136 Exploration Task

"Team B, go into position. Team C, wait on my command. Team A and Team D, follow my lead. Attack!" Aldrin issued his commands through the opened communicator of his Metadome.

Leading the charge against a group of Dimensional Creatures, four teams consisting of a total of 20 trainee Energy Refiners, Aldrin utilized Shadow Steps, bringing himself quickly nearby the towering dimensional creature as he brandished the huge sword of his Metadome.

After being kept up to speed by the Instructors about the news outside the Dimension, most if not all trainees became eager to better themselves. The complaints that were about to rise were prevented.

"We have to be strong enough to defend against an Instance Rift!"

That and similar phrases began rising among them. They had their families outside. Although the officials from inside those walls estimated that the Lonewind City wouldn't be attacked and destroyed just as quickly as the neighboring Secondary City, they're still aware that it's only a matter of time.

And for these trainees, even if their resulting strength could only deal against one rift monster, that's enough as long as they could save a life.

"If their family's lives are on the line, even the selfish ones are spurred to action, huh? Well, I mean, they're still going to rely on them after the Training Camp. Most Energy Refiner cannot provide for themselves at the early stages. At least, those who had mediocre talent as well as not having any personal assets."

Aldrin concluded. He's worried about his family as well. However, as her special trainee, Janet informed him that his parents and his sister were already moving to the Central District. To the house the Refiner's Association granted to him as per signing the contract.

Although that abated some of his worries, like most of the trainees, he still felt that it was not enough. However, he also knew that at the moment, his strength was insufficient to stop an Instance-type Rift alone much less, conquer this current Dimension.

That's why, through Janet, he prepared a few lifelines for his family by converting some of his spare IDLE Points.

With his thoughts returning to what's in front of him, a deafening pained roar of the dimensional creature echoed in their surroundings. Compared to the trainees that he's commanding, he possessed the same strength as a Stage 2 Energy Refiner thanks to the IDLE Database's multiplier. He still hadn't been fully accustomed to it yet but it was enough to deal significant damage to the towering creature.

After pulling back his sword from the creature's shoulder, Aldrin moved to the side to reposition himself and also, to watch over his subordinates at this segment of the Training Camp.

"It's my turn!" Irina's Metadome appeared next, her weapons aimed at the dimensional creature that's about to fall just from Aldrin's attack. Seeing that Aldrin managed to deal that much damage to the creature, Irina confidently swung her Metadome's dual swords, adding another gashing wound for the beast.

Once she also repositioned to the side for their next attack, more Metadomes from their team and the other one Aldrin ordered to follow launched their attacks against the poor creature.

Moments later, after receiving a total of eight attacks and without being able to launch a counterattack, Aldrin's was met with the notification of added IDLE Points, confirming its death.

[Level 23 Giant Harbear has been killed]

[IDLE Points +450]

It's a Dimensional Creature that's at the same level as the Dreadgnaw. Although it's slower, it's a titan compared to it. If Aldrin didn't initiate the battle and dealt that much damage in one attack, it's more than likely that they'd be in a difficult fight against it.

"Amazing! We took it down!" Irina's cheerful voice rang out, releasing the tension in everyone hearing it. "This is as strong as the Dreadgnaw, right?"

"If it's this easy then we'll be able to finish our Exploration Task easily," Clark added. His voice filled with confidence as though his contribution was the highest.

"Don't be complacent. We managed to ambush this one but that might not be true for our next target. Remember, we're going to an unexplored area." Aldrin reminded them.

Caroline, Frederic and the ones from the other team all nodded but it's clear that they're also elated about their success here.

The content of the next segment of their Training Camp was simple. The sixty trainees from the Lonewind City were divided into three. For easier distribution, they let the original teams stay together before shuffling them, dividing the three big groups consisting of four teams.

Each team was given a set objective. Explore and bring back proof such photographs taken by their Metadome and if they could bring back bodies of dimensional creatures they killed as well as herbs or fruits that they discovered, it would add more points.

