17 Chapter 17
I picked up the book from the floor and tried to open it. But nothing. Not even a shock. I tried to turn the page but it was stuck.
"Why won't this stupid thing open!"
Scarlet walked to the desk and picked up a black book.
"Hey what are you doing?"
"Just looking... Risa said you will need this... I will leave you too it" She handed me the book and left the room.
I inspected the book before reading the title. Magic Theory. I sat and opened the book.
An introduction to magic... Magic is an unpredictable form of energy manipulation. Although people may be born with affinity's that doesn't stop you from learning elemental magic although you will need to enchant either a spell or associated word. For elemental magic, you can find out if you have an affinity by placing your hand in front of you and picturing an element one by one until you find an affinity you have. Once you picture an affinity you have that element should form in your hand. The five elements are Fire, Water, Wind, Earth, and Ice.
This sounds easy enough. I stretched out my hand. First was fire right? I looked over to a lit candle and imagined the flame in my hand. I looked back towards my hand to see a flame dancing in the slight draft from under the door.
Um.... That was easier than I expected...
As for water, I imagined the water from my bath. And almost instantly the fire was gone and replaced by a pool of water that had formed in my hand. It was warm to the touch.
But how could I envision wind? Maybe like a blast of wind like earlier. I pointed my hand towards a stack of paper the water dropped onto the floor beneath me and the stack of paper flew up into the air and the table they were once on had flipped with a crash. Crap! Now I will need to clean that up.
The door opened slowly and a small voice emerged
"Hello?" And I girl stepped out wearing a maids outfit.
"Oh, Hi Illya I thought I was in trouble for a moment."
She stood for a minute and looked around. "What did you do! You wrecked the place!"
I was taken back for a moment. Was she mad? Well, I guess its understandable as a maid she would be expected to clean it up. She approached the table and tried to pick it up. Although she was trying her hardest I guess the table was just to heavy for her to lift. Wait I have an idea...
"Illya could you do something for me?"
"Huh? Sure."
"Ok, could you take a few steps back."
"Yeah.. but what are you going to do?" She did as I asked
I stretched out my arm. Wind should work, right? A draft formed in the room as the table floated into the air and stood upright before falling to the floor with a crash. Shit!!! I guess it still needs work?
"WOAH! Was that magic? Your so awesome Yuki!"
The door flew open and Mia barged in.
"What is going on!" She yelled and rested her hand on her sword to intimidate.
"Well... You see... I dropped the table?"
"You dropped the table... And just why would you need to pick up the table in the first place?"
"It. Was in my way..."
"Wouldn't it make more sense to walk around it?"
"Um... I guess so..."
Mia left without saying another word but she looked at me like I was a complete idiot. Maybe it would have been easier to say I was practicing magic... I really am stupid.
When I looked back towards Illya she had already stacked all the paper into a pile but couldn't lift it. I walked over and picked it up for her.
"You should of let me clean up. It was my mess after all."
"But it is my duty as a maid to clean."
"I can't argue with that."
The door was opened once again. But this time it was a maid she looked older than Illya but also quite similar in appearance. Long brown hair and blue eyes... Maybe they are related?
"Illya come at once. You have work to do." She spoke in a slightly angered tone.
Illya left the room and stood behind the maid. She spoke once again.
"I am sorry to have bothered you, Sir." She said while lowering her head.
"It's not a problem at all" This whole respect for nothing thing is exhausting.
The maid left the room and closed the door leaving me in silence. Maybe I should take a walk? I put the books back on the shelf and left.
I walked back to Scarlet's room and knocked. There was no answer so I opened the door. She was lying on her bed wrapped in the sheets. I stood for a few minutes to get a good look at her. She looked so cute. Ugh, I could look at her all day but I need some air I have been inside all day. I left and closed the door behind me.
This palace is huge it takes forever just to get outside. I decided to take a shortcut and jump out of the window. I landed in the courtyard where the guards were training. I gained the attention of them all as I landed.
"Hey, Yuki have you come to join us for practice?"
"Um No..."
"Oh, come on it will be fun." He threw a sword toward me.
"I will pass." I walked away and the sword hit the floor. The rest of the guards started to laugh.
"Don't make a fool out me!" He became enraged and unsheathed his sword.
Why won't this guy leave me alone already? I have already beat him twice but he still insists on fighting me. Hmm, actually this could be a good chance to practice magic.
He came running towards me and swung his sword. I dodged his attack and stuck out my arm. Hmm maybe wind? As I lowered my arm his sword split in half an hit the floor. That was hardly even fun.
"We're done." I turned and began to walk once again.
He began to yell out of anger and picked up another sword.
"General Wilhelm! Just what do you think you are doing?"
He stopped dead in his tracks. It was Mia. I should probably thank her. That guy is honestly so annoying. I carried on walking towards the gate.
"Hey stop!"
"What now?" I turned to see Mia running towards me.
"Where do you think you're going?"
"I'm going to take a walk?"
"Don't you have a job to do?"
"I do?"
"Yes, you're meant to be guarding Princess Aria."
Who's Aria... Oh yeah, that's Scarlet's name. I didn't really think of protecting her as a job though. Even if I am getting paid for it.
"She's sleeping so I can't exactly guard her..."
In the distance, I heard footsteps moving quickly from behind me.
"Yuki wait for me!" Scarlet was running towards me.
"Don't forget to do your job," Mia said before leaving.
"I thought you were sleeping?"
"I was but when I woke up I couldn't find you anywhere."
"Then how did you know I was here?"
"General Wilhelm told me you were heading this way..."
"I see..."
"So Yuki. Where are we going?"
"We?"
"Yes? I am coming too."
"Ok fine... I was only going for a walk."
"Why won't this stupid thing open!"
Scarlet walked to the desk and picked up a black book.
