141 Chase
Having been an Energy Refiner for more than ten years, even Janet who was observing the group from a distance was baffled at the sudden turn of events.
She had just exhaled in amazement how Aldrin and his crew took down a strong Extraordinary Rank rift monster. But then, something not within her or the group's expectations happened.
They should have kept their vigilance up after taking down the rift monster. However, Janet could agree that even someone like her would be hard-pressed to react to that kind of situation. It's even slightly amazing that Aldrin somehow managed to predict it. Just that, the distance between him and Irina was considerably far to traverse in an instant.
And as someone that had firmly stepped her foot on a higher stage than most Instructors or Energy Refiners in a small Secondary City, Janet was deeply ashamed to not have detected the other rift monster hiding in that black miasma.
She could've at least warned them if she did. But blaming herself also wasn't in order. It already happened. One of the trainees was swallowed by it with her status unknown.
"I've managed to record the black beast but there's another unidentified rift monster inside that black miasma. It couldn't be stronger than that black beast. Otherwise, it wouldn't need to run away after swallowing Irina. It should've no problem taking down Aldrin and his whole group…"
That was what she managed to pick up from its brief appearance.
In any case, Janet didn't waste time. After seeing that Aldrin and his group didn't fall into needless panic, she leaped off the tree branch she was standing on and started chasing the unidentified and seemingly elusive rift monster.
With her refined energy focusing on her feet, Janet's speed was extraordinary. Although it couldn't be on par with what Carlos showed, the fact that she's not using her Metadome provided her with more leeway to not be obstructed by the terrain.

When Janet made his move. Aldrin noticed it from the minimap. A lone figure sped through from their side.
Although he had no idea that it was his elder sister, he was aware that it was the Instructor watching over them.
From nineteen, Aldrin took ten of them to give chase while the remaining eight were ordered to stay at that place and prepare it as their camp for the night.
Of course, he had them thoroughly check the cave first and if there's no other sign of danger that could be the place for them to tide through the incoming nightfall.
If the dimensional creatures were already aggressive during the day, it's worse during the night. It's like a scene of hell where even the rift monsters were fighting each other for supremacy.
That's something he managed to witness through the eyes of his Dimensional Clones.
Speaking of Dimensional Clones, Aldrin ordered them to move near to that cave. That way, he could at least lean on them for additional support in case those they left behind got attacked.
"It disappeared from the sky. Are we even closing in on it?" While they traversed the uneven terrain sprawled in front of them, Clark once again voiced out his uneasiness. He's already shaking on his boots for Irina's survival. Despite being heartbroken by the girl, he's still as devoted as ever.
If only he's not too excessive with his infatuation, he might've gotten a chance in developing his image in the girl's mind.
"Yes. Just continue following me. We're going to save Irina." Aldrin answered him with the same calmness he showed earlier. However, that was a lie.
He's only following the general direction the Instructor was traversing. The black miasma or specifically the one inside it had once again disappeared from his map. If he could come up with an explanation for it… that black miasma might be something like a Spatial Pocket. Inside it was a separate dimension from the Drawyz Domain.
If Irina could hold out until they cornered it…
No. No matter how much he wanted to be optimistic about the girl's chances, he had to prepare for the worst-case scenario. He didn't even have a method on how to let the rift monster materialize.
That black miasma was simply invulnerable to physical attacks. Only Irina's Lockdisc managed to catch it and restrain it for a while.
As the terrain changed from a sea of trees to an open plain.
Aldrin and his group finally caught sight of the black miasma.
Not only that but the figure of the instructor speeding past could also be seen chasing after it.
However, unlike that lone figure, Aldrin's group was faced with a problem that effectively impeded their chase.
A herd of the same sheep-like dimensional creatures appeared scattered across the plain.
[Level 20 Felsheep (Difficulty: Hard)]
With gray furs and a slightly bigger build than a normal sheep, they didn't look that threatening. But Aldrin knew that the IDLE Database would never lie in indicating the appropriate measure of their strength.
Moreover, it's an identified rift monster. The others within his group recognized and understood their danger despite how harmless the sheep-like creatures looked.
"What do we do?! They noticed us!" One of the trainees blurted out the all-important question. It's clear in his voice the simple terror of being trampled by the herd. They all watched the stampede of Raging Bulls back then and even then, it was terrifying. What more, a herd of peak Ordinary Rank rift monsters?
Apart from Clark, Frederic and Caroline, there are only two other middle Stage 1 among them. And even if they're all middle Stage 1, that's still not enough. Unless Aldrin and his group could bombard the whole herd and send them to oblivion before they could approach, it's a hopeless endeavor.

When Irina regained consciousness. The first thing she noticed was the red [DISCONNECTED] screen replacing Aldrin's face. It's only a few seconds but she instantly felt the cold seeping through the interior of her Metadome. It's like she was sent to a frozen planet.
But it's dark. Too dark to see anything up ahead.
"W-where am I?" She asked herself, her chest beating quickly through nervousness. Her mind was clear, she was swallowed by the black miasma. Her head then ached and she became dizzy, making the NQL pick up the abnormality of the operator. It temporarily went to a safe mode, activating all its defensive modules.
Fortunately, nothing life-threatening happened except being transported to this dark and cold place.
Irina tried activating the night vision module to check her surroundings. However, nothing came up. It's still dark and cold.
"If… If I recall correctly, my screen became filled with a dark blue color. Is that the rift monster hidden inside the black miasma?" She could only take a guess but that still didn't ease up her anxiety.
She cautiously stood up. The sounds made by the engine of her Metadome and its mechanical whirls echoed across the whole place.
Since the sounds were bouncing too quickly, she inferred that she was inside a narrow room or if not room, the walls were nearby, enclosing her inside.
"… Why did it swallow me? And why am I still alive?"
Instead of questioning how she could get out, those two questions were the ones running in her mind… There must be a reason for it. Yet, she neither has a clue nor a hint that could lead her to the answer.
That's why Irina had no other choice but to try her best in understanding her current situation.
