138 Bonus chapter Against the Abyssal Wolf
A Level 29 Dimensional Creature. It's a level lower than Aldrin estimated. However, comparing it to the Ant Champion, he's fairly relaxed at the moment.
His current strength also exceeded that of a Stage 1 Energy Refiner, after all. Besides, he still had spare points to use to add another tier of the multiplier.
His only apprehension would be the excruciating pain that he might receive if ever he applied it to him as well.
Although named as an Abyssal Wolf, the creature was more like a dog or better yet, an unidentified animal. It was neither howling nor barking, instead, it was roaring, roaring like a rabid animal ready to take down every trespasser to its territory.
Its blackened fur truly felt like they were sharp spikes that could impale him. There were also its gigantic clawed paws that could make those little tremors as though it's a giant walking.
"Now this is a challenge. However, I know that I can only beat something like this with the help of IDLE Database. There's no going around that point." He sighed inwardly as he prepared to face it alone.
It would need a few minutes for Irina and the rest of their group to aid him so he prepared himself to go all out and duel it out.
Obviously, it's also a chance for him to gauge if this Dimensional Creature could be used by him to enact his plan.
"Letting myself be chased was the ideal scenario but it's also the one with the highest possibility of failure. Irina and the others will surely chase after me if that happens. It has to be more natural."
In his mind, he's thinking of something like the situation that calls for him to separate naturally from them while leaving behind the probability to reunite days after.
Although that's hard to accomplish if they're also being monitored by the Instructors that were closely following each group, Aldrin would wait for the right moment.
ROOOAAARRR!
A few seconds later, the Abyssal Wolf lunged at Aldrin, its mouth opened wide to gnaw at him.
"Right on time." He smirked. Following that, the Metadome he's operating quickly spun and from its hand, a small Essence Grenade went straight to the dimensional creature's mouth.
BOOM!
Aldrin jumped back to evade the explosion. However, he's aware that a single Essence Grenade wasn't enough to take down the beast.
As soon as he landed, his screen suddenly filled up with numerous black spikes hurtling to his position.
With his refined energy at the ready, The Metadome raised its arm and a circular barrier made using the mix of Aldrin's refined energy and the Dimensional Energy existing in the surrounding rose, blocking the spikes.
"Not enough!" He blurted as he jumped to the side once more at the same time as the energy barrier shattered into pieces.
The Metadome skillfully dodged the remaining spikes, however, the interior blinked red as a notification appeared on top.
[Left Arm has suffered significant damage. Connection temporarily disabled]
As soon as that happened, Aldrin, who's currently operating the Metadome through the NQL, grimaced, his left arm hung low as though it became paralyzed. Being synchronized by the specialized vehicle through neural links also had that kind of handicapped. Even though the pain receptor was minimized to not fully affect the operator, being disabled would also lead for that body part of the operator to be out of commission temporarily.
From the screen, he saw a sharp black spike embedded in the shoulder joint, preventing it from moving.
The limbs of a Metadome wouldn't normally be disabled unless damaged in its critical part. Unfortunately, the joint connecting it to the shoulder was the most critical part.
"As expected. It's a formidable one. But… as if I'd be taken down by a beast weaker than those Ant Champions. I endured the pain of getting the multiplier, I better put this to use!"
Before the smoke brought about by the explosion of the Essence Grenade dissipated, Aldrin forcefully pulled out the spike and circulated his refined energy to quickly restore the functionality of the left arm.
Wielding the gigantic sword again, Aldrin thought back to what Carlos imparted to him.
Yes. Even though he's not paying attention to that middle-aged man's lesson fully, he picked up the pointers he gave.
To connect his sword strikes.
Without using any Concept that could drain his refined energy for its activation, he rushed towards the smoke and slashed horizontally.
Along with the whistling of the wind, the smoke seemingly parted as the figure of the Abyssal Wolf appeared in front of its eyes.
The beast's eyes shone in a crimson light as it quickly twisted its body, its long tail lashing out, deflecting Aldrin's sword strike.
Feeling the numbing sensation from the force it delivered, Aldrin's eyebrows twitched as he regained control of his arm, sending a connected slash, diagonally upwards.
SLASH!
Just like Dreadgnaw and the Giant Harbear, the Abyssal Wolf was seemingly protected by a colorless Aura Veil but the sharp sword, assisted and boosted by Aldrin's strength cut through it, drawing a long gash wound to the Abyssal Wolf's body.
ROOOAAARRR!
The Abyssal Wolf roared again but it sounded pained. The next moment, Dimensional Energy seemingly churned around it as a vortex of black miasma suddenly engulfed it.
Before Aldrin's third connected sword strike threatened to add another wound, the black miasma moved further away, bringing the Abyssal Wolf along with it.
"What the?!" He exclaimed as he watched the Abyssal Wolf, bleeding on its side, reappeared a good fifty meters away from him.
"Is that a Concept or just a utilization of its Dimensional Energy?" He wondered.
ROOOAAARRR!
And another roar. This time the spikes that the beast shot at Aldrin regenerated with a more reddish gleam.
The black miasma didn't disappear as well but it seemingly became a rotating ball protecting its vicinity.
With its crimson eyes angrily focused on Aldrin, the sounds of the arriving Metadomes echoed and drowned out the beast's roar.
"Aldrin, we're here! Give us your order!" Irina's face flashed on his screen again, her eyes filled with unyielding determination to fulfill her role.
'I guess this isn't the time. This one is too weak for my plan…'
"Alright. I assume you watched my brief clash against it. It's fast. It has sharp projectiles and even that black miasma that could carry it away. For now, dish out range attacks to it!" Aldrin commanded and the voices of acknowledgment instantly rang in his ears followed by the sound of guns and missile launchers being fired.
