320 THE LOST KING

THIS IS THE SECOND CHAPTER OF VOLUME 5: THE QUEEN OF TERRA. I'M SORRY FOR THE MIXED UP VOLUMES. I CAN'T EDIT THEM IN INKSTONE. :(

"How about the King? Can we check on him first?" Zoe gave Princess Taia an awkward smile, hoping she wouldn't notice the apprehension in her voice.

As much as she wanted to go straight to Raigon to comfort him, Zoe's guilt feelings got the best of her. She doesn't think she can face him knowing that she is the cause of his unfortunate situation.

'If only I didn't insist on entering this land… If only I listened to him…'

Zoe's bright eyes turned dim as she thought about how Raigon tried to conceal his identity when they met again. And even tried to hide the truth about the past.

Her thoughts were about to trail off when Princess Taia revealed another information that shocked Zoe.

"If you're talking about Father, I'm afraid he's not in a good state to welcome visitors. After you left and he was back to the care of the royal physicians, they were giving him the traditional medical herbs. But it seemed like they were so potent for him that he lost most of his memories. He couldn't even remember his own family."

Zoe grabbed the wall for support as her knees wavered with this information. How could this happen to him?

"Tell me where he is!" She gritted her jaw as she recalled Raigon's situation before where he also lost his memories, but not all since older people tend to experience greater adverse effects than the younger ones.

Zoe rushed to where the Princess was taking her and to her surprise, they stopped at the royal kitchen.

"We must put on a disguise so they will not know us." Princess Taia instructed her as she went to the servant's dresser room and changed into a different wardrobe.

Zoe's lips curled up at the sudden maturity of Princess Taia whom she thought was a naive and innocent young princess. But perhaps, because of pressure, she changed into a brave and ingenious warrior who wanted to protect her family.

She followed Princess Taia's steps. But before they left the kitchen, she went into the herbs area and looked for some possible antidotes for the King.

"If it was still the potion that Physician Sheng Tun used for the Crowned Prince before, this will remove its effect on the King. Just boil these and give them once a day. I'll see what I can do to treat him."

Zoe gave some of the herbs to Princess Taia before they moved on to the King's location.

She didn't know if it was a good thing or not, but they kept Princess Ara and King Artair in the King's Chamber and not in the dungeons. And they didn't even hurt them.

'Have they already found out about the Tree? Why are they still here?'

"Princess Taia! I told you to stay hidden!"

Princess Ara reacted as soon as she saw her youngest sister inside their father's room now turned into their prison cell.

"Ssh! The Crowned Princess is here to save our father."

Princess Ara's eyes bulged out in disbelief as she turned around to see Zoe. "I thought you're in the dungeons. Did you just curse this land because of what we did to you?"

Zoe drew in a deep breath as she replied. "I wouldn't be here if it's the truth, would I?"

She ignored her and went straight to the King. "Your Majesty."

He still looked like the kind father that he was to her before she left. But it seemed like he was lost in his own world as he looked like he was just staring out the window all day, with his uncombed hair and unshaved face.

"Asha is that you?" He quickly ran to her and embraced her.

Princess Ara and Princess Taia stared at one another in surprise as they thought that he cannot recognize anyone.

They both gaze at their father as he knelt down at her feet and cried. "Forgive me for everything I have caused you. I should have fought for our love."

Zoe's mouth couldn't help but gasped as uncontrollable tears fell down her cheeks. This was the second time that he has mistaken her for her mother. But the first time astounded her as she still has no idea about what happened to her mother.

But now, flashes of the Tree's favor to her, flashed back on her memories as she recalled how her mother suffered until death.

Now she felt the soothing effect of a family member asking for forgiveness for what happened then.

She knelt down and lifted him to his feet. "I believe my mother has forgiven you a long time ago. Please be well, your Majesty. I will do my best to help you."

King Artair nodded his head, still believing that Zoe was his beloved. Princess Ara wanted to stop him and tell him that he is mistaken. But Zoe lifted her hand telling her that it's okay. He allowed her to check on him with a smile on his face.

"He is delirious right now. But that's the only thing I see in him. His heart is recuperating well. He only needs to drink the boiled herbs that I gave to Princess Taia and he would be well."

Princess Taia gave the herbs to Princess Ara, wherein Princess Ara accepted it and put it under her pillow.

"If you can, do not let the King sip from the medicine that Physician Sheng Tun is giving him."

Princess Ara nodded and thanked her. "I don't want to say this. But perhaps you should also see my only brother. He seems lost right now. And I think your presence would mean a lot to him. I still don't approve of it. But I want my brother to get back on his feet and save this land."

Forgiveness is the best form of love. It takes a strong person to say sorry. And an even stronger person to forgive.
