4 Starting the Journey
After a short walk Daikon arrived home and found his mother was doing his laundry.
"How many pairs of underwear do you think a pokemon trainer needs?" Kate asked as she folded his underwear.
Daikon shook his head and smiled. His mom was trying to keep busy to distract herself from him leaving.
"I got a new pokemon." Daikon told Kate.
"Really? Well let me see it already!" cried Kate, excited at meeting her son's pokemon.
Daikon smiled at his mother's excitement and unclipped Cyndaquil's pokeball from his belt and released him.
The small and cute Cyndaquil appeared and looked around curiously before hiding behind Daikon's leg.
"It's so cute! What an adorable pokemon!" Kate gushed over Cyndaquil and tried to pick him up. Cyndaquil avoided her hands and put Daikon in between them.
"Cynda!" Cyndaquil cried in fear.
"Sorry mom. He is a bit afraid of humans at the moment." Ben said, he then explained what had happened at the pokemon center.
Kate's face turned red with anger as she heard what that fat kid did to Cyndaquil. An overwhelming pressure came from his mother. Daikon looked at his mother in shock, this kind of pressure was only released from powerful trainers.
Daikon had met two powerful trainers in Professor Oak's lab. The Professor's grandson and a trainer called Red. Their pressure was much greater than his mother's but it was similar.
'What is my mother hiding?' Daikon thought as he bent down and picked up Cyndaquil, consoling him.
Kate seemed to realize her mistake and the pressure quickly disappeared. She went to the kitchen and came back with a small piece of food. She gave it to Cyndaquil and said, "I'm sorry Cyndaquil for scaring you."
Cyndaquil sniffed the food before he grabbed it and started eating.
Kate smiled at him and gave a gentle pat on his head. She then looked at Daikon and said, "I'm proud of you for defending Cyndaquil like that. Next time though, make sure the person learns his lesson thoroughly."
Daikon's jaw dropped, his mother, the kindest person he knew was telling him to physically hurt someone.
Kate gave a bright smile as she gentle brushed Cyndaquil's head. Cyndaquil was nervous at first but quickly warmed up to Kate. Cyndaquil licked Kate's hand which caused her to laugh.
"Well these are your clothes… there's dry food and water I also have out on the table for you as well as an first aid kit, for you and your pokemon." Kate said emotionally.
Daikon hugged her and thanked her for everything. "I love you mom. I'll call you as many times as I can and come back to see when I can."
"Enjoy yourself, be safe and treat your pokemon right. They are your friends forever." Kate gave him a final squeeze before letting him go.
Daikon placed Cyndaquil back into his pokeball and backed his clothes and food into his backpack. He gave his mom one last hug before leaving.
When he was standing in the doorway he turned back to his mother and said, "I know you miss him. I know you don't blame him for leaving us. I also know he left because it would have put us in danger if he had stayed." Daikon's clear blue eyes were full of determination as he looked at his mother. "So I will get strong. So strong that his clan will be nothing in my eyes and that he will be able to come back to you. I promise you mom that I will achieve this."
Daikon turned and left, leaving Kate with tears running down her face. Funny thing was she had a wide smile on her face. "I know you will… you are a Dragonborn." she whispered to herself.
Daikon stopped at the Professor's lab before leaving. The town of Pallet use to be a small but over the last couple of years in had a boom in infrastructure. Thankfully the lab and Daikon's house were near each other.
He entered the lab without any resistance, the aides and researchers all knew him and let him pass.
The Professor was giving a starter pokemon to a young 10 year old child at the moment. The child had a choice from the three Kanto starters, Charmander, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle. The young boy choose Charmander and ran to his dad in excited to show his new pokemon. Daikon smiled at the kids enthusiasm.
"Daikon my boy! You here to say goodbye?" Professor Oak's voice boomed out as he walked over to Daikon.
Daikon nodded, unexpectedly he took a step forward and hugged Professor Oak. "Thank you for everything Professor." Daikon's voice was tight, trying to restrain his emotions.
Professor Oak was shocked but quickly recovered and patted Daikon's back. "Alright my boy. You have a promising future so make sure you survive to live it." Professor Oak said.
Daikon nodded his head and headed out of the lab, ready to finally start his journey.
The Professor watched as Daikon left the lab, lost in his thoughts. He then took a cell phone from out of his pocket and dialed a number.
"Agatha, it's me. I need a favour." Professor Oak said.
---
Daikon headed north, entering Route 1, the beginning of his journey. He was wearing a black t shirt with blue jeans, his black hair was short and styled bringing out his clear blue even more. The strangest thing about Daikon's appearance was the black sword placed on his hip.
Route 1 was a dirt road with a few trees dotted along the road, other than that it was pretty open space. Walking along, Daikon releases all three of his pokemon to keep him company. Eevee and Dratini were curious about Cyndaquil, for they hadn't met him yet.
Daikon introduced them, "You guys this is Cyndaquil. He will be joining our adventure. Cyndaquil meet Eevee and Dratini."
"Eeevee."
"Draaatini."
Both of them greeted him warmly but Cyndaquil took aversion to Eevee, remembering the beating she gave him. Eevee looked confused and tried being friendly only for Cyndaquil to hide behind Daikon again.
