Chapter 575 - Threw away a pearl and picked a stone

After exchanging a few more words, Mu Zhichen took back his phone. "You didn't only call to ask me about the engagement party, right?" 

"Right. When are you free to talk? There's something I need your help with." Obviously, she wasn't going to do an endorsement with another man. It would only have the effect Lu Aotian wanted if it was the man she would marry. 

"Just tell me when you want to talk. I'll be available." The man spoke. 

He couldn't be any sweeter. "Alright. Can it be tomorrow? The sooner you get ready for it the better." 

"Sure. Coincidentally, I'll accompany mother to bring the gifts."

"Okay. If there's nothing else, I'll hang up now." 

"Mmh. Goodnight." In the next second, Lu Meili heard a soft smack sound from the other end. 

Her ears turned scarlet. Did that man just blow her a kiss? 

No one told her young master Mu was so playful...

The next day, Lu Meili sent the invitation cards. She didn't have many friends so she only sent them to Lu Shaoting's family, the Blanc family and Lu Aotian's friends. If he and Wan Jia wanted to invite other people, they would send the invitations themselves. 

There were three people remaining from her side - Small Xixi, her childhood friend Shen Yue and Xu Tang. 

Shen Yue was overseas studying so she probably wouldn't attend it. As for Xu Tang and Small Xixi... 

This was the hardest part. They were her friends and had to be invited for such an event. However, Xu Tang was also the man who just didn't want to give up on her. Would they attend? 

After thinking for a while, she decided that there was only one way to find out. 

There was still a few hours before the Mus came, so she rushed to Small Xixi's school.

"Sis Meili, it's really you! I thought I would never see you again." Small Xixi flung herself into Lu Meili's arms as soon as she saw her. 

"Xixi, I missed you. Why would you think that you will never see me again?" 

"Isn't it because of that good-for-nothing brother I have? He threw away a pearl and picked a stone." 

Small Xixi's angry face was too comical. She looked like she would slay her own brother for this. "I'm glad Sis Meili understands him the most. Are the two of you back together? I'll ignore him for weeks for not telling me something this important."

Lu Meili started feeling awkward. "Actually Xixi, Xu Tang and I... will never be together." 

The girl's excitement faded in a flash. "What? But why not?" 

Lu Meili took out an invitation card clumsily. "I'm getting married soon. I came here to give you an invitation card for my engagement party." 

Small Xixi's eyes bulged. "What? But what about my brother, then?" 

"I have nothing to say about him." She said. "I was conflicted about sending you this invitation because you are his sister. But, you are my best friend too. How can I not invite you to such an important part of my life? If you cannot attend it, I will understand." 

The girl looked even sadder. "I'm going! Don't forget the pact we made about me being the maid of honor at your wedding." 

"Yeah..." 

"But I wanted you to be my sister-in-law. Boohoo... Sis Meili, can't you change your mind?" 

Lu Meili rubbed this spoiled girl's head. "Xixi, be good. Things don't always go the way we thought they would. Besides, Mu Zhichen is a nice guy. Shouldn't you be happy for me?" 

"I'm only taking this invitation card because you gave it to me. However, I still believe you love my brother. You are only momentarily enchanted by that Mu guy." 

Lu Meili was helpless. This little girl was so pampered that she thought everything must go her way.

In the afternoon, Old matriach Mu, her son and grandson made their way to Lu Aotian's villa, led by servants carrying loads of gifts. Mrs. Mu was unable to make it since something came up in the last minute.

As soon as they arrived, Matriach Mu's eyes caught sight of a young woman approaching them. She delightedly approached the woman. "Meili, you are here. You waited for us as promised. Come here, grandma has a gift for you." 

Wan Jia coughed. "Ahem.... it has truly been so long since we last met." 

Matruach Mu was shocked. "You are... Wan Jia?!" 

"Meili went out for a second. Why don't we catch up a bit?" 

Matriach Mu was still dazed. She scrutinized Wan Jia from head to toe. "Wait, you've got to stop kidding. What's the difference between you right now and what you looked like twenty years ago? Are you sure you're really not Meili?" 

Mu Zhichen at the side was speechless. Although she still looks very young and beautiful, you cannot simply mistake her for her own daughter, okay? 

Matruach Mu rarely met her son's friends. She had only met Wan Jia once at a banquet and that was probably a very long time ago. Matriach Mu turned. Indeed, that was more like the girl from the photo. 

When her gaze landed on that beautiful girl, she finally saw the difference. "Indeed, Meili looks much younger. You have to tell me how you took such good care of yourself." 

Leaving Wan Jia aside, Matriach. Mu rushed to Lu Meili like she would disappear. "My good granddaughter, grandma is finally here. Did I make you wait too long?" 

Lu Meili was still catching her breath from rushing over too fast. "No, no. On the contrary, I made you wait for me." 

"How can you say that? Come here. Grandma has a gift for you."