Obviously, they're not being sent to the more dangerous unexplored territories but to the ones nearby their Base Camp. In other words, further east, beyond the path that was created by the previous trainees.

Aldrin was unanimously voted to be the leader. From what he showed as the leader of the camp and his feat of driving away the Dreadgnaw and green-spotted hyenas, it would be more unusual if he didn't take the position.

"We have to get moving. First, we need to find a place to camp." He declared before opening the private communication to the leaders of Team B and C. "Regroup with us, I'm sorry but we somehow defeated the rift monster easier than expected."

"As expected of Camp Leader." The two answered in chorus before acknowledging his order.

A few minutes later, twenty Metadomes once again started to move further east from the location of their Training Camp.

Since it's bonus points if they brought back proof of kill and being a delicacy according to the information written about the creature, they chopped up and stored parts of the Giant Harbear.

Compared to the others, Aldrin having the IDLE Database made it convenient for him, he had a live minimap on his screen and it even noted if there were nearby dimensional creatures. That allowed them to smoothly traverse the unexplored territory.

However, that didn't mean they weren't attacked. Sometimes they would be faced with unavoidable encounters.

Fortunately, through his lead and the group's ability to accurately respond to his orders, they passed those encounters without receiving that much damage.

"Hmm. Although not as smooth as when I'm ordering my Dimensional Clones, they're still pulling through. Moreover, with different abilities that I can utilize, it's actually a lot easier to adjust." He muttered to himself.

While remaining vigilant to his surroundings, Aldrin also paid attention to his Dimensional Clones that were exploring north of them.

"The further they get to the center of this Dimension, the stronger the dimensional creatures. That seemed to be the case. And the Fragment Core was located at the center… If I have the ability, I really want to take it but at the moment, I'm locked not only in this Training Camp but also the worry over what's happening outside…"

Clearly, he had to set his priorities straight… He's already on his way to reaching higher stages as an Energy Refiner but problems just kept on popping up on his path. If he took a misstep then everything he's preparing would just crumble to dust.

If he wants more power, he has to forego his worries and continue progressing in this Dimension.

If he wants to do his moral obligation, he has to leave as soon as they're allowed to keep his family safe.

Surely, as someone who was just an ordinary shut-in a month ago, it's a hard choice.

"In three days, I have to make a choice." Ending his thoughts on that, he pried his eyes open and signaled for his group to stop. In front of him, the flat ground stopped and he found himself at the edge of a not-so-tall cliff.

Below he could spy a downstream river from the north. It continued to flow inside a cave that would surely lead to another area south of the dimension. Apart from that, unfamiliar plants seemingly grew on its banks

"What's wrong?" Like always, it's Irina who would first talk to him and confirm his thoughts. Their 'relationship' wasn't a secret so in their group, she's like the second-in-command. Besides, she's also a strong fighter, only inferior to both Aldrin and Frederic.

"Well, we're looking for a place to camp and it's about to get dark. The place is ideal but…" He explained as he pointed down below.

Irina's eyes followed where he was pointing and muttered in a low voice,

"I see… Aldrin, we can be cautious but it's your call… Do you think it's dangerous?"

With that question, Aldrin looked at the minimap, there was only one red dot nearby and it was inside the cave. If the creature hiding in there was stronger than Dreadgnaw or the Giant Harbear, although Aldrin wouldn't necessarily be in danger, it's the members of his group who would be at risk…

"I don't know. Let me go first. I'll check it out using my Shadow Clones."

"Huh? Are you going alone?"

"Yes. You take command of me. I'll open our private communication, if I tell you to run and go back, then go..."

"Wait, you can't do that. We're a group!"

"It's my order as your leader, let me gauge the danger first. If there's nothing to worry about then I'll call on you."

"That…" Clearly Irina was reluctant to let him go, however, the Aldrin that was intently looking at Irina even through the screen looked determined. The bearing of a selfless leader emanated from him.

However, in Aldrin's mind, he's cooking up another plan. He couldn't say it out loud, of course. Because it's a selfish plan.

To get away from the group and move alone, together with his Dimensional Clones…