Laughing Daikon assured Cyndaquil that Eevee was harmless. Cyndaquil seemed to trust him and slowly opened up to Eevee. Dratini coiled around Daikon's arm and fell asleep.
Daikon felt a small amount of energy drickle into him from Dratin. He could also feel Dratini's emotions through their Blood Bond.
Happiness.
Dratini was feeling happiness.
Daikon smiled at the sleeping Dratini and softly stroked his head. Dratini seemed to react as coiled tighter around Daikon's arm.
Cyndaquil and Eevee seemed to be on good terms as they chased each other around, darting in between Daikon's legs.
A Spearow landed and was pecking at something on the ground when it saw Eevee and Cyndaquil walking down the road. It let out a loud cry and flew into the air and dove at Cyndaquil, knocking him over.
Eevee let out an angry cry at the Spearow.
"Eevee come back. This is Cyndaquil's fight." Daikon said to Eevee.
Eevee gave the Spearow an angry glare before returning to Daikon's side.
Cyndaquil stood up and looked at the Spearow in fear, he then tried to hide behind Daikon's leg but Daikon wouldn't let him.
"This is your battle Cyndaquil." Daikon strictly told him. Cyndaquil gave a small nod and faced the Spearow. Daikon knew that Cyndaquil had very little confidence and battling might help him.
The Spearow looked down on Cyndaquil and let out a scornful cry before flying high and diving at Cyndaquil.
"Cyndaquil, Smokescreen!"
Black smoke erupted from Cyndaquil's mouth, obstructing Spearow's view. Spearow then used gust to clear away the smoke. Daikon had to act quickly.
"Ember now!"
Cyndaquil's back burst into flames as small flames shot out of his mouth and hit Spearow in the chest. Spearow let out a cry and fell to the ground.
"Quick attack Cyndaquil! Don't let it fly again!" Daikon yelled.
Cyndaquil turned into a blur and slammed into Spearow before he could fly into the air again. Spearow was knocked back a couple meters before it landed, not moving.
Daikon took out his pokedex.
[Spearow the tiny bird pokemon. Spearow has a very loud cry that can be heard over half a mile away. If its high, keening cry is heard echoing all around, it is a sign that they are warning each other of danger.]
"Good job Cyndaquil!" Daikon praised him for his good performance.
Eevee walked up to Cyndaquil and praised him as well, causing him to let out a cheerful cry.
The Spearow quickly came around and flew off. Pokemon's bodies are incredibly tough, able to take lots of damage and heal quickly. Daikon had no desire to catch the Spearow.
The rest of the day continued in that fashion, Eevee and Cyndaquil took turns battling different wild pokemon.
Rattatas, Pidgeys, and even a Sentret.
Daikon didn't catch any of them, he wanted to strengthen his three pokemon first before trying to catch a new pokemon. Dratini remained sleeping on Daikon's arm, not waking up during the battles. Daikon figured that he was a baby and needed his sleep. Daikon stroked the beautiful black scales as Dratini slept, mesmerized with its beauty.
Eevee and Cyndaquil had some definite improvements thanks to their battles. Cyndaquil was now confident in himself now and had little hesitation when battling. Eevee was superb, her instincts and timing left Daikon astonished. He barely had to help her when battling, hardly giving her any commands.
Eevee also learn a new move called Double Kick, which was a simple attack that allows Eevee to kick an opponent twice in rapid succession.
The beauty about this move was that it was a fighting type move, which allowed Eevee to be super effective on normal pokemon like her.
Daikon battle multiple times with his Cyndaquil and Eevee today, so when the sun started setting he made camp. Cyndaquil helped start the fire while Daikon unpacked a sleeping bag and blankets. He then took out some food and fed Eevee and Cyndaquil. At the smell of food, Dratini seemed to wake up from his deep sleep and look for something to eat.
Daikon laughed at this little glutton and gave him some food. Dratini sniffed it before rejecting it. Daikon was confused, wasn't this guy hungry. Dratini seemed to be upset at the food Daikon gave him and took off into the dark.
"Hey! Where are you going!?" Daikon yelled at Dratini's back, chasing after him.
Daikon lost sight of Dratini but used his Blood Bond with Dratini to find his location.
Daikon quickly found Dratini but the scene shocked him.
Dratini's mouth was covered in blood as it feasted on a dead Rattata. Even after Daikon arrived he continued to eat until there was nothing left but bones.
After finishing his meal, Dratini let out a satisfied burp and started to shake. A thin layer of skin started to come off as Dratini shook until he emerged completely from the old skin.
Dratini was bigger, both in length and in girth. Almost a meter long now, Dratini looked stronger and quicker. His new scales gleaned with brilliance as Daikon looked at him. Letting out a happy cry, Dratini crawled up Daikon's body and wrapped around his arm again, only this time he was significantly heavier then before.
Pokemon eating pokemon was completely natural, it happened every day but trainers don't usually make their pokemon eat other pokemon because the food at the store was much more nutritious and better for their pokemon. Only blood thirsty trainers would force their pokemon to kill and eat other pokemon.
"How many pairs of underwear do you think a pokemon trainer needs?" Kate asked as she folded his underwear.
Daikon shook his head and smiled. His mom was trying to keep busy to distract herself from him leaving.
