19 Chapter 19
I knew we were heading to a battlefield in the north. But it would have been nice to tell me it would be a week by carriage... We came to a stop followed by a knock on the door.
"Excuse me... Are you awake?" A voice came from outside.
I opened the door.
I was a little surprised at first. It was a girl but that's not what I found strange. It was the fact she had pointed ears and green hair. How can hair be green? She was also wearing armor but unlike the usual badge with a lion on it, this had a tree.
"You need something?" I replied as our eyes met.
"Uhh no, it's... I came to tell you we have arrived.
"Oh ok. Let me just grab my something."
I grabbed the sword the king had given me and looked at the armor he told me I should wear. It looked well built and new but I don't like the idea of armor. It would only slow me down. After all, I want this to be quick. I decided to leave it and only take the sword and a bag with food in it.
"Ok, I have everything. Where do I go now?"
"Do you see that tent?" She pointed over to a tent surrounded by about 6 others. But it was just a bit bigger. And also surrounded by guards.
"Yes?"
"First you will need to go there and General Algard will tell you what to do."
"Ok thanks."
I took a step out of the carriage. I was hit by a cold breeze as I noticed my breath was visible in front of me. The ground crunched beneath my feet. There was snow. How didn't I notice before? I dismissed the thought and walked towards the tent.
"Hey wait!" The girl shouted as I approached the tent.
"Yes?"
"You forgot your armor."
"Oh, I don't need it," I shouted back as I opened the tent flap.
There was an old guy sat at the desk in front of me. He looked to be in his sixty's but he was built like a brick wall.
"And what don't you need?" He asked with a chuckle.
"Oh, you heard that?"
"I would be surprised if the whole camp didn't hear it."
Right tents don't keep out sound...
"Anyway who might you be?" He asked.
"I'm Yuki... I was sent to fight some demon general or something?"
"Your just a kid! Do you expect me to believe the king would send you?" He became enraged.
"It's true..." A voice came from behind me.
General Wilhelm entered the tent.
"Surely your joking Wilhelm... He's just a kid he's barely old enough to enlist."
"I'm afraid not... He's much stronger than he looks... I learned that first hand."
"You're serious?"
"Unfortunately"
"Do you think we have a chance even with him?"
"Honestly no..."
Just as I thought I was being complimented they decide to say I am useless...
"Where is everyone else?"
"Wilhelm... You didn't tell him?"
"Not yet... I was going to let you do it."
The mood changed immediately I could sense the anger and fear from both the generals.
"You see on your way here. Our camp was raided and well... They killed about three hundred of us... we had no choice but to retreat to here. At this rate, they will kill us all and invade the capital."
This is getting bothersome... I didn't want to get involved in the war because I am not a fan of killing for no reason. But if they get to the capital they could hurt Scarlet... I won't let that happen...
"Ok, how many?"
"What do you mean?"
"How many people are in the enemy force?"
"People??? I think you are misunderstanding something. They are demons, not people!"
"Ugh, Fine how many demons? I just want to get this over with so I can go home already..."
"About a hundred but what are you planning?"
"Don't worry about it." I grabbed my sword and walked out of the tent.
Wait I don't even know where to go!? There goes my moment to be a badass.
I walked back into the tent. "Which way is the camp?"
"It is to the west of our tent. Are you planning on going alone!?"
"Well yeah, I don't see the need for anyone else to die."
"But I can't let you go alone!"
"Fine do you have anyone who can use magic?"
"Magic?... Hmm... I think there is someone actually." General Algard walked out of the tent and gestured me to follow.
We walked into another tent with a bunch of injured soldiers lying on beds. Must be the hospital tent?
"Aelinor are you here?"
A head popped out from the other side of the tent. It was the girl from before.
"Yes? Do you need something General?"
"Actually yes I do."
"What is it, sir?"
"I want you to take Yuki here to the camp."
"Yes, sir!" She came out of the tent and guided me to the camp.
It was about a mile walk into what was previously a field with flowers and grass and was now covered in snow and void of any life.
She put her arm out in front of me to stop me from walking and told me to duck. We were now hiding behind a rock and up ahead there was a tent surrounded by demons. There were mangled bodies on the floor with their organs ripped out and thrown around leaving a mess on top of the snow.
"Why are we hiding?"
"Because there are demons there!? Are you stupid?"
"The whole point of coming here was to kill them. Why would we hide?"
"You expect me to believe you can kill a demon? Your funny for a human. Hahaha... Wait you're serious about this aren't you?"
"What do you mean by human? Are you not a human?"
"I thought that was obvious by my ears and my hair... Not to mention the flag of Graecia on my armor."
"So if your not human what are you?"
"I'm an elf... Is it really that hard to notice?"
"Well, I have never seen an elf before... Wait I have but she was blonde and her ears were not pointed."
"A blonde elf? That's the first I have heard of one. But if her ears weren't pointed then she is not an elf..."
"Hey, I have one more question."
"Sure..."
"Do you drink blood?"
"What!? of course not!" She shouted gaining the attention of the hoard of demons.
