57 Chapter 54 - Demon King

* WARNING *

THIS IS NOT CANON

*****

In a blink, Wolbach teleported me inside a weird castle.

"Welcome to the Demon King's castle! I'll bring you the king in just a minute so look around!" said Wolbach in a sisterly tone.

The castle wasn't a dark moody tone that I expected. In fact, it looked like a fortress from the outside, but the inside was heavily decorated to the extent I felt we were inside the human's territory.

"He must be rich..." I spoke out my thoughts.

"Our Demon King is indeed rich. His trading network is worth billions and he's quite the hardworking fellow," she said.

"Hardworking? Shouldn't he be waging war?" I asked.

Wolbach sighed, "It's not our fault that we demons became war waging monsters. The Crimson Magic Clan and the Axis Cult keeps on tarnishing our name with baseless rumors. Our king is actually a nice person, not the ruthless and evil being you humans speak of."

"That must be hard... but why the Axis Cult?" I wondered.

"We're not too entirely sure why, but we believe it's because their goddess sent a revelation."

I could imagine on the top of my head Aqua asking her followers to wipe out the demons casually without care.

"Yeah... I trust you on that..."

Wolbach brought me up to a room. Opening the door was a man sitting down reviewing documents. It was quite weird seeing a human working for the demon king.

"Hey, weren't you supposed to be bring me to the demon king?" I asked Wolbach.

"You idiot-! That's the demon king!" corrected Wolbach.

I was suspecting if my eyes were wrong. How can a middle aged man who was viewing documents be the demon king. Noticing my stare, the man stopped his work and took a look at me.

"Hello~! I'm a the famous Demon King!" he stated happily.

I was in doubt, "Aren't you just Japanese?"

His eyes opened up with shimmers inside.

"A fellow Japanese! It's been so long since I've seen one! How's Japan?"

"Uh... It's fine I guess?"

"Here! Take a seat!" he gave me a seat.

Wolbach left to tend to her duties while I started conversing with the demon king. Completely unlike the rumors, he felt like a nice uncle who gave allowance way too much.

"Man... that's nostalgic... so why are you here again?" he said kindly.

"To earn money by becoming a demon general," I answered politely.

"You didn't hold back anything! Sure! I'll let you in!" he smacked by back hard.

It didn't feel strong at all. I thought the demon king was more powerful than this.

"Just wondering... What's your ability?" I asked.

"Oh, mine? I'm just a wizard with powerful enhancing skills! Do you want something upgraded little girl?" he smiled.

From my body, emitted an evil aura that thirsted for blood.

"Did you just call me a girl?" I smiled politely.

"... Goodbye!" He teleported away.

*****

I stayed inside the castle for some weeks. The Demon King's promise was fulfilled and I earned 10 billion Eris. In return, I was interconnected with their powerful barrier, making me their ninth demon general.

According to the Demon King, the barrier was supported with the wisdom of Wiz and the King's ability, Enhancement. All we had to was put in mana and be connect, making the subordinates under the king acknowledge us as partners.

Today, I met Duke, the fallen angel who hated demons and Celestina, the other human who worshiped a weird god. Wolbach had to go back and defend against the humans and I learned more about this world from the demon generals.

"So this war is basically self-defense?" I asked.

"Yes. Human's are greedy and corrupt, always asking for more. And humans, especially the Axis Cult members who are stupid, try everything to hurt the demons," Celestina answered

"Then why won't the royalty just stop? I'm pretty sure one of them might have the right brain."

"The problem is, the war went on for too long. It's either we lose or we win at this point. There's no room for reconcile."

Celestina, luckily, knew some historic facts I should be filled in with. I was taught that humans started all this war and that all these problems came from the various Summoned Heroes.

'Isn't it all Aqua's fault!' I screamed inside my head.

Sadly, Celestina and Duke both didn't know much about the primordial era. All they knew was that one powerful being made the land in which everything started growing. Then later, powerful tribes ascended into divinities and killed the ancient one. The reasoning for the war was placement in the world, and the Gods won and the demons lost.

I was surprised Duke didn't know much, but apparently he was a lowly commander who got kicked from heaven. Duke started crying when remembering his past so Celestina and I both comforted him.

"Touma! Aren't you lucky? You got your first mission!" teleported Wolbach out of nowhere.

Teleportation magic was quite convenient so I learned it from her. She handed me down a paper and teleported back out saying she was busy.

"What's this?" I looked.

Duke and Celestina were both curious so they peeked at my mission.

[Help out Ragcraft in his mission to overtake Elroad!]

Ragcraft was a doppelganger who was sent as a spy. He's also the leader of the intelligence unit, but because of his efforts he became Elroad's prime minister.

"This is surprising..." I said.

In my mission, it was stated to remind Ragcraft of his duties, to cut Elroad off ties with Belzerg and make an alliance with the demon king. It also asked to show off our new demon general's powers, me.

"He's quite the trickster... that uncle..." I smiled.

Elroad was a place I thrived in. A country that was dependent on casinos... a perfect match for my ability. And cutting of their ties with Belzerg will be disastrous, since they provided so much money.

Packing up on some food, I headed out of the castle on foot.

"Let's make things straight, Gods," I licked my lips with desire.

My plan? There was none. The only thing I had in mind was to change the outcome of the future.
