're discharged you will be training with me. You're right, being weak isn't a sin, staying is." He walked out the door.
Daikon looked down at his hands before clenching them. He wanted to get stronger. Espeon licked his clenched fist, causing Daikon to laugh.
"Thank you." he whispered.
'You're welcome!' a woman's voice echoed in his head.
"Espeon… is that you!?" Daikon said stunned.
'Yes master! I learned Telepathy so we can talk now!' she said cheerfully.
"Hahaha great! You have gotten stronger!" he laughed as he rubbed her ear.
Daikon's door opened and someone yelled, "Big brother!"
Looking over Daikon saw the little girl in a wheelchair with her mother pushing it as they entered the room.
"More bandages!"
After a stressful couple of hours, Quilava was starting to recover thanks to the doctors hard work.