They began to surround us. And we were trapped in the middle of them. I think I should at least get her out of the way before I kill them right? I picked up Aelinor and jumped over the demons and put her down on the top of a rock.
"How did you jump so high!?"
"Huh? I'm not sure... That's normal right?"
I took the sword off my back and took it out of the wrap. I drew it and left the scabbard with her as I took off running towards the demons. The sun beamed off the silver edge of the blade but was absorbed by the blackness of the blade itself. I angled the blade towards the first demon running it through him and the one behind. They didn't give much resistance as the blade pierced right through them... Are they really that weak? In that case, how did they kill anyone at all?
I began slashing and hacking at whichever enemy faced me. The sword cut them down like a hot knife through butter. This continued for about an hour before it stopped. There was only silence and bodies scattering the battlefield that remained.
I turned to face Aelinor she stood up in shock and started to cheer... It was cut short as her neck contorted and her body fell lifeless to the ground. Behind her, there was a hooded figure. Almost the height of a child.
"My dear brother I see you have woken up..." A girls voice called out
Brother? what is she talking about?
She took off her hood the reveal two pitch black horns protruding from her head and blonde hair. She ran towards me and stood a foot from my face before I realized she had stabbed me. Blood erupted from my mouth and dripped down to the floor. I fell to the floor as my body went into shock. I was bleeding out. And at this rate, I would die in minutes...
"Oh don't tell me this is all you have? Are you just going to die again?" She crouched down beside me and started poking me in the chest where I had just been stabbed.
That's when it hit me. I remembered everything. How I had woken up in a world surrounded by magic. How I went to a school for magic and how I had everything taken from me.
"I remember..." I struggled to my feet as the blood was still pouring from my chest.
"Oh, you do? That's good. Then you will feel that pain all over again!" She began to laugh as she kicked me in the side sending me flying through the air and smashing into the ground. My ribs were shattered and more blood poured from me. It became hard to breathe as the bone had splintered in words puncturing my lungs. My body became heavy as I fell into darkness...
"Yukiiiiiii..." A gentle voice called out to me. I couldn't respond.
"Yuuuuukiiiiiii..." It called out again. It echoed like I was hanging on to every letter with what was remaining of my life.
"YUKI!" The voice contorted into one familiar and sharp as it inhaled in pain and laughing hysterically.
My eyes shot open out of fear. The room was dark and lit with a single lamp. I looked around. The room was all white and looked like marble. A marble cube with no exits in sight. The hairs on the back of my neck as I heard a struggling breath behind me. My body wouldn't move. I was frozen with fear.
"FACE ME!" The voice called out in that same contorted voice. I slowly turned.
I saw the chains first. Stuck in the wall like the wall was formed around the chains. I followed them across to where the met. There was a boy his clothes were tattered and he had a hole in his chest. Silver hair that hung over his face as his body hung in place supported by the chains. My heart was racing as I noticed the pitch black horns that emerged from his head.
He let out a pained laugh "You scared?" He lifted his head and my heart stopped as I saw my own face pasted on to this thing in front of me. It was me with only a few changes. His skin was icy and as pale as snow and his eyes were red and illuminated the mirror in front of me.
"We are going to die Yuki... What are you going to do about it? Don't you feel that blood leaving your body?" My chest suddenly felt like it was on fire.
"Are you really just going to let this happen?"
"What else can I do?" I managed to breathe out in response to him.
"ACCEPT ME!" He screamed out breaking a chain with his arm.
"Why should I?"
His expression changed as he became fragile His eyes watered before forming tears that dripped down his face. "I don't want to die. I can't leave her alone..."
I felt my eyes become heavy as tears poured from me. "I WON'T DIE!" I screamed before breaking the chains that bind me. My neck started to burn as it let out a purple light. I grabbed it and pulled. It was a chain it had been wrapped around my body from the inside from a single spot on my neck.
I felt free as the burning stopped suddenly I felt a weight on my chest hitting me over and over. It felt weak but I could still feel the weight.
"Die! Die! Die!"
I grabbed it and opened my eyes. It was that girl. Her eyes met mine. As I saw her face it I felt nothing as I squeezed harder and harder until there was a crack and there was no longer any resistance.
She let out a blood-curdling scream as her leg had just been obliterated. I stood up and grabbed her leg with my other hand and pulled them apart until I was covered in blood. She screamed again but it was like music to my ears. She fell back but I caught her by her hair. Tears streamed down her face.
"Please don't kill me?!" She begged as tears formed a puddle beneath her.
"Please don't kill me? I wonder how many times you have heard those words... Why should this be any different? Let me answer it for you. IT SHOULDN'T!" People who take from others will eventually have everything taken from them. And I will make sure it does.
My handed wrapped around her neck and crushed her vertebrae. Blood squirted from her neck as she let out a last cry as her body fell lifeless.
Blood ran down my face and fell into my mouth. It was delicious. I bit down on her neck and enjoyed my meal until her body was dried.
"Excuse me... Are you awake?" A voice came from outside.
