275 A HEROINE'S NAME
"Does this look pretty on me?"
Zoe asked Raigon as she tried to put a golden hairpin on her raven-colored tresses. It was striking in its shimmery golden hue. And it has a carefully laid out design of a tree's branches with red orange fruits.
Raigon's eyebrows furrowed as he stared at the hairpin which looked like the necklace that Zoe and the Queen had been fighting over.
He was about to comment about it. But as his handsome dark blue eyes darted towards Zoe's appealing features, his focus turned to her herself.
"Yes, absolutely beautiful." He thought out loud.
Her vibrant presence sparkled all the more as she grinned, revealing her sparkling set of white teeth.
"I know! It looks just like Mama's necklace, right? I wish I could wear it to the party with this one."
Her cheeks lifted as she gazed at the hairpin in her hand admiringly.
They were still at the Capital as Lord Hou, Azra and Erin were still buying things to take home to Hengcheng Mountains. While waiting for them, Zoe and Raigon also decided to stroll and shop around.
Raigon was currently in a disguised ordinary Hanfu robe. And since not many have seen his face in the land, they were able to take a walk without becoming suspicious to anyone.
"I would pay for this one." Raigon brought out his bag and gave to the owner of the store.
Zoe's eyes widened in glee as his kind gesture.
"Consider it my gift for you for your upcoming recognition day."
Zoe couldn't help but clasped the hairpin with both her hands as her shoulders lifted. She has been to a lot of recognition days during college. And she always receives awards for her hard work which she is proud of as they were all displayed in beautiful frames on her apartment wall.
With those, she felt like she was not the lonely penniless orphan girl that the other people thought about her.
'But this feels so different and more fulfilling.'
Zoe thought to herself. She didn't know if it was because it is the King of this perfect and glorious land who will bestow it on her. Or if because this time she was with someone whom she can share it with and is thrilled with it as much as she does.
They were in this grateful atmosphere when Zoe heard something that seemed to call on her attention.
A little girl was crying as she was being carried by her mother. Zoe came to her side, followed by Raigon, and politely asked if she could take a look on her.
"Certainly, milady."
The mother answered her as she saw her in a physician's robe. Zoe bowed to her and smiled sweetly at the little girl.
"Hello there, sweetie. You have beautiful eyes. But I can't see them properly. Can you let me see them?"
The little girl nodded as Zoe checked the color of her inner lids with one hand and her skin with the other hand as she held her arm. She was also looking drowsy.
And with her outburst, her face must be wet with tears. But they're not.
"She just seemed to be a little dehydrated, Madame." She concluded as she shifted her focus to the mother.
The mother cupped her mouth in astonishment as she responded. "I knew it. That is why I always scolded her for not drinking enough water."
"But I don't like water, Mama." The little girl was able to butt in as her lips pouted in defiance.
Zoe's eyes flitted around to look for something she could help them with. Her eyes sparkled as she saw a fruit store.
"How about watermelon? Do you want one?" Zoe asked the little girl, whose fists lifted in the air as she squealed.
"I want watermelon, Mama."
At the speed of light, Raigon immediately went there and bought one. He asked the owner if he could slice it so that the little girl can eat it at once.
In less than five minutes, the little girl was already eating the watermelon.
"It's not just water that can alleviate symptoms of dehydration. We can also add water-rich foods like soup, fruit, and vegetables and drinks like juice, especially for our little kids who like varieties."
She explained to the mother and patted the little girl's head.
"Wow, you're like Lady Asha." The little girl's eyes went almost as large as the watermelon as she took a bite on a piece in her hands.
Raigon and Zoe glanced at each other in surprise. Raigon was about to speak up and tell her that she was Lady Asha. But Zoe put her forefinger in front of her lips.
"What do you know about Lady Asha, little miss?" Zoe knelt down so she could look at the little girl at the eye level. Her face was still smiling in fondness of the little girl.
"She is the greatest physician ever! She treated the King and the whole Terra from the plague. When I grow up I want to be like Lady Asha!"
The little girl blurted out all of a sudden after a big bite from her watermelon to the adult's surprise.
Zoe couldn't help but chuckle at the little kid's open admiration for her even though she has no idea that who she is talking about is right in front of her eyes.
Raigon's hand flew to Zoe's shoulder and gently pressed it as he felt elated that the ordinary citizens and even little children knew about her and her good heart.
Hearing her mother's name from the little girl's mouth, made Zoe look up to the sky.
'Your name will now be remembered, not as a halfling but as a heroine.'
"Thank you, lady physician. I will certainly follow your advice." The little girl's mother bowed down to her in gratitude.
