133 Refining Speed

Perhaps it was because of their experience or just the concentration of Dimensional Energy was thicker in that Dimension, not only Irina but Frederic, Clark and even Caroline all showed up as a middle Stage 1.

Although the gap between early and middle Stage 1 wasn't that huge, the quality of their refined energy and the activation of their Concept would be a lot smoother. Moreover, they could accommodate another Concept again.

Aldrin believed that he could also accommodate another Concept after reaching late Stage 1 but he's putting it off for the moment since he couldn't even show it all off.

As for the other trainees, they're also progressing steadily. If nothing else happened, most if not all, would reach middle Stage 1.

That's kinda slow if compared to Aldrin or the two late Stage 1 Energy Refiners from the other cities but that's actually considered average among the majority.

Everyone had different energy refining speeds and it didn't depend on one's Energy Quintessence. It's just pure talent. Someone hailing from a couple of Energy Refiner would have a chance to be born with higher talent than his or her parents.

However, that's not totally accurate since there were also children hailing from Energy Refiners failing to awaken such as Aldrin's friend, Bert.

There were also Energy Refiners that were awakening naturally possessing higher talent in refining Dimensional Energy such as Aldrin's 'girl'friend, Renissa.

Even a millennium of study couldn't properly produce an accurate result as to how one could possess higher talent in it. Some say it's all about luck while others, especially those who were trying to preserve their Energy Refiner Lineage, were clinging onto an unscientific belief that Energy Refiner offspring would also become an Energy Refiner.

On another note, there were also types of elixirs and medical procedures that could increase one's energy refining speed. The former was fairly accessible to the market at a rather high price. Moreover, it's only a temporary increase. Much like a booster of sorts. While the latter was actually being treated as a myth. It could only be found on historical records of some planets. However, even the information about its origin was pulled out of the public shelves and even the databases accessible by Energy Refiners.

"But this book says otherwise," Aldrin muttered as he opened his eyes, pausing his thoughts at flipping the pages of a book he bought off the Idle Shopping and had been downloaded in his mind.

It's titled 'Energy Refining 101'.

Although the title was kind of dumb, it's worth 10,000 IDLE Points. He had long figured out that the content of a book scaled with its price. This means the lower-priced ones were filled with low-level information while those expensive ones contained important information that would either be unavailable to access normally or locked away from anyone's eyes.

Having tried refining Dimensional Energy manually like any other Energy Refiners and finding out that he's nowhere near the level of the others in his batch, Aldrin browsed that section of Idle Shopping once the night arrived once more and he resigned to his room to wait for midnight.

After filtering the books listed in the Book Section of Idle Shopping, the one that stood out to him was the book, Energy Refining 101.

Although it's mostly filled with common knowledge with almost 90% of its content, Aldrin chanced upon something that was considered a myth.

"The refining speed of an Energy Refiner depends on one's Energy Channels. Most human's Energy Channels should have an opening where Dimensional Energy can easily flow inside the body. However, after migrating and through the passage of time, the knowledge about Energy Channels or in ancient terms, Meridians have been lost. In the present day, it has degraded and is believed to be only possessed by Energy Refiners. But the truth of the matter is it exists in every human being, Energy Refiner or not…" Aldrin closed his eyes again to continue reading.

Although it was mentioned that refining speed directly correlates to one's Energy Channels, it's still incomplete information. Moreover, the only method stated in that book is about the unblocking of Energy Channels' entrances. However, there's no instruction on how to do that.

The most important point that Aldrin gleaned from it was that, at every unblocked channel, one's refining speed experienced a change.

"So that means those who have higher energy refining speed have more unblocked Energy Channels. By letting the Dimensional Energy seep through it instead of directly sending them to the Energy Quintessence, its refining process will speed up. Because I have fewer unblocked Energy Channels, my refining speed is like at a snail's pace. The Dimensional Energy provided by the IDLE Database must've been special as they're being converted almost instantly, creating shortcuts for me."

Having been enlightened with that, Aldrin didn't know whether to sigh in relief or frustration.

He then opened the Idle Shopping again and filtered the books to highlight 'Energy Channels' and 'Unblock'.

The IDLE Database didn't fail him. However, Aldrin gawked at the number of results that appeared in front of him as well as the number of zeroes in its prize.

"That's expensive, alright. It's 1000 times more expensive than the one that hinted about it." He clicked his tongue and calculated in his mind, "But considering my current incoming… it's not out of reach. Still, it's too expensive that at the moment, I don't want to think about it yet."

The value of a single IDLE Point had already deflated to the point that it's something he wouldn't even be satisfied with looking at. Unlike the first time he acquired the IDLE Database where every point counts, in just a month, it's now a drop in the ocean.

Nonetheless, Aldrin always believed that the mysterious program wouldn't be with him forever, to prepare himself for that, the 10-million-point book was a necessity.

"That's that but there are more pressing concerns for tomorrow. We finished the construction of everything and thanks to that, we have a day off. I thought of coming with my Dimensional Clones to hunt and investigate but… it's most likely impossible with the eyes of the Instructors around."

Aldrin lamented as he brought out the Idle Adventure interface and checked on the status of his clones.

They got wiped out once during the day. And that's because the exhaustion of energy finally caught on to them. Obviously, they're not living beings that could replenish their energy. Once they're out, they'd disappear like his Summoned Creatures who used up their Essences.

Fortunately for him, his phone vibrated intensely to notify him or else the Buzzhare that he bought for 40,000 IDLE Points would become junk against the Dimensional Creatures.

"Well, I'm now aware that they have their batteries. I just have to watch out for it. But tomorrow, I guess I'll go with—"

Aldrin was interrupted by a knock on his door. And moments later, the familiar voice rang out.

"Aldrin, open up."

There's only one who would visit him deep in the night so he immediately jumped down his bed and let the woman enter.

"What is it this time, elder sister?" Aldrin asked Janet after the woman settled down on his bed just like the other times.

That's right. In spite of Irina's clinginess during the day, that girl never disturbed him at night even if they were only a room apart. Aldrin was aware of the reason. She's diligently refining energy inside her room and perhaps, she's thinking that Aldrin was doing the same. That's a standard of every Energy Refiner, after all, to set aside a time for it.

"Nothing."

"Lies. You won't be here if it's nothing. Either there's something on your mind or something happened. You're the one with more access to information and you believe I know something that you don't… are you here for that?"

"Stop guessing and behave. I only came to check on you. I thought you'll be panicking by now… But this, why do I see calmness in you?"

'Obviously, I haven't seen something that will make me panic yet.' Aldrin thought to himself but refrained from blurting that out.

He checked out Janet and noticed that she looked worn out. Totally different from the Janet he first met at the reception of the Refiner's Association.

"We're behind these walls and we have you and the Instructors watching over us. There's no reason for me to panic. Besides, the same as yesterday, nothing major happened today." Aldrin then walked over, sat down next to her and spoke out what's on his mind, "Aren't you the one being mentally exhausted over the things in this Dimension, elder sister? Did something happen?"

Upon hearing his question, Aldrin noticed the sudden stiffness Janet exhibited. 'I hit the bullseye, huh? Will she tell me about it or she's just here to relieve mental stress?"
